On-chip scaling continues to pose significant technological and design challenges. Nonetheless, the key obstacle in on-chip scaling is the high fabrication cost of the state-of-The-Art technology nodes. An opportunity exists however, to continue scaling at the system level. Silicon interconnect fabric (Si-IF) is a platform that aims to replace both the package and printed circuit board to enable heterogeneous integration and high inter-chip performance. Bare dies are attached directly to the Si-IF at fine vertical interconnect pitch (2 to 10 um) and small inter-die spacing (100 um). The Si-IF is a singlehierarchy integration construct that supports dies of any process, technology, and dimensions. In addition to development of the fabrication and integration processes, system-level challenges need to be addressed to enable integration of heterogeneous systems on the Si-IF. Communication is a fundamental challenge on large Si-IF platforms (up to 300 mm diameter wafers). Different technological and design approaches for global and semi-global communication are discussed in this paper. The area overhead associated with global communication on the Si-IF is determined. © 2019 Association for Computing Machinery.

This paper investigates multidimensional block turbo codes (BTCs) with trellis-based decoding. Reed-Muller (RM) codes are used as the component codes. The suboptimal decoding algorithm: MAX-log-MAP with a correction term is used for iterative decoding of multidimensional BTCs. This decoding method provides good tradeoff between performance and complexity. Three-dimensional BTCs are used in AWGN channel with BPSK and QPSK modulation. Multidimensional BTCs allow a large number of block sizes and coding rates to meet many practical applications. The fixed point implementation of these codes is also presented. The simulation results show that the coding gain loss with 4-bit quantization for received sequence is negligible.

Since power and bandwidth are limited resources in modern digital communications systems, the subject of this paper is the design of nonbinary circular recursive systematic convolutional (CRSC) turbo codes combined with high level modulation, such as 8PSK modulation. It includes how to choose and/or design the components in a turbo encoder, as well as the design of the interleaver and the puncturer, to get the best possible performance with simplified Max-Log-MAP algorithm and higher transmission rate. Several combination schemes of coding and modulation, and their complexity are discussed. A comprehensive study over AWGN channel is carried out to show the performance of the proposed coding schemes and their potential as an alternative for more effective and efficient transmission of data via satellites without increasing the required bandwidth.

We have investigated an extended non-binary turbo-coding scheme consisting of 8-ary (triple-binary) codes combined with 8PSK modulation in order to increase the bandwidth efficiency which is limited by QPSK modulation and the puncturing specified in DVB-RCS standard. The novel triple-binary code still has the features of circular recursive systematic convolutional(CRSC) codes, which avoid the degradation of the spectral efficiency. The influence of various parameters, such as the different frame sizes and the different permutations (interleaving), are also discussed. The symbol-by-symbol Max-Log-MAP algorithm is derived for this coding scheme. A comprehensive study over AWGN channel is carried out to show the good performance of the proposed coding scheme. © 2002 IEEE.

The University of Massachusetts collected C- and Ku-band ocean backscatter measurements at 21.0/spl deg/, 31.0/spl deg/, 41.5/spl deg/ and 52.0/spl deg/ incidence, using a C-band and a Ku-band conical scanning airborne scatterometer. These high spatial resolution backscatter measurements differ significantly, for low-wind cases, from the predicted responses of the CMOD4 and SASS-II model functions. The nulls in the azimuthal backscatter response tend to decrease at a much faster rate than predicted as the winds decrease below 5 m s/sup -1/, the measured backscatter response does not follow a power-law relationship with wind speed nor with wind stress, and a cutoff wind speed, below which the backscatter drops to immeasurable quantities, is present. These characteristics are predicted by the Donelan and Pierson (1987) model, and comparing the measured results with this model shows good agreement. However, when the spatial resolution of the measurements are degraded to an area equivalent to that of satellite-based measurements, the deep nulls and fast fall off rate are no longer present. Such effects may bias the backscatter measurements from satellite-based platforms towards the higher winds within the footprint, and thus overestimate the wind speed.

In Sayyarrdsari, Homaifar, and Hogans (1993), a hybrid implementation of fuzzy and conventional PID controller was introduced and its application to a 2 degree of freedom robot manipulator arm was examined. A theoretical justification for that approach, based on the fact that “fuzzy systems are universal approximators” is presented in this paper.

This paper presents the description and analysis of a high power GTO current source power converter (CSC) supply. The proposed power supply provides input waveforms that are nearly sinusoidal, fast control of the DC load current, and feedforward unity power factor correction for different load conditions. In order to achieve these task, the programmed PWM patterns with selective harmonic elimination (SHE) of lower order harmonics in the source line currents are employed. Introduction of low switching frequency PWM gating patterns suitable for high power GTO switches and system analysis to get the unity power factor are discussed in detail. A systematic design procedure for the GTO-CSC and selection of SHE-PWM patterns for a variable load is presented. Finally, the computer simulation results are presented to verify the theoretical analysis.< >
