Ultrasound focusing in three-dimensional(3 D)space is of crucial and enduring significance in a variety of biomedical and industrial *** ultrasound focusing based on active phase array or passive geometry of bulky size is unable to realize the 3 D arbitrary focusing with subwavelength *** metamaterial of complex deep-subwavelength microstructure has facilitated the advanced airborne-sound-focusing but is inevitably not applicable for underwater ultrasound,restricted by the law between the multi-modes coupling/thermal viscosity and the feature size of the ***,we aim to circumvent the restriction by increasing the feature size of the metamaterial while keeping the compact overall geometry,and realize the robust subwavelength ultrasound focusing with the sparse metalens of the wavelength-scale *** theoretically propose and demonstrate numerically and experimentally the broadband arbitrary ultrasound focusing in 3 D *** axial and off-axis ultrasound focusing with the subwavelength resolution(FWHM<0.58λ)are achieved by the spatially sparse and compact metalens within one-octave *** advantages of 3 D freewheeling focusing,subwavelength resolution,spatial sparsity,geometric simplicity,and broadband,the sparse metalens would offer more initiatives to advanced researches in ultrasound focusing and empower applications such as precise biomedical imaging and therapy,nondestructive evaluation,integrated and multiplexed ultrasound devices.

Graph states play an important role in quantum information theory through their connection to measurement-based computing and error correction. Prior work revealed elegant connections between the graph structure of these states and their multipartite entanglement. We continue this line of investigation by identifying additional entanglement properties for certain types of graph states. From the perspective of tensor theory, we tighten both upper and lower bounds on the tensor rank of odd ring states (|R2n+1〉) to read 2n+1≤rank(|R2n+1〉)≤3×2n−1. Next we show that several multipartite extensions of bipartite entanglement measures are dichotomous for graph states based on the connectivity of the corresponding graph. Finally, we give a simple graph rule for computing the n-tangle τn.

Microelectromechanical systems(MEMS)gyroscopes are widely used,e.g.,in modern automotive and consumer applications,and require signal stability and accuracy in rather harsh environmental *** many use cases,device reliability must be guaranteed under large external loads at high *** sensitivity of the sensor to such external loads depends strongly on the damping,or rather quality factor,of the high-frequency mechanical modes of the *** this paper,we investigate the influence of thermoelastic damping on several high-frequency modes by comparing finite element simulations with measurements of the quality factor in an application-relevant temperature *** measure the quality factors over different temperatures in vacuum,to extract the relevant thermoelastic material parameters of the polycrystalline MEMS *** simulation results show a good agreement with the measured quantities,therefore proving the applicability of our method for predictive purposes in the MEMS design ***,we are able to uniquely identify the thermoelastic effects and show their significance for the damping of the high-frequency modes of an industrial MEMS *** approach is generic and therefore easily applicable to any mechanical structure with many possible applications in nano-and micromechanical systems.
