The swift proliferation of multimodal rumors on social media, particularly those with manipulated images and complex intermodal interactions, significantly challenges current detection methods. In response, we utilize statistical image features, including mean and variance, to capture spatial attributes effectively and improve the detection of image-tampered tweets. To tackle complex intermodal correlations, we introduce a contrastive learning approach that aligns features across modalities efficiently. Additionally, we introduce a cross-attention fusion module (CAFM) that enhances the integration of image and text modalities, thereby improving multimodal rumor detection performance. In conclusion, we propose the cross-attention fusion network (ConCAFN), leveraging contrastive learning for robust multimodal rumor detection. Extensive experiments on two real-world datasets confirm the model’s enhanced capability to detect multimodal rumors accurately, demonstrating our methods’ effectiveness. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

In cognitive radio networks(CoR),the performance of cooperative spectrum sensing is improved by reducing the overall error rate or maximizing the detection *** optimization methods are usually used to optimize the number of user-chosen for cooperation and the threshold ***,these methods do not take into account the effect of sample size and its effect on improving CoR *** general,a large sample size results in more reliable detection,but takes longer sensing time and increases ***,the locally sensed sample size is an optimization ***,optimizing the local sample size for each cognitive user helps to improve CoR *** this study,two new methods are proposed to find the optimum sample size to achieve objective-based improved(single/double)threshold energy detection,these methods are the optimum sample size N^(*)and neural networks(NN)*** the evaluation,it was found that the proposed methods outperform the traditional sample size selection in terms of the total error rate,detection probability,and throughput.

Nowadays, numerous devices are utilizing the IoT world, connecting and providing access to data and sensor measurements in vast networks of interconnected objects and devices. Considering the great communication distances that need to be covered occasionally, the LoRaWAN network was proposed as it employs Low Power (LP) and Long Range (LoRa) protocols that reduce device energy consumption while maximizing communication range. A gateway to the cloud authenticates LoRaWAN IoT devices before data transmission. This procedure begins with an unencrypted Join Request. A Join Request includes, among others, a Message Integrity Code (MIC), which is the result of encrypting the unencrypted contents of the message using an AppKey that is securely stored both in the cloud and the IoT device. However, malicious actors acting as Man-In-the-Middle (MITM) can interfere in the communication channel, reverse engineer the MIC value, and derive the AppKey. They can then initiate a Join Request that is misinterpreted as coming from a legitimate device and gain access to the communication channel. This paper introduces a novel approach that focuses on the continuous regeneration of the AppKey, necessitating frequent re-joining and re-authentication of IoT devices within the network. The suggested method, which can be added as an extra layer of security in LoRaWAN networks, uses a key rolling technique similar to the one used in automobile central locking systems, and is developed as an optimised and scalable microservice for various LoRaWAN installations and versions. Through the evaluation process, significant findings emerged, demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed security solution in mitigating replay attacks. The system successfully prevented the server from getting flooded by malicious packets, distinguishing it from a system lacking the proposed mechanism. This study addresses the formidable challenges encountered in automated brain tumor segmentation, including the complexities of irregular shapes, ambiguous boundaries, and intensity variations across MRI modalities. Manual segmentation, plagued by subjectivity and time constraints, further exacerbates the problem. To address these issues, we propose a modified U-Net architecture with an integrated attention gate. The proposed model demonstrates high performance, with notable Dice Similarity Coefficient (DSC) and Jaccard Index (JI) values across various tumor classes, consistently exceeding 0.93 and 0.87, respectively. Incorporating Contrast-Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization and Histogram Equalization improves segmentation accuracy, particularly in cases of Meningioma. Comparative analyses against established models reveal a DSC of 0.9521 and a JI of 0.9093, underscoring the superiority of our method. Validation in the BraTS 2021 dataset underscores the robustness of the method, achieving high DSC and JI scores in four MRI modalities, with the T2 modality demonstrating the highest performance (DSC: 0.9216, JI: 0.8556). While acknowledging these achievements, we recognize challenges related to dataset specificity and computational intensity associated with the attention gate. Future research efforts should address these issues to improve the generalizability and applicability of the method in real-world scenarios. In addition to presenting a novel automated brain tumor segmentation method, this study contributes comprehensive result values and comparative analyses with previous research, providing valuable insights into the evolving landscape of medical image analysis. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2025.

The conventional approach to manual inspection can be described by its considerable time and labor demands and the unavoidable occurrence of human error when faced with the inspection of a large number of products. Therefore, the application of an automated visual inspection system is frequently employed. The camera(s) can easily capture visual features for automatic visual inspection. However, it is essential to note that there are limitations when using this method to estimate the size-based grading system. The volume measurement is an essential feature in the field of automatic image analysis for fruit and vegetable grading, specifically guava. In this study, we propose a novel image analysis approach that utilizes a dual-view camera system to enhance the accuracy of volume approximation, particularly in scenarios involving non-perfect spherical objects. Hence, this research presents the training process of a comprehensive model for estimating the volume of objects with irregular shapes, named AVIG (Automatic Visual Inspection for Grading). The model utilizes the ellipsoid approximation technique, a dual-view camera, and XGBoost algorithm. The results from the accuracy comparison demonstrate that XGBoost shows the highest degree of accuracy, specifically 86%, thereby outperforming the performance of other algorithms. The comprehensive experiment conducted in this study has shown that the proposed architecture, AVIG, exhibits superior performance compared to previous research in terms of automatic evaluation of moving objects. © 2023 ACM.

Since CCTV technology was widely introduced as a video surveillance system, it has become very popular due to increased security concerns. However, detecting suspicious behavior is still done manually by humans, which is inefficient in terms of accuracy and manpower (prone to distraction and fatigue). Many studies use the entire frame of a video to recognize human action, whereas in this study first localize the area of object movement using the unsupervised inflated 3D (I3D) network which produces several frames that have been determined as the region of interest (ROI) from the total frames in the video. Then the collection of ROI frames is generated into a video which will then be classified to recognize human action through the Temporal Segment Networks (TSN). For efficiency purposes, the proposed pipeline can be run separately in the edge (for localization), and cloud environment (for recognition), respectively. The results show that there are 54 classes of ROI video data sets that have an average human action recognition prediction similarity rate above 84.6% which is the average of the prediction similarity rate of the entire ROI video data. In terms of prediction accuracy, 37 classes of data (36.63%) are better than the original class, including 25 classes of data (24.75%) above the threshold, and the processing speed of classification with ROI video data is on average 5 times faster than full-frame video data. © 2023 IEEE.

COTS HW and SW components become crucial for advancing AI in space applications. The CAIRS21 ESA project considers Coral TPU as a candidate AI co-processor in avionics and examines its suitability in terms of performance, programmability/productivity, and radiation tolerance. The current paper focuses on our custom methodology for evaluating TPU, including TID and SEE effects. We assume representative AI benchmarks and irradiation profiles for LEO missions. We define a series of actions and measurements to derive thorough conclusions while avoiding increased time/budget procedures. Additionally, the paper summarizes key findings and a preliminary analysis of results from actual tests. Overall, TPU shows significant benefits when executing embedded AI, as well as promising Krad(Si) and SEE cross-section values. © 2023 ESA.

The goal of this study is to develop and test an automated integrated speech analysis system for detecting mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia in spontaneous free speech. Ensemble learning integrates many learners to achieve better performance, however, it can increase the complexity dramatically. Redundant learners should be pruned to reduce ensemble complexity while allowing for increased accuracy. There are two common ways to achieve this, which include selecting the optimal training space and the optimal trained learners. This study contributes to reducing redundant learners by selecting the optimal training space using annealing-based optimization. The optimal training space was defined by 1) measuring the similarity between training spaces (clusters) and 2) searching for the best set of training spaces by minimizing the similarity between the selected training spaces. The proposed method was tested on 10 datasets from the UCI repository and compared to five state-of-The-Art random subspace methods. The results showed that the proposed method could reduce the size of the ensemble while significantly increasing its accuracy. © 2023 IEEE.
