In recent years, there has been a concerted effort in both industry and research sectors to innovate new approaches to DevOps. The primary aim is to facilitate developers in transitioning their applications to Cloud or Edge platforms utilizing Docker or Kubernetes. This paper presents a tool called Converter, designed to interpret a TOSCA extension called CEAML and convert the descriptions into Kubernetes or Kubevirt definition files. Converter is available as a Python package and is recommended for use by orchestrators as an auxiliary tool for implementing CEAML. © 2024, CC BY.

Edge computing emerges as a promising paradigm for managing and processing the immense data volumes generated by Internet of Things (IoT) devices. By moving data and computation closer to the client/devices, edge computing facilitates latency- and bandwidth-sensitive applications that would not be feasible through cloud and remote processing alone. Despite recent advancements, concerns persist regarding the requirements of cloud/edge-based applications. A distributed edge storage solution becomes indispensable to ensure data proximity, mitigate network congestion, and accommodate changing demands. Nevertheless, implementing an efficient edge-enabled storage system poses numerous challenges due to the distributed and heterogeneous nature of the edge, as well as its constrained resource capabilities. To this end, this paper presents an efficient cloud/edge storage framework with consideration on performance (QoS), latency reduction, and energy efficiency. The evaluations demonstrate significant improvements by reducing data operation execution time, enhancing performance, alleviating network infrastructure strain, and optimizing energy efficiency.

A New Approach for Evaluating the Performance of Distributed Latency-Sensitive Services

Conventional latency metrics are formulated based on a broad definition of traditional monolithic services, and hence lack the capacity to address the complexities inherent in modern services and distributed computing paradigms. Consequently, their effectiveness in identifying areas for improvement is restricted, falling short of providing a comprehensive evaluation of service performance within the context of contemporary services and computing paradigms. More specifically, these metrics do not offer insights into two critical aspects of service performance: the frequency of latency surpassing specified Service Level Agreement (SLA) thresholds and the time required for latency to return to an acceptable level once the threshold is exceeded. This limitation is quite significant in the frame of contemporary latency-sensitive services, and especially immersive services that require deterministic low latency that behaves in a consistent manner. Towards addressing this limitation, the authors of this work propose 5 novel latency metrics that when leveraged alongside the conventional latency metrics manage to provide advanced insights that can be potentially used to improve service performance. The validity and usefulness of the proposed metrics in the frame of providing advanced insights into service performance is evaluated using a large-scale experiment. © 2024, CC BY.

Wireless ad hoc network [WANET] systems are creating multihop communication structure between the mobiles to transfer the data groups. The remarkable qualities of remote frameworks cause the correspondence to interface among the conflicting mobiles. To manage high convey ability and biological blocks, most physical directing shows will not believe the stable associations during pack communication, which prompts the elevated delay and bundle reducing in the master-mind. The proposed research work recommends a way perception support physical steering convention that specifies POPR for WANET. The anticipated guiding show merges the relative partition, course and mid-expand forwarder center point with transfer thickness to propel data toward the objective in order to recover physical sending among the connection point. Edge computing presents a promising paradigm for the management and processing of the vast volumes of data generated by Internet of Things (IoT) devices. By merging cloud services with decentralized processing at the edge of the network, edge computing optimizes resource utilization while mitigating communication overhead and data transfer delays. Despite advancements, there are issues regarding cloud/edge-based application requirements. A distributed edge storage solution is crucial, ensuring data proximity, minimizing network congestion, and adapting to changing demands. Nevertheless, implementing or selecting an efficient edge-enabled storage system presents numerous challenges due to the distributed and heterogeneous nature of the edge, as well as its limited resource capabilities. Hence, it is essential for the research community to actively contribute towards clarifying the objectives and delineating the strengths and weaknesses of different storage solutions. This work presents an overview and performance analysis of three storage solutions in the edge computing context, namely MinIO, IPFS, and BigchainDB. The evaluation considers a set of Quality of Service (QoS) and resource utilization metrics. The systems are deployed on a cluster of four Raspberry Pis, which function as a network of edge devices. The results demonstrate the superiority of IPFS and provide insights into the performance of the evaluated storage systems for edge deployments.

5G communication systems provide an end-to-end wireless connection to billions of users and devices across the globe. The quality of signals received during radio communication is notably influenced by the behavior of the radio propagation channel. A major parameter used in characterizing this channel is the Path Loss Exponent (PLE). Several works that have estimated and analyzed the PLE mostly considered the effect of distance and carrier frequency. However, the effect of base station antenna height and channel bandwidth on the PLE for 5G networks have not been adequately considered. To address this, the impact of antenna height of base station and channel bandwidth on the PLE within the 5G Frequency Range 1 (FR1) frequencies was investigated in this study, specifically at 800, 3500, and 5900 MHz. The licensed EDX Signal Pro software® with Cirrus high resolution global terrain and clutter data base was utilized to model, simulate and analyze the PLE for Kano City, Nigeria. Results showed that for the tested frequencies, an increase in either base station height or channel bandwidth leads to a significant reduction in the PLE. This study can be utilized by network planning engineers and the wireless research community to further improve network implementation and optimization toward understanding the behavior of signal propagation in 5G networks and beyond. © 2023 IEEE.

Group testing is a well-studied approach for identifying defective items among a large amount of items by conducting a relatively small number of tests on pools of items. In this paper, we propose a novel method for generating quasi-random designs with constant pool sizes for noiseless non-adaptive group testing. Our approach incorporates insights from combinatorial properties to optimize the distribution of Hamming distances in pooling designs. Simulations with established practical decoding algorithms show that our quasi-random designs outperform existing random and quasi-random methods in both identification accuracy and stability. These improved designs have the potential to provide significant benefits for real-world applications of group testing, such as PCR testing in large populations and network security.

Given the vast amount of unstructured financial text data available today, there is a high demand for reliable, quality annotations to facilitate robust model development. However, traditional methods can often be expensive and time-inefficient. In this study, we investigate annotations for emotion, sentiment, and cognitive dissonance generated by the large language models (LLMs), GPT-3.5 and GPT-4, for quarterly earnings conference calls and compare them against human annotations obtained via traditional methods. We also investigate different prompt engineering choices on LLM annotation quality, experimenting with 4 styles of prompts centered around varying the amount of contextual information given and how it is presented to the models. Our results show the GPT models are not only more consistent and reliable than human annotators, but also provide annotations in a more cost- and time-efficient manner. © 2023 IEEE.

Diverse critical data, such as location information and driving patterns, can be collected by IoT devices in vehicular networks to improve driving experiences and road safety. However, drivers are often reluctant to share their data due to privacy concerns. The Federated Vehicular Network (FVN) is a promising technology that tackles these concerns by transmitting model parameters instead of raw data, thereby protecting the privacy of drivers. Nevertheless, the performance of Federated Learning (FL) in a vehicular network depends on the joining ratio, which is restricted by the limited available wireless resources. To address these challenges, this paper proposes to apply Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access (NOMA) to improve the joining ratio in a FVN. Specifically, a vehicle selection and transmission power control algorithm is developed to exploit the power domain differences in the received signal to ensure the maximum number of vehicles capable of joining the FVN. Our simulation results demonstrate that the proposed NOMA-based strategy increases the joining ratio and significantly enhances the performance of the FVN. Copyright © 2024, The Authors.
