Power transformers are among the most important assets in the power transmission and distribution grid. However, they suffer from degradation and possible faults causing major electrical and financial losses. Partial discharges (PDs) are used to identify the insulation health status and their degradation level. PDs are incipient, low-magnitude faults caused by localized dielectric breakdown. Those activities emit signals in many forms, including electrical, chemical, acoustic, electromagnetic, and optical, facilitating various detection methods. This paper provides a theoretical basis for the condition evaluation of an oil-filled power transformer and clarifies the relationship between the operating voltage, void location, and electric-field intensity within the void. This was achieved by investigating the propagation characteristics of partial discharge signals in an oil-filled power transformer using a 3D finite element method (FEM) based simulation. Moreover, the characterization of simulated PD sources at different positions is investigated in this paper. The simulation results are curried out to show that air voids near the windings are subject to greatest peak electric field intensity. © 2023 IEEE.

This study addresses the affine formation maneuver control of cooperative multi-agent systems (MAS) having periodic inter-agent communication for both static and dynamic leader cases. Here, we focus on the leader-follower MASs. The primary aim of the control system is to steer the entire collection of agents to produce required patterns (geometric) along with any required maneuver through the direct control of only few a selected agents referred to as leaders. Most of the existing works are constrained to either the individual agents communicate with each other in continuous-time or the sample-data scenario where the leaders are stationary or have constant acceleration or velocities. Here, we consider the scenarios where the velocities of the leaders can be time-varying or constant. Here, different cases are addressed and some control laws are proposed. Conditions are established to help guarantee the overall stability of the systems. A simulation study is employed for the illustration of our proposed laws. © 2024 IEEE.

To avoid micro-organisms spreading in hospitals, hand hygiene and hospital environment disinfection and cleaning is considered to prevent the infections. Therefore, CDC provides hand hygiene and surface cleaning evaluation methods to ensure that source of micro-organisms is disposed. Basically, the surface cleaning is evaluated by the cleaning evaluator who identifies the unclean area through the brightness area of fluorescent marker shined by blacklight under a dark room. However, the evaluation errors may occur if the determine surface is barely clean where the fluorescent marker is not completely removed. Moreover, it is very difficult to meet the same evaluation standard if the evaluation is done by human estimation. In addition, it takes long evaluation time via visual evaluation. In this paper, we propose an automated surface cleaning evaluation algorithm that evaluates the surface cleaning automatically by extracting the color image component, blue, which is noticeably bright under the blacklight characteristic. In the experiment, we compare the performance of the proposed algorithm using blue component to other image components. As a result, the proposed algorithm shows the highest accuracy determined by the experienced cleaning evaluator. Moreover, the proposed algorithm shows 4.384 times faster of surface cleaning detection than cleaning evaluator. © 2024 IEEE.

Accuracy of the simulation results obtained from the FEA analysis of electric motors is highly dependent on the quality of the motor performance metrics such as motor steady state temperatures and losses. In addition such FEA analysis is typically computationally burdensome and demanding. Improving the computational burden and accuracy of core losses calculation and thermal evaluation in Time-Stepping Finite Element (TS-FE) models of induction motors is addressed in this paper. The Virtual Blocked Rotor (VBR)-based Time-Stepping Finite Element (TS-FE) technique is utilized to mitigate the numerical transient response of the induction motor FE model. The motor core losses have been calculated through the harmonic based core loss calculation that assumes variable loss coefficients as a function of magnetic flux density. In addition, the motor estimated losses, including the calculated core losses are fed to a thermal network model to estimate the temperature of different motor components. © 2023 IEEE.

The present study aims to explore the adaptation of estimation methodologies, specifically Particle filters and Kalman filters, for the purpose of determining the position and velocity vector of obstacles within the operational workspace of mobile robots. These algorithms are commonly employed in the motion planning tasks of mobile robots for the estimation of their own position. The proposed methodology utilizes LiDAR sensor data to estimate the position vectors and calculate the velocity vectors of obstacles. Additionally, an uncertainty parameter can be determined using the introduced perception method. The performance of the newly adapted algorithms is evaluated through comparison of the absolute error in position and velocity vector estimations. © 2023 Budapest University of Technology and Economics. Sensitivity analysis is a powerful tool that can be utilized for reducing the size of the design space at hand to explore and significantly reduce the computational burden of the optimization process. This is achieved by 'smart' design variable selection. The term 'smart' indicates fixing the un-conflicting design variables that do not require exploration to their maximum or minimum values, depending on their enhancing or degrading effect on the objective functions and allowing the conflicting design variables to be explored within their allowable dynamic range. Intelligent optimization is a critical part of induction motor design process. In this paper, computationally efficient sensitivity analysis is performed to effectively reduce the number of the design variables that will be actively explored in the optimization process of the induction motors. This goal is achieved through the VBR-based TS-FEA together with Design of Experiment and Response Surface Methodology. In addition, the motor estimated losses, including the calculated core losses are fed to a thermal network model to estimate the temperature of different motor components. © 2023 IEEE.

This topic proposed a Sliding Mode control (SMC) strategy utilizing the BAT Algorithm (BAT-SMC) for regulating concentration and temperature in a Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR) system. The SMC is designed to maintain concentration (CA) and temperature (T) within desired setpoints by adapting sliding surfaces in the presence of disturbances and system uncertainties. The BAT Algorithm enhances the SMC by optimizing control parameters, reducing chattering effects, and improving tracking accuracy. Simulations validate the efficacy of BAT-SMC, showing improved dynamic performance for both concentration and temperature control compared to other controllers. © 2025 IEEE.

In recent years, with the development of wireless communication networks, federated learning (FL) has been widely deployed in distributed scenarios as a privacy-preserving machine learning paradigm. Due to its inherent features, FL shows vulnerability to backdoor attacks. In a backdoor attack, an adversary manipulates the global model's output by compromising the model of one or multiple participants. Existing backdoor attacks are constrained to outputting a single specified target label during the inference phase, limiting the adversary's flexibility to alter the model's output when different target labels are required. In this paper, we study the multi-target attack scenario within the federated learning context, where the adversary aims to manipulate the global model to output various specified labels by inserting different types of triggers. To effectively insert multiple backdoors simultaneously without reducing the attack's effectiveness, we propose MulDoor, a novel multi-target backdoor attack scheme. MulDoor incorporates the concept of supervised contrastive learning to learn the discrepancies among different types of triggers and mitigate interference between them. The experimental results demonstrate that MulDoor achieves better attack effectiveness compared to existing backdoor attacks in a multi-target backdoor attack setting. © 2024 IEEE.

With the rapid development of crowd sensing computing, Mobile crowdsourcing (MCS) has become an indispensable part of today’s society. While MCS brings convenience to people, it also exposes them to the risk of privacy leakage. In addition, the demand for data is increasing, and the personalized privacy requirements of crowd workers may affect the service quality. In order to address these problems, this paper proposes a personalized privacy protection incentive mechanism (PPPIM) for MCS based on homomorphic encryption and edge computing. Firstly, this paper designs a personalized privacy metric, using social attributes and private attributes of crowd workers to calculate the privacy level required by crowd workers. Then, based on homomorphic encryption and edge computing, a personalized residual federated security learning scheme (PRFSL) is proposed to ensure the security, timeliness, integrity of task data and the privacy of crowd workers’ needs to improve encryption efficiency. Finally, based on the evolutionary game, a personalized privacy incentive mechanism is proposed to improve the overall service utility. Experimental comparisons based on real datasets show that the proposed scheme can not only ensure the security, timeliness, and integrity of task data more effectively. It can also effectively reduce data processing time, improve the probability of crowd workers actively completing tasks and the overall service quality utility.
