High Efficiency Dual-Active-Bridge Converter with Triple-Phase-Shift control for Battery Charger of Electric Vehicles

An optimal modulation scheme with triple-phase-shift (TPS) control could increase the efficiency in the entire load range for a dual-active-bridge (DAB) converter under wide output voltage range conditions. Therefore, this study proposes a convergent approach to TPS mode selection, coupled with an optimal modulation scheme, ensuring the circuit’s efficiency over the entire range in the realm of a high-power and high-efficiency battery charger for electric vehicles. The convergent approach to TPS mode selection also reduces the numerous cases for small-signal analysis through general average modeling. After verifying the small-signal models under various voltage transfer ratios and load conditions to verify the stability, a converter prototype with a rated power of 15 kW is built and tested. Thus, a peak efficiency of 97.7% can be achieved. © 2024 by the authors.

This study explores the neurological basis of emotions using a multi-method approach, analysing functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) data obtained from a 26-channel device. Author’s primary objective was to examine the brain’s response to tasks that provoke emotional, imagery and affective reactions through the observation of hemodynamic changes in data. By applying data processing methods and techniques, cerebral activations corresponding to different emotional states were shown. This research enriches comprehension of how emotion and imagery tasks are processed by the brain and offers insights into aspects of brain activity during emotionally charged engagements.

This paper addresses the problem of collaboratively satisfying long-term spatial constraints in multi-agent systems. Each agent is subject to spatial constraints, expressed as inequalities, which may depend on the positions of other agents with whom they may or may not have direct communication. These constraints need to be satisfied asymptotically or after an unknown finite time. The agents’ objective is to collectively achieve a formation that fulfills all constraints. The problem is initially framed as a centralized unconstrained optimization, where the solution yields the optimal configuration by maximizing an objective function that reflects the degree of constraint satisfaction. This function encourages collaboration, ensuring agents help each other meet their constraints while fulfilling their own. When the constraints are infeasible, agents converge to a least-violating solution. A distributed consensus-based optimization scheme is then introduced, which approximates the centralized solution, leading to the development of distributed controllers for single-integrator agents. In this paper, researchers adopt multi-objective particle swarm optimization to tackle the issue of multi-objective combined economic emission dispatch (CEED). The equality and inequality restrictions in this optimization process make it non-linear. In most cases, it divides up the total amount of power generated by all the units in a given system. Primary goals include lowering fuel costs and minimizing environmental impact within prescribed constraints. Economic dispatch is often formulated as a nonlinear system, and the resulting solutions often fall behind expectations. However, these methods are not suitable for solving the economic dispatch issue because of their non-convex character. Several AI methods are used for the economic dispatch issue due to its complexity and the fact that it is neither linear nor smooth. The conventional form of the meta-heuristic approach, particle swarm optimization (PSO), has difficulty dealing with such difficulties, yet it is still widely utilized. In order to solve this issue, this work presents an updated form of particle swarm optimization. The efficiency of the customized version of specific swarm optimization (PSO) is verified in the MATLAB Simulink environment. Finding a Pareto-optimal, industrially, the multi-objective solution to the emission dispatch issue using multi-objective particle swarm optimization is shown to be a viable option. © 2022 IEEE.

A lab-on-a-chip (LOC) thermal mass flow sensor based on microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) technology is designed, fabricated, and characterized. Vanadium dioxide (VO2), a nonlinear phase-change material with 3-order of change in resistance is placed in the down streaming direction of the heat source as the sensing element. The resistance of VO2 is monitored under gas flow rates ranging from 0 to 37.8 μL·s-1 with a maximum sensitivity of 368.56 ppm/(μL·min-1). The studies presented in this research may enable the application of utilizing nonlinear metamaterial in microfluidic LOC sensors with orders of magnitude improvement in sensitivity. © 2022 MicroTAS 2022 - 26th International Conference on Miniaturized Systems for Chemistry and Life Sciences. Hand hygiene (HH) is one of the most important activities of protection against pandemic disease in the current difficult situation around the world. To achieve this, World Health Organization (WHO) recommends frequent hand washing with soap and hand sanitization using hand sanitizers. Hand sanitizers are generally applied by squirting the sanitizer liquid by hand and it may cause to spread of viral carriers to many peoples. To reduce the spread of pandemic disease and to reduce contact with potential carriers of viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites in public places, in this paper, the authors have designed an automated contactless hand sanitizer dispenser system (ACHSDS) with an infrared (IR) sensor and based on a PIC18F4550 microcontroller for use in public places, workplaces, kindergartens, schools, universities and etc. The ACHSDS can be used without touching or holding, and may decrease the risk of contamination. © 2022 ACM.

In real-world datasets, leveraging the low-rank and sparsity properties enables developing efficient algorithms across a diverse array of data-related tasks, including compression, compressed sensing, matrix completion, etc. Notably, these two properties often coexist in certain real-world datasets, especially in Boolean datasets and quantized real-valued datasets. To harness the advantages of low-rank and sparsity simultaneously, we adopt a technique inspired by compressed sensing and Boolean matrix completion. Our approach entails compressing a low-rank sparse Boolean matrix by performing inner product operations with a randomly generated Boolean matrix. We then propose a decoding algorithms based on message-passing techniques to recover the original matrix. Our experiments demonstrate superior recovery performance of our proposed algorithms compared to Boolean matrix completion, with equal measurement requirements. © 2025 IEEE.

The comparator is essential in analog-to-digital converters (ADC). This paper analyzes different improvements in the designs of comparators. In order to improve the energy efficiency, the dynamic bias comparator was developed, and it also reduces the input-referred noise. A floating reservoir design was then adopted to solve some weaknesses of the dynamic bias comparator and further increases energy efficiency. On-chip inductors and charge pumps were also implemented to perfect the performance of the comparator. These two changes improve delay performance, and the first one reduces power consumption simultaneously. The last update was an energy-efficient ring oscillator collapse-based comparator. It adjusts the performance of the comparator without any external control and then makes the energy consumption achieve a minimum value without energy scaling. At the same time, this comparator has a wider resolution tuning capability. © 2022 SPIE.

This paper introduces a robust controller designed for load frequency control in a dual-area integrated power grid. Here, the suggested controller is a blend of a fuzzy logic controller with an integral controller. The parameters of the integral controller and frequency bias settings are optimized to enhance the dynamic response of the proposed controller. To attain this, three distinct optimization algorithms are employed, i.e., genetic algorithm, simulated annealing, and pattern search. A new objective function using settling time, settling-max, and settling-min with a suitable weight factor is used to improve the parameters estimation process. A comparative analysis is performed using the proposed approach and classical-I controller under two cases considering several load disturbance scenarios. Furthermore, the suggested hybrid controller is evaluated and compared with similar models in the literature. As expected, the proposed controller exhibits superior performance. © 2023 IEEE.
