Austenitic stainless steel is classified as a nonmagnetic material. However application of stress transforms the plastic part of it into a martensitic crystal structure and it takes on magnetization. Strain evaluation can be performed by measuring the leakage magnetic flux from the remanent magnetization after applying stress to austenitic stainless steels. This paper presents the measurement to make clear the distributions of the leakage magnetic flux after applying strain into austenitic stainless steels by magnetic sensors.

Asymptotic and interval observer for quality monitoring in drinking water distribution systems is derived in this paper. It produces robust interval bounds on the estimated state variables of the water quality. Solving two differential equations generates the bounds; hence the numerical efficiency is sufficient for on-line monitoring of the water quality. The observer is applied to example water network and tight bounds-estimates are obtained.

Monitoring of multidimensional, sophisticated processes still can be a challenge. The paper presents tools to handle such cases, which are based on the Principal Component Analysis with the adaptive enhancement. A novel PCA algorithm is derived with the adaptive supervisor. It is applied to monitoring operation of wastewater treatment plant and tested by simulation based on real data records.

This paper proposes a new model for time-delay systems, which contains multiple successive delay components in the state and has important applications in remote control and network based control. New results on stability and H ∞ performance are obtained for systems with two successive delay components. The second part of this paper applies the proposed new model to network based control, which has emerged as a topic of significant interest in the control community. A sampled-data networked control system with simultaneous consideration of network induced delays, data packet dropouts and measurement quantization is modelled as a time-delay system with two successive delay components in the state and, the problem of network based H ∞ control is solved accordingly.

Most of industrial processes are nonlinear, not stationary, and dynamical with at least few different time scales in their internal dynamics and hardly measured states. A biological wastewater treatment plant falls into this category. The paper considers modelling such processes for monitorning and control purposes by using State - Space Wavelet Neural Networks (SSWN). The modelling method is illustrated based on bioreactors of the wastewater treatment plant. The learning algorithms and basis function (multidimensional wavelets) are also proposed. The motivation of this research is to improve the ability of ambulation for people with a certain degree of disability. The control of the wheelchair is using two tilt sensors as an input-controlling module. One of the tilt sensors detects the anterior/posterior tilting of the head and moves the wheelchair forward/backward, the other distinguishes the left/right swing of the head. In order to increase the safety of this system, the M3S protocol established by the European Commission is also applied to this research. This paper deals with the problem of robust fault estimation for uncertain time delay Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy models. The aim of this study is to design a delay dependent fault estimator ensuring a prescribed H infin performance level for the fault estimation error, irrespective of the uncertainties and the time delays. Sufficient conditions for the existence of a robust fault estimator are given in terms of linear matrix inequalities. Membership functions'(MFs) characteristics are incorporated into the fault estimator design to reduce the conservativeness of neglecting these characteristics
