This paper describes the principles of an intelligent automaton for controlling the secondary stage of a wastewater treatment plant. The automaton has been implemented as a finite state machine that can be integrated into the existing supervisory control and data acquisition system of any wastewater treatment plant. Human knowledge, in the form of linguistic rules, is embedded in the automaton, which has been shown to be capable of controlling the process very satisfactorily in all but extreme conditions.

In this paper, a direct learning control method for a class of switched systems is proposed. The objective of direct learning is to generate the desired control profile for a newly switched system without any feedback, even if the system may have uncertainties. This is achieved by exploring the inherent relationship between any two systems before and after a switch. The new method is applicable to a class of linear time varying, uncertain and switched systems, when the trajectory tracking control problem is concerned. A numerical simulation demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Design of an optimal nonlinear state feedback voltage regulator for power systems is proposed in this paper. In order to obtain the nonlinear control law the Hamilton-Jacobi-Belman (HJB) equation is solved using Taylor series expansion of its nonlinear terms. The performance of the proposed controller in a single machine-infinite bus power system is simulated and the advantages of the nonlinear feedback controllers in some grounds like increasing the fault tolerance and domain of validity of the close-loop system are investigated. Also, the advantages of the proposed controller in the presence of some disturbances are shown. Simulation results reveal the effectiveness of the proposed controller.

In this paper a novel approach to the problem of impulsive noise reduction in color images based on the nonparametric density estimation is presented. The basic idea behind the new image filtering technique is the maximization of the similarities between pixels in a predefined filtering window. The new method is faster than the standard vector median filter (VMF) and preserves better edges and fine image details. Simulation results show that the proposed method outperforms standard algorithms of the reduction of impulsive noise in color images.

In this paper is proposed a robust higher-order iterative learning control (ILC) algorithm for discrete-time systems. In contrast to conventional discrete-time learning methods, the proposed learning algorithm is constructed based on both time-domain performance and iteration-domain performance. Also, the proposed learning algorithm use more than one past error in the iteration-domain. It is proved that the proposed method has robustness in the presence of external disturbances and, in absence of all disturbances, the convergence of the proposed learning algorithm is guaranteed. A numerical example is given to show the robustness in the presence of state disturbance and convergence property according to parameters change.
