A single study has addressed actuator failure reconstruction for the One-sided Lipschitz (OSL) family of nonlinear systems. The predicted fault vector in that work does not provide any insight into the underlying problematic physical characteristics of the system, which is a significant shortcoming. In this work, we offer a way for estimating the incorrect physical parameters of actuators using an adaptive observer strategy. To demonstrate the utility of the suggested method, a numerical example and simulation research are provided. © 2022 IEEE.

Resilient distributed optimization under mobile malicious attacks

This article addresses the distributed optimization problem in the presence of malicious adversaries that can move within the network and induce faulty behaviors in the attacked nodes. We first investigate the vulnerabilities of a consensus-based secure distributed optimization protocol under mobile adversaries. Then, a modified resilient distributed optimization algorithm is proposed. We develop conditions on the network structure for both complete and non-complete directed graph cases, under which the proposed algorithm guarantees that the estimates by regular nodes converge to the convex combination of the minimizers of their local functions. Simulations are carried out to verify the effectiveness of our approach.

The integration of renewable energy sources (RESs) at the edge of the grid plays a contributory role in advancing the transition to a sustainable energy future. However, this transition introduces significant variability, which challenges the maintenance of frequency stability in power systems. To address the impacts of RES variability, various robust control strategies have been developed. This paper compares the performance of different advanced sliding mode control (SMC) approaches, i.e., super twisting (ST) algorithm-based second order sliding mode control (STSOSMC), second order sliding mode control (SOSMC), double integral sliding mode control (DISMC) and integral sliding mode control (ISMC) with conventional sliding mode control (SMC) for load frequency control with stochastic RESs such as biogas generators (BG) and wind-based doubly fed induction generators (DFIG). The impact of the advanced sliding mode controllers on the voltage and rotor angle stability of the system is also explored. The efficacy of the controllers is tested under different load disturbances, considering nonlinearities such as communication delay (CD), sensor inaccuracy (SI), governor dead band (GDB), and generation rate constraint (GRC). The results demonstrate that STSOSMC achieves superior frequency regulation with minimal chattering and outperforms other controllers in terms of settling time, overshooting, and undershooting in frequency deviation. The result also demonstrates the effectiveness of STSOSMC in managing the variability and disturbances of RESs. Therefore, it could be considered the most robust control mechanism from the edge of the grid system with high penetration of RESs. © 2025 The Author(s). Organisms have evolved innate and acquired immune systems to defend against pathogens like coronaviruses. Similarly, power networks, threatened by cyber-attacks, desire cyber-immunity. Inspired by the immunology research, this study develops a cyber-immune strategy-characterizing innate cyber-immunity and establishing acquired cyber-immunity-for any selected portion of a power network (termed as power subnetwork) against stealthy false data injection (FDI) cyberattacks. Therein, without extrinsic protection and information asymmetry, this paper for the first time confirms the existence and provides closed-form conditions for power subnetworks that are innately immune to FDI cyber-attacks despite all measurements being compromised. Single-leader-multi-follower bi-level optimization models are then developed to strategically allocate measurement protection, leading to the acquired cyber-immunity, whose conditions for existence and the least cost are explicitly formulated. More importantly, a bi-directional cyber-immunity propagation mechanism is presented to provide the optimal spatial allocation of defense resources across adjacent subnetworks. It also explicitly determines the temporal allocation sequence, revealing its sequential and cumulative impacts on establishing cyber-immunity. This is achieved by designing recursive traversal algorithms, one of which is modelled as a post-order depth-first-search problem of a multi-fork tree. The proposed subnetwork-specific cyber-immune strategy is verified in a modified Australian National Electricity Market. © 1969-2012 IEEE.

Underwater robotic surveys can be costly due to the complex working environment and the need for various sensor modalities. While underwater simulators are essential, many existing simulators lack sufficient rendering quality, restricting their ability to transfer algorithms from simulation to real-world applications. To address this limitation, we introduce UNav-Sim, which, to the best of our knowledge, is the first simulator to incorporate the efficient, high-detail rendering of Unreal Engine 5 (UE5). UNav-Sim is open-source1 and includes an autonomous vision-based navigation stack. By supporting standard robotics tools like ROS, UNav-Sim enables researchers to develop and test algorithms for underwater environments efficiently. © 2023, CC BY.

Leader-Follower Formation Tracking control of Quadrotor UAVs Using Bearing Measurements

This work addresses the practical problem of distributed formation tracking control of a group of quadrotor vehicles in a relaxed sensing graph topology with a very limited sensor set, where only one leader vehicle can access the global position. Other vehicles in the formation are assumed to only have access to inter-agent bearing (direction) measurements and relative velocities with respect to their neighbor agents. A hierarchical control architecture is adopted for each quadrotor, combining a high-gain attitude inner-loop and an outer-loop bearing-based formation controller with collision avoidance augmentation. The proposed method enables a group of quadrotors to track arbitrary bearing persistently exciting desired formations, including time-varying shapes and rotational maneuvers, such that each quadrotor only requires relative measurements to at least one neighboring quadrotor. The effective performance of the control strategy is validated by numerical simulations in MATLAB and real-world experiments with three quadrotors. © 2025, CC BY-NC-ND.

The contribution begins with the attention that there is attention of directly grid connected wind turbine systems with generator designs adapting to the grid constraints. This paper considers permanent magnet synchronous generator topologies with rotor field coils to achieve reduced mass with good efficiency for smart grids. Conventional double-excited synchronous generators have surface mounted permanent magnets. However, the low relative permeability of PMs results in an increased air-gap size. This increased air-gap size limits the minimal copper-mass of the rotor-field-winding. To improve on this limitation, Interior permanent magnets (IPM) are used. Three rotor topologies with IPM are presented in this paper. The analysis of their 2D FEM results and optimization are shown considering their magnetizing current, torque, Back EMF for smart grids application. The three rotor topologies are compared on the overall active mass and their performance by considering PM and rotor copper mass, torque capabilities and efficiency. The spoke-type topology with rectangular magnets achieves the lowest total rotor mass reduction of 39% total mass reduction when compared to the topology with PMs that are buried horizontally. The reduced copper mass and flux variation capabilities are good characteristics in wind energy conversion generators with direct grid connections for smart grid.

Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) information play a vital role in everyday life of common persons. People greatly rely on Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)-enabled applications for navigation to reach their desired destination. However, GNSS navigation performance is highly degraded in urban environments due to the high probability of signal interruption, multipath (MP), and/or non-line-of-sight (NLOS) signal reception. Multipath and NLOS being the major causes of disrupted positioning performance for GNSS in urban environments. The navigation signals encountered various environmental factors they are reflected, refracted, diffracted, and completely blocked by high-roof buildings, bridges, and trees, thus leading to severe uncertainties in position estimation. GNSS system has gained notable advancements in terms of number of satellites, satellite geometry and signal quality. In this paper newly established constellation BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS-3) performance is quantified with respect to environmental changes and compared in terms of positional accuracy. The paper also discussed the innovative current developments and status of BDS-3 in 2023. For this reason, series of field experiments were carried out at clear open and urban environment with BDS-3 and GPS mode during the observation time of 6 hours. The BDS-3 system is configured for data logging and used for the first time at Pakistan region. The positioning and navigation performance of BDS-3 is evaluated by utilizing key performance indicators e.g satellite availability, geometric distribution in terms of PDOP, and statistical accuracy measures (i.e., Circular Error Probable (CEP) and Distance Root Mean Square (DRMS)). The experimental results shows that BDS-3 provides more number of satellites, favorable satellite geometry and reduced position error compared to GPS constellation in clear open sky environment. In urban environment it is observed that BDS-3 performance is reduced

Data-Driven Nonconvex Reachability Analysis using Exact Multiplication

This paper addresses a fundamental challenge in data-driven reachability analysis: accurately representing and propagating non-convex reachable sets. We propose a novel approach using constrained polynomial zonotopes to describe reachable sets for unknown LTI systems. Unlike constrained zonotopes commonly used in existing literature, constrained polynomial zonotopes are closed under multiplication with constrained matrix zonotopes. We leverage this property to develop an exact multiplication method that preserves the non-convex geometry of reachable sets without resorting to approximations. We demonstrate that our approach provides tighter over-approximations of reachable sets for LTI systems compared to conventional methods. © 2025, CC BY.

This paper presents issues related to implementing energy storage in a low-voltage distribution grid with many renewable sources. The purpose of the storage installation is to balance and stabilise the mains voltage. Thanks to this, outages of prosumer photovoltaic installations are limited and energy from RES can be used more effectively without expanding the distribution infrastructure. The article presents the concept and operation modes of the energy storage system illustrated with the course of actual research registered during the pilot project implemented in the Ochotnica Dolna Commune in cooperation with the AGH university of Science and technology and Tauron Dystrybucja. © 2023 IEEE.
