Nonlinear Bipartite Output Regulation with Application to Turing Pattern

In this paper, a bipartite output regulation problem is solved for a class of nonlinear multi-agent systems subject to static signed communication networks. A nonlinear distributed observer is proposed for a nonlinear exosystem with cooperation-competition interactions to address the problem. Sufficient conditions are provided to guarantee its existence and stability. The exponential stability of the observer is established. As a practical application, a leader-following bipartite consensus problem is solved for a class of nonlinear multi-agent systems based on the observer. Finally, a network of multiple pendulum systems is treated to support the feasibility of the proposed design. The possible application of the approach to generate specific Turing patterns is also presented. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Increasingly stringent throughput requirements in the industry necessitate the need for lightweight design of high-precision motion systems to allow for high accelerations, while still achieving accurate positioning of the moving-body. The presence of position dependent dynamics in such motion systems severely limits achievable position tracking performance using conventional sequential loop closing (SLC) control design strategies. This paper presents a novel extension of the conventional SLC design framework towards linear-parameter-varying systems, which allows to circumvent limitations that are introduced by position dependent effects in high-precision motion systems. As an important component of the sixth generation communication technologies, the space-air-ground integrated network (SAGIN) attracts increasing attentions in recent years. However, due to the mobility and heterogeneity of the components such as satellites and unmanned aerial vehicles in multilayer SAGIN, the challenges of inefficient resource allocation and management complexity are aggregated. To this end, the network function virtualization technology is introduced and can be implemented via service function chains (SFCs) deployment. However, urgent unexpected tasks may bring conflicts and resource competition during SFC deployment, and how to schedule the SFCs of multiple tasks in SAGIN is a key issue. In this paper, we address the dynamic and complexity of SAGIN by presenting a reconfigurable time extension graph and further propose the dynamic SFC scheduling model. Then, we formulate the SFC scheduling problem to maximize the number of successful deployed SFCs within limited resources and time horizons. Since the problem is in the form of integer linear programming and intractable to solve, we propose the algorithm by incorporating deep reinforcement learning. Finally, simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has better convergence and performance compared to other benchmark algorithms. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The ever increasing need for performance results in increasingly rigorous demands on throughput and positioning accuracy of high-precision motion systems, which often suffer from position dependent effects that originate from relative actuation and sensing of the moving-body. Due to the highly stiff mechanical design, such systems are typically controlled using rigid body control design approaches. Nonetheless, the presence of position dependent flexible dynamics severely limits attainable position tracking performance. This paper presents two extensions of the conventional rigid body control framework towards active control of position dependent flexible dynamics. Additionally, a novel control design approach is presented, which allows for shaping of the full closed-loop system by means of structured H∞ co-design. The rapid development of the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) has brought about an enormous amount of healthcare data. Effectively and securely processing this sensitive data has become a significant challenge for green communication and privacy protection of the IoMT. As a decentralized learning framework, Federate learning (FL) enables model training without directly aggregating users' raw data, thus ensuring user privacy protection. Moreover, numerous studies have put forth various approaches to enhance the efficiency of FL by minimizing communication costs, yet they may not fully account for the unique characteristics of IoMT. Specifically, the efficiency and performance of model training are closely related to patient life and health. Meanwhile, existing research has indicated that reducing communication costs can result in a decline in training accuracy, which may be critical to patient health. Therefore, aimed at green communication and ensuring the model accuracy, we design a communication-efficient personalized federated learning framework, namely pFedCAS. Specifically, we introduce a control unit, which enables adaptive sparsity of local models, to reduce training costs. Furthermore, a selection unit based on communication quality is added into the global aggregation, which can select suitable clients for model updating. Simulation results validate that the proposed method can significantly reduce communication costs while ensuring the model accuracy. Additionally, The simulation results also validate the excellent robustness of our method to non-iid healthcare data.

This paper considers risk-averse learning in convex games involving multiple agents that aim to minimize their individual risk of incurring significantly high costs. Specifically, the agents adopt the conditional value at risk (CVaR) as a risk measure with possibly different risk levels. To solve this problem, we propose a first-order risk-averse leaning algorithm, in which the CVaR gradient estimate depends on an estimate of the Value at Risk (VaR) value combined with the gradient of the stochastic cost function. Although estimation of the CVaR gradients using finitely many samples is generally biased, we show that the accumulated error of the CVaR gradient estimates is bounded with high probability. Moreover, assuming that the risk-averse game is strongly monotone, we show that the proposed algorithm converges to the risk-averse Nash equilibrium. We present numerical experiments on a Cournot game example to illustrate the performance of the proposed method.

In this work, we provide an experimental vali-dation of the recent concepts of closed-loop state and input sensitivity in the context of robust flight control for a quadrotor (UAV) equipped with the popular PX4 1 1 https://***/ controller. Our objective is to experimentally assess how the optimization of the reference trajectory w.r.t. these sensitivity metrics can improve the closed-loop system performance against model uncertainties commonly affecting the quadrotor systems. To accomplish this, we present a series of experiments designed to validate our optimization approach on two distinct trajectories, with the primary aim of assessing its precision in guiding the quadrotor through the center of a window at relatively high speeds. This approach provides some interesting insights for increasing the closed-loop robustness of the robot state and inputs against physical parametric uncertainties that may degrade the system's performance.

In industrial settings, querying data streams from Internet of Things (IoT) devices benefits from utilizing elastic criteria to enhance the interpretability of the current state of the monitored environment. Fuzzy sets provide this elasticity, enabling the aggregation and representation of similar values in a human-comprehensible manner. However, many sensor signals exhibit temporal oscillations, leading to varying interpretations of the signal based on its current trend (rising or falling). This hysteresis in signal (and subsequently of the production device) interpretation inspired us to introduce this phenomenon into data stream processing, resulting in the novel concept of hysteretic fuzzy sets. This article demonstrates how fuzzy searching and grouping can be applied to IoT sensor signals in flexible Big Data stream processing on Apache Kafka. We illustrate the impact of data stream querying with KSQL queries involving fuzzy sets (encompassing fuzzy filtering of data stream events, fuzzy transformation of data stream attributes, fuzzy grouping, and joining) on the flexibility of executed operations and computational resources utilized by the Kafka processing engine. Finally, our experiments with hysteretic fuzzy sets while analyzing sensor signals in power plants demonstrate that this novel approach effectively reduces the number of alarms while monitoring the state of the production machine.

In this paper we deal with stochastic optimization problems where the data distributions change in response to the decision variables. Traditionally, the study of optimization problems with decision-dependent distributions has assumed either the absence of constraints or fixed constraints. This work considers a more general setting where the constraints can also dynamically adjust in response to changes in the decision variables. Specifically, we consider linear constraints and analyze the effect of decision-dependent distributions in both the objective function and constraints. Firstly, we establish a sufficient condition for the existence of a constrained equilibrium point, at which the distributions remain invariant under retraining. Moreover, we propose and analyze two algorithms: repeated constrained optimization and repeated dual ascent. For each algorithm, we provide sufficient conditions for convergence to the constrained equilibrium point. Furthermore, we explore the relationship between the equilibrium point and the optimal point for the constrained decision-dependent optimization problem. Notably, our results encompass previous findings as special cases when the constraints remain fixed. To show the effectiveness of our theoretical analysis, we provide numerical experiments on both a market problem and a dynamic pricing problem for parking based on real-world data. © 1963-2012 IEEE.
