This paper studies the distributed bandit convex optimization problem with time-varying inequality constraints, where the goal is to minimize network regret and cumulative constraint violation. To calculate network cumulative constraint violation, existing distributed bandit online algorithms solving this problem directly use the clipped constraint function to replace its original constraint function. However, the use of the clipping operation renders Slater’s condition (i.e, there exists a point that strictly satisfies the inequality constraints at all iterations) ineffective to achieve reduced network cumulative constraint violation. To tackle this challenge, we propose a new distributed bandit online primal–dual algorithm. If local loss functions are convex, we show that the proposed algorithm establishes an O(T max{c,1−c})network regret bound and an O(T 1−c/2) network cumulative constraint violation bound, where T is the total number of iterations and c ∈ (0, 1) is a user-defined trade-off parameter. When Slater’s condition holds, the network cumulative constraint violation bound is reduced to O(T 1−c). In addition, if local loss functions are strongly convex, for the case where strongly convex parameters are unknown, the network regret bound is reduced to O(T1−c), and the network cumulative constraint violation bound is O(T1−c/2) and O(T1−c) without and with Slater’s condition, respectively. For the case where strongly convex parameters are known, the network regret bound is further reduced to O)(log(T)), and the network cumulative constraint violation bound is reduced to O(log(T)T) and O(log(T)) without and with Slater’s condition, respectively. To the best of our knowledge, this paper is among the first to establish reduced (network) cumulative constraint violation bounds for (distributed) bandit convex optimization with time-varying constraints under Slater’s condition. Epilepsy affects approximately 50 million people worldwide. Despite its prevalence, the recurrence of seizures can be mitigated only 70% of the time through medication. Furthermore, surgery success rates range from 30% - 70% because of our limited understanding of how a seizure starts. However, one leading hypothesis suggests that a seizure starts because of a critical transition due to an instability. Unfortunately, we lack a meaningful way to quantify this notion that would allow physicians to not only better predict seizures but also to mitigate them. Hence, in this paper, we develop a method to not only characterize the instability of seizures but also to leverage these conditions to stabilize the system underlying these seizures. Remarkably, evidence suggests that such critical transitions are associated with long-term memory dynamics, which can be captured by considering linear fractional-order systems. Subsequently, we provide for the first time tractable necessary and sufficient conditions for the global asymptotic stability of discrete-time linear fractional-order systems. Next, we propose a method to obtain a stabilizing control strategy for these systems using linear matrix inequalities. Finally, we apply our methodology to a real-world epileptic patient dataset to provide insight into mitigating epilepsy and designing future cyber-neural systems.

A vehicular ad hoc network (VANETs) is transforming public transport into a safer wireless network, increasing its safety and efficiency. The VANET consists of several nodes which include RSU (Roadside Units), vehicles, traffic signals, and other wireless communication devices that are communicating sensitive information in a network. Nevertheless, security threats are increasing day by day because of dependency on network infrastructure, dynamic nature, and control technologies used in VANET. The security threats could be addressed widely by using machine learning and artificial intelligence on the road transport nodes. In this paper, a comparison of trust and cryptography was presented based on applications and security requirements of VANET. © 2021 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

Background: To evaluate the effect of the weighting of input imaging combo and ADC threshold on the performance of the U-Net and to find an optimized input imaging combo and ADC threshold in segmenting acute ischemic stroke (AIS) lesion. Methods: This study retrospectively enrolled a total of 212 patients having AIS. Four combos, including ADC-ADC-ADC (AAA), DWI-ADC-ADC (DAA), DWI-DWI-ADC (DDA), and DWI-DWI-DWI (DDD), were used as input images, respectively. Three ADC thresholds including 0.6, 0.8 and 1.8 × 10^–3 mm²/s were applied. Dice similarity coefficient (DSC) was used to evaluate the segmentation performance of U-Nets. Nonparametric Kruskal–Wallis test with Tukey–Kramer post-hoc tests were used for comparison. A p <.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The DSC significantly varied among different combos of images and different ADC thresholds. Hybrid U-Nets outperformed uniform U-Nets at ADC thresholds of 0.6 × 10^–3 mm²/s and 0.8 × 10^–3 mm²/s (p <.001). The U-Net with imaging combo of DDD had segmentation performance similar to hybrid U-Nets at an ADC threshold of 1.8 × 10^–3 mm²/s (p =.062 to 1). The U-Net using the imaging combo of DAA at the ADC threshold of 0.6 × 10^–3 mm²/s achieved the highest DSC in the segmentation of AIS lesion. Conclusions: The segmentation performance of U-Net for AIS varies among the input imaging combos and ADC thresholds. The U-Net is optimized by choosing the imaging combo of DAA at an ADC threshold of 0.6 × 10^–3 mm²/s in segmentating AIS lesion with highest DSC. Numerous researches emphasized that long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) plays a vital factor in various biological processes, and its mismatched expression and dysfunction are tightly linked with the occurrence of human diseases. Thus, computational models were designed to identify lncRNA-disease interactions by merging heterogeneous biological data. However, most of them neglected the intrinsic structure of multi-source information, which limits the performance for potential lncRNA-disease association prediction. Here, GCN-NIMC is introduced to alleviate the dilemma for disease-associated lncRNA genes identification based on the graph convolutional network with neural inductive matrix. This method builds a feature matrix with multi-source heterogeneous data and then learn the various information contained in the feature matrix for the sake of acquiring better feature expressions of the lncRNA-disease interactions. Experimental results on 10-repeated 5-fold cross-validation demonstrated that our proposed GCN-NIMC is superior to existing cutting-edge methods for identifying disease-related lncRNA genes. Furthermore, case studies confirmed our computational method as a practical tool with clinical benefits to develop the therapeutic schedule at lncRNA-level.

This article proposes a roadmap to address the current challenges in small-scale testbeds for Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAVs) and robot swarms. The roadmap is a joint effort of participants in the workshop "1st Workshop on Small-Scale Testbeds for Connected and Automated Vehicles and Robot Swarms," held on June 2 at the IEEE Intelligent Vehicles Symposium (IV) 2024 in Jeju, South Korea. The roadmap contains three parts: 1) enhancing accessibility and diversity, especially for underrepresented communities, 2) sharing best practices for the development and maintenance of testbeds, and 3) connecting testbeds through an abstraction layer to support collaboration. The workshop features eight invited speakers, four contributed papers [1]–[4], and a presentation of a survey paper on testbeds [5]. The survey paper provides an online comparative table of more than 25 testbeds, available at https://***/testbeds-survey. The workshop’s own website is available at https://***/iv24-workshop. Bioimpedance is a commonly used method for various conditions monitoring. In this paper, the authors carried out some research where they implemented various smoothing filters to enable identification of the bioimpedance spectroscopy parameters. The proposed filtering methods may also be used for application on embedded systems, which have smaller computing power but have become recently very popular. The obtained results with the implementation of smoothing filters were promising, however, some of the obtained results were unsatisfactory. This work also contains a brief introduction to bioimpedance spectroscopy and smoothing filters.

This paper investigates the performance of simultaneously transmitting and reflecting surface (STARS) assisted semi-grant-free non-orthogonal multiple access network with randomly distributed users. By deploying STARS, the transmit signals of grant-based user (GBU) and grant-free users (GFUs) can be exquisitely adjusted to reduce interference. We propose a maximum channel scheduling (MCS) protocol that allows a GFU to access GBU’s channel with the assistance of STARS. In particular, the impacts of perfect/imperfect successive interference cancellation (pSIC/ipSIC) on MCS protocol are taken into account. To characterize the performance of STARS aided MCS (STARS-MCS) network, we derive the expressions of outage probability for GBU and GFU with pSIC/ipSIC. By applying convolution theorem and Laplace transform, the asymptotic expressions of outage probability and diversity orders for GBU and GFU are attained. We further design a STARS-based power control (SPC) strategy to eliminate the outage probability error floor and improve the outage performance. Numerical results show that: 1) The performance of STARS-MCS outperforms the existing benchmarks in terms of outage probability and system throughput;2) The SPC strategy can effectively improve the performance of the STARS-MCS network and eliminate the outage probability error floor at high signal-to-noise ratios;and 3) By adjusting reflection and transmission coefficients of STARS, the outage performance of GBU and GFU can be greatly enhanced. © 2025 IEEE. Facial expression recognition plays a pivotal role in comprehending emotions and social interactions, particularly in individuals grappling with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), who often encounter challenges in non-verbal communication. For some with ASD, even subtle shifts in their facial expressions can prove elusive, rendering it arduous to categorize their emotional states accurately. Consequently, the analysis and processing of facial expression data hold the potential to facilitate early autism diagnosis, thereby enabling timely therapeutic interventions and alleviating the economic and psychological burdens experienced by patients. In this study, we introduce an enhanced approach that leverages a fuzzy convolutional neural network (CNN) and an Improved Binary Genetic Algorithm (IBGA) for autism diagnosis based on facial expression data. Our model confronts the intricate task of recognizing facial images by selecting salient features employing the IBGA method. Moreover, it employs fuzzy weights to ascertain the probability of similarity within the classifier layer. Our proposed model has yielded impressive outcomes, boasting an average accuracy of 0.9405 for ASD detection and 0.9365 for the recognition of six distinct facial expressions. These results hold profound implications for the enhancement of emotion recognition systems and the refinement of interventions aimed at bolstering social interactions for individuals grappling with ASD. © 2024, The Authors.
