This paper presents a simultaneous localization and mapping algorithm (SLAM) by using a new 3D sensor namely the photonic mixer devices (PMD). The PMD camera enables 3D image grabbing within a few milliseconds and gives an important impulse in visual 3D sensing. This camera is capable of capturing reliable depth images directly in real-time. The PMD is also compact and affordable, which makes it attractive for versatile applications including surveillance and computer vision. However, the PMD based device has still limited resolution and provides only gray scale information. To achieve the virtual geometric data, the rather new 3D PMD and 2D RGB color cameras are combined to generate visually realistic 3D maps. Visual input from the 2D camera not only delivers high resolution texture data but also enables the mobile robot to enhance the 3D data calculated from the range output of the PMD camera. Precision robot locomotion is implemented in order to register the 3D geometric data simultaneously.

This paper proposes a robust algorithm for detecting interest points based on the NonsubSampled Contourlet Transform (NSCT). The NSCT provides multiscale decomposition with directional filters at each scale. Furthermore, NSCT is very efficient in extracting the geometric information of images and therefore it has very good feature localization. The NSCT-based point detector is compared to the widely used Harris and Difference of Gaussian (DoG) interest point detectors. The experimental results reveal the robustness of the proposed algorithm to rotation, scale and viewpoint changes.

Acoustic emission measurement results of acoustically induced cavitation bubbles in insulating oil are presented in this paper. Spectral analysis of acquired by a broadband transducer acoustic emission signals is proposed as a diagnostic tool for estimation of aging properties of mineral insulating oils. The article describes the main parts of the designed and built measurement apparatus used for acoustic cavitation investigation in insulating oils. The paper presents streaming current distributions measured in an overflow system in both laminar and turbulent conditions. For lower values of Reynolds number the profile of current is parabolic. For higher values of Reynolds number the profile is flattened. In this paper also charge density distributions were determined in both cases. In the turbulent regime the volume charge density is distributed in the pipe more evenly compared with the laminar regime.

At suitable value of signal amplitude and frequency many of cavitation bubbles were observed. Collapsing bubbles were responsible for broadband noise included in acoustic emission signal spectra. The paper presents a new numerical integration routine BGKODE_DSP. This routine is based on BGKODE routine, which forms a practical application of the Kroghpsilas algorithm. BGKODE_DSP routine realizes the predictor-corrector method and has been simplified to ensure its applicability in real time systems. The results of the comparison between the selected common numerical integration methods and the new routine is presented. The scope of this research also involves the range of accuracy of the solution resulting from the shorter computation time. Experiments have been carried out on experimental drive system with induction motor with the use of DTC method.
