For an embedded processor, the cache design almost occupies half chip area and power consumption. According to Amdahl's law, if the power consumption of cache memories is reduced, the embedded processor can significantly save much power. However, the cache misses result in the penalty of thousands of cycles waiting and power consumption due to increasing the number of external memory access. Based on the above reason, the phased cache design is proposed and can largely improve the power consumption which wastes a set-associative cache. In this paper, the embedded pipelining processor without stalling and low-power phase cache is practiced with high-level simulation to achieve high-performance and low-power design. As experimental results, the proposed phase cache can reduce 44percent power consumption compared with traditional one-access-cycle cache and eliminate pipeline stalls incurred by phased cache with only 6percent gate count overhead.

A new digital signal processing method capable of measuring signals typical parameters, such as channel power, channel bandwidth, and carrier frequency, is presented hereinafter. In particular, thanks to some attractive features of the exploited MUSIC algorithm, the method allows the measurement of typical parameters of wideband signals even though they occupy, fully or partially, the same frequency range of other signals, such as interference or noise. This property is relevant for modern telecommunication systems that do not use an own licensed band, but rather share an unlicensed band with other systems, such in the case of those based on the standard IEEE 802.11x. The performance of the method is assessed by means of a number of experiments involving different kinds of desired and disturbing signal as well as different Signal-Interference to Noise Ratio (SINR) conditions. Obtained results show the satisfying reliability and efficacy of the proposed method, thus suggesting its use in the presence of in-channel interference.

The performance of video streaming applications over Wireless Local Area Network (WLANs), in presence of interference, are here dealt with In particular, the IEEE 802.11g standard is considered and Bluetooth and WLAN competitive data traffic are analyzed as interferer. The analysis is conducted experimentally following a cross-layer approach and through the use of properly developed testbed within a semi-anechoic chamber. Driver distraction has been recognized as a significant cause of traffic incidents. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate Electroencephalography (EEG) dynamics in response to distraction during driving. To study human cognition under specific driving task, we used Virtual Reality (VR) based driving simulation to simulate events including unexpected car deviations and mathematics questions (math) in real driving. For further assessing effects of the stimulus onset asynchrony (SOA) between the deviation onset and math presented on the EEG dynamics, we designed five cases with different SOA. The scalp-recorded EEG channel signals were first separated into independent brain sources by Independent Component Analysis (ICA). Then, the Event-Related-Spectral-Perturbations (ERSP) measuring changes of EEG power spectra were used to evaluate the brain dynamics in time-frequency domains. Results showed that increases of theta band (5approx7.8 Hz) and beta band (12.2approx17 Hz) power were observed in the frontal cortex. Results demonstrated that reaction time and multiple cortical EEG sources responded to the driving deviations and math occurrences differentially in the stimulus onset asynchrony. Results also suggested that the theta band power increase in frontal area could be used as the distracted indexes for early detecting driver's inattention in the future.

The subject matter of this paper refers to vibroacoustic measurements of high power transformers. The evaluation method of the transformer technical condition, based on the measurements of mechanical vibrations of its tub, is characterized. The elements of the measuring set-up, which were used during the registration of the signals coming from the core and winding vibrations of a given transformer unit, transferred by the tub, are presented. Based on the criterion values of the vibroacoustic parameters measured: root-mean-square value of the vibration acceleration and the vibration spectrum amplitude in the frequency range from 0 to 3000 Hz, the evaluation of the technical condition of the power appliance under study was carried out.

The paper presents the measurement results of the noise level of a power transformer. The noise sources occurring in the transformer are presented, and the method applied and the measuring tools used are characterized. The measurements were taken in 29 points located around the transformer. The evaluation of noise was carried out based on the revised coefficient of the acoustic pressure level. The research work results presented enable the evaluation of the influence of the noise of the unit under study on its environment and make it easier to diagnose the degrees of wear of the fans installed in transformer coolers.

The paper presents research results of electrokinetic zeta potential that exists in the electrical double layer on the border of the solid and liquid phases. For zeta potential examination, samples in the colloid form were used, the continuous (dispersing) phase of which was constituted by dielectric liquid mixtures formed on the base of simple hydrocarbons (hexane, cyclohexane, toluene), and the solid (dispersed) phase was constituted by materials in a disintegrated form (aluminum, copper, steatite, Al-70). The measurements were taken with Zetasizer 2000 - by Malvern Instruments (UK). Volume density of charge qw on the border of the solid and liquid phases, responsible for generation of electrostatic charges, was determined based on the measured zeta potential and physicochemical properties of the liquids under study.

The paper will present the wavelet analysis results using continuous and discrete wavelet transforms of vibrations of a power transformer tub installed on the block of a conventional, thermal condensation power station. The research tests were carried out during a regular transformer operation in industrial conditions. The measurements were taken from the point of view of the evaluation of the influence of the vibrations registered on the analysis results of the acoustic emission signals generated by partial discharges that can occur in paper-oil insulation systems of power transformers. Moreover, the analyses carried out were supplemented with the research results obtained in laboratory conditions during the measurements taken in the high-voltage testing station of high-voltage power appliances. The influence of the loosened screws fastening the lid of the transformer tub on the time-frequency analysis results obtained of the vibrations registered was investigated. Moreover, the range of the research work carried out referred to the evaluation of the influence of the changes of the pressure force of the metal plates forming the transformer core on the vibration measurement results were obtained. In summary, the evaluation of usefulness was presented and the range of the time-frequency analysis application possibilities, and especially wavelet transforms, in diagnostics of power transformers using the acoustic methods was characterized.
