A New Task-Space Neural Nonlinear control Approach for Robotic Manipulators under Joint Constraints

Robotic manipulators are nonlinear systems with multi-input multi-output (MIMO) structures, uncertainties, and time-varying dynamical prospects. Unexpected influences of internal and external disturbances along with physical constraints in complicated kinematic configurations are large barriers for deriving excellent controllers of the manipulators. In this paper, we propose a novel two-level control approach to drive the end-effector of robotic manipulators following referenced profiles within the hard bounds of joint angles without using inverse kinematics solutions. A new Cartersian-based high-level sub controller is designed for calculating the desired angular velocities from the task-space control objective throughout a constrained-to-free transformation operator. An advanced sliding mode control framework is adopted to construct the low-level control layer to realize the indirect joint-control missions given from the upper one within the physical bounds. To effectively suppress the dynamical internal and external disturbances, a new neural network with a flexible nonlinear learning law is integrated in the joint-space sub controller. Stability of the whole system including both Cartersian and joint spaces is thoroughly proven by a Lyapunov function under a special constraint. The designed controller was verified on a two-link planar robotic arm in various challenging conditions and in comparing with other state-of-the-art control methods. The in-depth simulation results exhibited that the proposed control algorithm possesses outperformance working abilities such as model-free adaptation, robustness, high accuracy and comprehensiveness. © 2013 IEEE.

This paper proposes a robust identification and control-based on a neural network method for a Twin Rotor Multivariable System (TRMS) using a recursive adaptive training algorithm. The algorithm is based on a recursive least squares approach with an additional steepest descent stage. An Adaline neural network is used for modeling the system, and a robust structure is selected based on a linear auto-regressive structure with exogenous inputs (ARX) related to the estimation error. The identification is performed online and the system is controlled under a polynomial structure by pole placement with a dead-beat strategy. The method is evaluated in terms of estimation and tracking error in the presence of external additive disturbances, parametric disturbances, and sinusoidal reference signals. The Root-Mean Square Error (RMSE) is used to evaluate the estimation performance and the Integral-Time Absolute Error (ITAE) is used to evaluate the tracking performance. As a result, a novel robust controller based on a neural network is designed where the best results are obtained for a training recursive least squares algorithm with an additional steepest descent stage. © 2024, International Association of Engineers. During the last few years, there has been a growing interest in the topic of using natural or synthetic esters as an alternative to mineral oils in oil transformers due to the easier way to obtain them and their ability to exhibit better electrical properties. In addition, more and more researchers are describing in their work that doping esters with nanoparticles is capable of further improving these properties. Therefore, in the current work, it was decided to see what effect the addition of a hydrophobic carbon shell iron nanoparticle to ORLEN mineral oil and Midel 7131 synthetic ester would have on selected electrical parameters of the insulating fluid, i.e. breakdown voltage and electrical strength. © 2023 IEEE.

Multivariable Nonlinear control based on Exact Feedback Linearization with Integral Action for a PMSM

This paper introduces a novel approach for linear quadratic optimal control design for a nonlinear control structure based on a feedback linearization method and applied over permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). The design of the proposed approach is developed by considering rotational speed, direct and quadrature currents as state variables. To achieve accurate tracking of the desired rotational speed, an additional nonlinear controller with integral action is implemented, also employing the exact feedback linearization method, and since the reference for the quadrature current is selected as zero only regulation is required. Consequently, a multivariable nonlinear controller is achieved using exact feedback linearization, offering robustness against external disturbances like torque load. The proposed method is assessed through simulations on a PMSM motor, and the speed reference tracking performance is analyzed with and without integral action. An additional comparison is carried out by incorporating a pole placement technique into the controller design. The proposed exact feedback linearization approach with integral action and linear quadratic control, demonstrates superior performance over other methods in terms of disturbance rejection, control effort and speed tracking. © 2024, International Association of Engineers. The aim of this article is to analyze the impact of adaptive histogram equalization of the human eye OCT B-scans on the effectiveness of the classification of pathological changes. Tests were performed on two datasets. The first dataset contains 4 class B-scans (CNV, DME, DRUSEN, and NORMAL) taken with the use of Spectralis Heidelberg device, while the second dataset contains images from two devices (Spectralis Heidelberg OCT and Avanti Optovue OCT) and additionally contains the VMT (i.e., vitreomacular traction) class. The images were subjected to standard histogram equalization and contrast limited adaptive histogram equalization (CLAHE) with various parameters. The classification process was carried out using VGG16 artificial neural network. It can be observed that histogram equalization has no significant impact on improving classification performance. © 2024 Division of Signal Processing and Electronic Systems, Poznan University of Technology (DSPES PUT).

This work presents a comprehensive study of the application of multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL) based on deep Q-networks (DQN), aiming to enhance the cooperation and coordination of multiple agents in complex environments. The core problem addressed is the multi-agent traveling salesman problem, i.e. the effective collaboration and target-reaching by multiple agents. This challenge is inherently present in a variety of applications, including inspection and maintenance tasks based on autonomous aerial robotic systems. The research delves into the intricacies of multi-agent systems, emphasizing the dynamic interaction between agents and the environment. Although the proposed algorithm is developed and trained in a planar space, its principles and methodologies are easily extendable to any operational environment. The proposed approach is capable of training on a number of different scenarios, using various numbers of agents and targets, regardless of their initial positions, making it highly adaptable to scenarios like aerial inspections, where the number of agents, the number of inspection sites and their locations are unknown a priori. Furthermore, the work outlines how the enhanced DQN algorithm can be tailored for scenarios with numerous autonomous agents and targets, ensuring efficient path planning and target acquisition in constrained and unstructured spaces. This work also provides a solid foundation for future research in integrating advanced reinforcement learning techniques into the design and operational strategies for solving tasks, which can be described by the multi-agent traveling salesman problem, including inspection and maintenance with an autonomous multi-agent system. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

This paper presents an initial study of Wireless Power Transfer systems design for Industrial Mobile Robots. Prerequisite for all industrial applications is that it shall be able to perform constantly, whereas currently the Industrial Mobile Robots must stop at fixed location to charge batteries. The time that robots are unutilized therefore should be minimized, to which we propose possible solutions. The designs apply an additional, intermediate energy buffer that increases the maximum applicable current. The proposed systems are split in two categories based on location, the first is a fixed, stationary type and the second is a type of phased array system built-in the plant floor. © 2023 IEEE.

The hand-eye calibration problem represents a major challenge in robotics, arising from the widespread usage of robotic systems along with robot-mounted sensors. Briefly, consisting of estimating the position and orientation of a visual sensor (usually a camera attached to the robot’s end-effector) with respect to the robot itself, calibration is critical in tracking rigid bodies—a common task within mixed reality applications. Hand-eye calibration implies solving the problem formulated as AX = XB or AX = YB equations. The solution lies in computing the unknown homogeneous transformation matrices X and Y, given the A and B parameterizations of rigid body motions. We present the dual vectors based approaches for AX = XB and AX = YB calibration problems, making use of the isomorphism between the special Euclidean group and the orthogonal dual tensor group. In the paper the problem of modeling of thermal processes in microcontroller system is addressed. The proposed models allow to describe thermal processes during work of an evaluation system. The temperature in critical places of the system is measured using thermal camera. The proposed models have the form of hybrid transfer functions, containing both Integer Order (IO) and Fractional Order (FO) parts. The step responses of the proposed transfer functions are computed analytically. Results of experiments show that the proposed models are more accurate in the sense of Mean Square Error (MSE) cost function than typical transfer function models with delay. In the paper the numerical estimation of the internal positivity of the model of a two dimensional heat transfer process is addressed. The considered thermal process is described by the fractional order state equation, derived from parabolic heat equation with homogenous Neumann boundary conditions and distributed control and observation. Two numerical algorithms of the positivity testing are proposed and compared. The first one consists in the full examination of the whole area. The next one uses Monte Carlo method. From tests it can be concluded that the considered model can be internally positive only for its lower orders and heating and measurements located closely to the corner of the tested area. The use of the Monte Carlo method allows to significantly shorten the duration of computations. The presented results can be useful in measurements using a thermal camera. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
