This research presents a comprehensive analysis of quadrotor stabilization and trajectory tracking control using Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) and Sliding Mode control (SMC) with integrated disturbance rejection. The nonlinear dynamics of the quadrotor are formulated using the Newton-Euler approach, accounting for six degrees of freedom. The PID controller is implemented as a baseline, while the SMC is designed for enhanced robustness to model uncertainties and external perturbations, with a disturbance observer for managing time-varying disturbances. A rigorous Lyapunov stability proof ensures global asymptotic stability of the SMC-controlled system. Extensive simulations evaluate both controllers in terms of tracking accuracy, control effort, and robustness to external disturbances. Results show that SMC outperforms PID in dis-turbance rejection, tracking accuracy, and robustness, making it ideal for UAV applications in complex environments.

Integrated energy system is a useful tool for achieving the"dual-carbon"goal. In order to explore the demand-side adjustable potential of the comprehensive energy system for lowering carbon emissions, this paper proposes an optimal operation model that accounts for demand response under a carbon trading mechanism. Initially, the demand response is classified into two categories based on the characteristics of the load response. Additionally, a carbon trading mechanism is built for the integrated energy system by allocating the carbon emission quotas for the system using the baseline technique, which is free of charge. The actual carbon emissions from the gas turbine and gas boiler are also taken into account. Ultimately, a low-carbon optimization operation model of the integrated energy system is established, with the goal of minimizing the total cost of energy purchase, carbon trading, and operation and maintenance. The suggested model's validity is then confirmed through four types of typical scenarios.

In this work, a method for hierarchical hybrid linear-nonlinear microgrid control is proposed based on nonlinear primary control and linear secondary control. The nonlinear controller is an Extended Feedback Linearization method, and the linear controller is a PID structure. The proposed method is evaluated in several scenarios to validate its performance to disturbances and island operation mode. To this end, three units of distributed generation are included: Photo-Voltaic Energy Sources, Energy Storage Systems, and Small-Hydro-Power Sources. The results are simulated over a DC microgrid that contains three different distributed generation units with disturbances and island operation mode. As a result, the proposed approach's robustness is validated for several cases, where the advantage of a hierarchical linear-nonlinear structure is shown. © 2021. All Rights Reserved.

Nonasymptotic Regret Analysis of Adaptive Linear Quadratic control with Model Misspecification

The strategy of pre-training a large model on a diverse dataset, then fine-tuning for a particular application has yielded impressive results in computer vision, natural language processing, and robotic control. This strategy has vast potential in adaptive control, where it is necessary to rapidly adapt to changing conditions with limited data. Toward concretely understanding the benefit of pre-training for adaptive control, we study the adaptive linear quadratic control problem in the setting where the learner has prior knowledge of a collection of basis matrices for the dynamics. This basis is misspecified in the sense that it cannot perfectly represent the dynamics of the underlying data generating process. We propose an algorithm that uses this prior knowledge, and prove upper bounds on the expected regret after T interactions with the system. In the regime where T is small, the upper bounds are dominated by a term that scales with either poly(log T) or √T, depending on the prior knowledge available to the learner. When T is large, the regret is dominated by a term that grows with δT, where δ quantifies the level of misspecification. This linear term arises due to the inability to perfectly estimate the underlying dynamics using the misspecified basis, and is therefore unavoidable unless the basis matrices are also adapted online. However, it only dominates for large T, after the sublinear terms arising due to the error in estimating the weights for the basis matrices become negligible. We provide simulations that validate our analysis. Our simulations also show that offline data from a collection of related systems can be used as part of a pre-training stage to estimate a misspecified dynamics basis, which is in turn used by our adaptive controller. © 2023, CC BY.

In this paper, an optimal proportional integral derivative (PID) controller based on a linear quadratic regulator (LQR) is proposed for the regulation of the output voltage of a buck converter. Specifically, the work proposes to determine the gains of the PID controller through an LQR state feedback technique, formulated as a Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI), which allows for ensuring stability and guarantee a predefined performance index. Simulation results using PSIM are presented validating the theoretical study. © 2023 IEEE.

Under the umbrella of non-cooperative game theory, we formulate a transactive energy framework to model and control energy communities comprised of heterogeneous agents including (yet not limited to) prosumers, energy storage systems, and energy retailers. The underlying control task is defined as a generalized Nash equilibrium problem (GNEP), which must be solved in a distributed fashion. To solve the GNEP, we formulate a Gauss-Seidel-type alternating direction method of multipliers algorithm, which is guaranteed to converge under strongly monotone pseudo-gradient mappings. As such, we provide sufficient conditions on the private cost and energy pricing functions of the community members, so that the strong monotonicity of the overall pseudo-gradient is ensured. Finally, the proposed framework and the effectiveness of the solution method are illustrated through a numerical simulation.

A method for diagnosing unsteady modes of electrohydraulic complex electromechanical systems based on monitoring of energy processes as part of the variable-frequency electric drive of the pump has been developed. It is based on the analysis of instantaneous power derivatives and its amplitude-frequency characteristics at all elements of the energy channel. Diagnostic signs of the identification of emergency modes have been determined and a set of organizational and technical measures has been formulated to prevent the development of an unsteady mode by using hydrodynamic and cavitation protection devices, active energy absorbers and devices for reducing dynamic loads in pipeline networks. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper investigates selective power transfer between users located in a power distribution line by the implementation of a multifrequency bus. Multifrequency power distribution implies the generation of additional power channels on the same distribution bus by combining two or more power transfers at different frequencies. To analyze the feasibility of this proposal, a point-to-point power transfer using a second frequency power channel in a power distribution line is proposed. To do that, an AC switching power source is required to inject that power in the grid, and an AC switching power sink to extract it and deliver it to the receiver load. Essentially, AC switching power injectors and extractors have the same circuit that consists of two inverters, one behaving as a voltage-source/sink and the other working as a current-source/sink. A proof-of-concept demonstrator is being developed to test the operation of the injector/extractor conversion block and the performance of the multifrequency bus at grid’s third harmonic.

This paper introduces a novel approach for state-space representation of linear time invariant (LTI) systems, so-called Future Inputs Elimination (FIE) method. It can be applied to single-input-single-output (SISO) or multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) systems, continuous-time or discrete-time systems, whose dynamic equations are coupled or separated (uncoupled) in terms of their inputs and outputs. The FIE method closely parallels to the controllable canonical method when restricted to a class of SISO LTI systems. Moreover, it retains an easy implementation and effortless computation even for a class of MIMO LTI systems. The proposed approach may be used for representation of LTI systems with multiple or complex-conjugate poles. Many representative numerical examples are provided in order to illustrate the effectiveness of the elimination state-space method for representation of both SISO and MIMO LTI systems.

In the present paper, we investigate the impact of imperfections (non-idealities) of the energy storage system (e.g., batteries, capacitors, or supercapacitors) on the energy performance of green IoT nodes. In particular, we investigate the impact of energy leakage from the Energy Storage System (ESS) on important energy performance metrics, such as service outage probability, the density of the lifetime of the node, and the time-dependent mean number of energy packets (EPs) in the ESS. Also, we explore various strategies that can be employed to compensate for the impact of energy losses due to energy leakage on the energy performance metrics. Specifically, we examine two potential strategies for improving the energy performance of the IoT nodes: (i) through increasing the energy generation rate of the energy harvesters (e.g., by adding additional solar panels or replacing the existing solar panels with more efficient ones that can produce more energy), and (ii) through reducing the energy consumption rate of the IoT node (e.g., by configuring ESS energy thresholds below which the nodes are forced to operate in low energy consumption states).
