This paper presents a new method based on the block-pulse operator(BPO) for identifying unknown parameters in distributed parameter systems(DPS). The basic idea of the method is to convert the identification problem of the DPS in original function space into that of the algebraic systems in image space of the BPO. With the BPO, this method can deal with a variety of types of the DPS and it leads to the recursive algorithm of identification parameters. The algorithm has a simple form and very convenient for computation. Computational examples are given to illustrate the application of this method in the first order DPS and the second order DPS.

In particular the relationship between asymptotic stability, the zeros of the characteristic polynomial and the 2-D Lyapunov equation is considered. System Identification concerns the problem of building mathematical models of a dynamical system from measured input-output data. In this paper we examine some aspects of this problem. Typical sets of models are displayed and basic principles for fitting them to data are discussed. Asymptotic properties of the resulting model are also quoted. Die Systemidentifizierung beschäftigt sich mit dem Problem, mathematische Modelle von dynamischen Systemen aufgrund am Ein- und Ausgang des Systems gemessener Daten aufzustellen. In vorliegendem Beitrag werden einige Aspekte dieses Problems untersucht, typische Modellklassen vorgesttellt sowie die Grundprinzipien zur Anpassung dieser Modellklassen an die gegebenen Daten diskutiert. Schließlich werden asymptotische Eigenschaften des sich ergebenden Gesamtmodells aufgeführt. L'identification de système concerne le probléme d'établir des modèles mathématiques de systèmes dynamiques à partir des données d'entrée-sortie mesurées. Dans cet article, nous examinons certains aspects de ce problème. Des ensembles typiques de modèles sont présentés et les principes de base pour les adapter aux discutés. Les propriétés asymptotiques du modèle résultant sont également citées.

This paper presents a method of identification of nonlinear system with unknown time varying parameters "based on an idea of orthogonal approximation of function. Here, block pulse functions are chosen as the orthogonal set. The systems discussed are bilinear system, polynomial system and the two above mentioned systems with time-delay. The method gives recursive algorithms of identification of time varying parameters, and is not only computationally much simpler f but also allows higher numerical accuracy. The robustness of non-linear regulators for nonlinear systems with respect to variations in gain is investigated. It is shown that there exist regulators that produce asymptotically stable closed loop systems but do not tolerate any variation in gain without instability. However, if the linearized closed loop system is also asymptotically stable, then there is always some gain margin. For a wide class of optimal regulators it is shown that the gain margin is infinite with respect to increases in gain and that decreases down to 0.5 can be tolerated. The robustness properties of linear quadratic control laws are thus generalized.

Several methods for the identification of linear multivariable continuous-time systems from the samples of input-output data are discussed. These include three new methods proposed by the authors. The suitability of these methods for estimating the parameters of the system using recursive least-squares algorithm is compared using a simulated example. The results indicate that the best results are obtained using the block pulse function method as proposed by the authors.
