PS-IPS: Deploying Intrusion Prevention System with machine learning on programmable switch

Intrusion prevention is significant to avoid device damage and financial losses. Researchers have proposed various Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS) to prevent malware, including traditional and SDN-based IPS. However, existing IPSs suffer from low throughput problems caused by detection and rule-installation delays. Here, we propose a programmable switch-base IPS (named PS-IPS), which utilizes the switch CPU and pipeline to detect malware. PS-IPS consists of four main components: (1) parser, (2) flow filter, (3) recirculation director, and (4) malware detector. According to the experiment, PS-IPS achieves a 183X throughput than the SDN-based IPS. The response time of PS-IPS is also reduced by 99.99%, showing that PS-IPS effectively prevents malware with a single programmable switch. © 2023

The need for efficient energy management solutions has never been more pressing in an era of rising energy consumption and increased environmental awareness. By creating a cutting-edge Energy Management System (EMS) that not only allows users to lower their energy costs but also promotes a healthier environment, this project aims to address this urgent problem. This system's foundation is an Internet of Things (IoT) infrastructure that makes use of Wi-Fi and PIC microcontrollers. This IoT system makes it possible to seamlessly control a variety of endpoints, ensuring optimal energy usage. To balance usage with demand and availability, devices are prioritized according to user preferences and the availability of energy sources. Additionally, by developing a user interface, this project aims to improve the user experience. Users can interact with the energy management system, which offers real-time insights into energy consumption and device control. Users can easily monitor, control, and tailor their preferences for energy use. which encourages greater engagement and control. © 2025 IEEE.

Persistent memory (PM) has emerged as a promising technology that enables data structures to preserve their consistent state after recovering from system failures. Detectable data structures have been proposed to detect the response of the last operation of a crashed process. Various lock-free detectable and recoverable concurrent data structures have been developed in the literature. However, designing detectable lock-based structures is challenging due to the need to preserve the correctness properties of the underlying locks, such as mutual exclusion and deadlock-freedom, across failures. Therefore, lock-based detectable and persistent data structures are not as common as lock-free structures. In this work, we introduce DULL: a fast, scalable and Detectable Unrolled Lock-based Linked list. This paper presents the design and implementation of DULL, along with an evaluation of its recoverability and scalability. Experimental Results show that DULL is several-fold faster than the competition in all workloads that involve updates. Moreover, as opposed to some of the previous works, our algorithm is scalable when the multiprocessor is oversubscribed. DULL is a demonstration of the feasibility of using lock-based data structures with detectability in PM environments. We believe that DULL opens up new research directions for designing and analyzing detectable lock-based data structures. © Ahmed Fahmy and Wojciech Golab.

Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) has emerged as a fundamental modulation technique in modern broadband wireless communication systems, effectively addressing challenges arising from dispersive channels and random fading phenomena. By employing orthogonal subcarrier frequencies, OFDM enables the simultaneous transmission of multiple in-formation symbols, thereby mitigating Inter-Symbol Interference (ISI) often encountered in scenarios characterized by multi-path propagation. In contrast to traditional Frequency Division Multiplexing (FDM) methods, OFDM eliminates the need for guard bands between adjacent frequency bands, thereby improving spectral efficiency for high-speed data transmission. This paper conducts an extensive analysis of Zero Forcing (ZF) and Minimum Mean Squared Error (MMSE) equalizers in wireless Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) systems employing BPSK, QPSK, and 16-PSK modulations. Lever-aging MATLAB-based simulations, diverse configurations involving multiple transmit and receive antennas are explored, yielding insightful findings concerning output Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) and Bit Error Rate (BER). Our study underscores the efficacy of OFDM-MIMO systems with equalizers in enhancing communication performance across a spectrum of wireless scenarios, offering valuable insights for both theoretical exploration and practical implementation. © 2024 ACM.

This article presents an initial solution based selective harmonic elimination (SHE) method for multilevel inverter (MLI) that aims to solve SHE problem with high accuracy while significantly reducing the number of iterations. Initial SHE solution is defined as a set of initial switching angles that has less accuracy as compared to the final SHE solution. To find initial SHE solution, tunicate swarm algorithm (TSA), grey wolf optimization (GWO) and whale optimization (WO) are used to solve five-dimensional SHE problem. A comparative analysis demonstrates that TSA achieved the desired initial SHE solution within lesser iterations as compared to GWO and WO for a wide range of modulation indices. The initial switching angles found using TSA are further optimized using Newton-Raphson (NR) method being the proposed TSANR method, which exploits the SHE search space with quadratic rate of convergence to find final SHE solution. The proposed TSANR method significantly minimizes the computational time and further improves the accuracy of the SHE solution as compared to the state-of-the-art SHE methods. Detailed simulations, experimental and harmonic analysis under dynamic change in modulation index are presented to show the efficacy of the proposed SHE method in terms of control over fundamental and detrimental harmonics. © 2017 CPSS.

On the Capacity of Communication Channels With Memory and Sampled Additive Cyclostationary Gaussian Noise

In this work we study the capacity of interference-limited channels with memory. These channels model non-orthogonal communications scenarios, such as the non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) scenario and underlay cognitive communications, in which the interference from other communications signals is much stronger than the thermal noise. Interference-limited communications is expected to become a very common scenario in future wireless communications systems, such as 5G, WiFi6, and beyond. As communications signals are inherently cyclostationary in continuous time (CT), then after sampling at the receiver, the discrete-time (DT) received signal model contains the sampled desired information signal with additive sampled CT cyclostationary noise. The sampled noise can be modeled as either a DT cyclostationary process or a DT almost-cyclostationary process, where in the latter case the resulting channel is not information-stable. In a previous work we characterized the capacity of this model for the case in which the DT noise is memoryless. In the current work we come closer to practical scenarios by modelling the resulting DT noise as a finite-memory random process. The presence of memory requires the development of a new set of tools for analyzing the capacity of channels with additive non-stationary noise which has memory. Our results show, for the first time, the relationship between memory, sampling frequency synchronization and capacity, for interference-limited communications. The insights from our work provide a link between the analog and the digital time domains, which has been missing in most previous works on capacity analysis. Thus, our results can help improving spectral efficiency and suggest optimal transceiver designs for future communications paradigms. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

The basis of human existence, agriculture is essential to the continued existence of humanity. Accurate and efficient agricultural control technology ensure the welfare of people in the world. There are still difficult and urgent agricultural issues, and traditional methods of controlling agricultural output are labor and time-intensive. Agricultural systems can be challenging to control using traditional control technology due to their complexity, variability, and unpredictability. Model predictive control (MPC) techniques enable rolling optimization in a constrained time domain, which increases precision, and can provide very accurate control actions with moderate complexity. The differential drive robot trajectory tracking to the minimum error using a mathematical model that controls kinematics and dynamics without coordinate transformation is the subject of this paper. A single state-space linear model is derived by augmenting the dynamic and kinematic models. Constraints on manipulated and controlled variables are considered in the control scheme. To show the performance of the controller, time domain specifications and error evaluation were implemented using MATLAB software and findings are examined critically. The tuning parametrs used in model predictive controller (MPC) design were prediction horizon P=10, control horizon m=5 and a sample time of 0.1 s. The study demonstrates that, for the system under investigation, the suggested MPC controller is more consistent and powerful to changes in internal parameters as well as external disturbances. Agriculture is a vital industry for the people of Indonesia, but there are several obstacles, including limited space in urban areas and inefficient conventional sorting and harvesting methods. Using computer vision to choose hydroponic lettuce that is ready to be harvested and a robotic arm to bring the selected lettuce yields, the produced system aims to solve this problem. The system's computer vision algorithms include color space conversion, intensity transformation, and an algorithm for following borders. This project's research methodology combines a quantitative approach with an experimental approach, which consists of conducting several trials on the built system. Several trials demonstrated that the computer vision software was able to accomplish the specified objectives. The average success rate of the developed computer vision system is 93%, while the average success rate of the robot arm is 85%. © 2023 IEEE.

Optimal Design of a Planning and Contracting Framework to Enable Vehicle to Building and Grid Services via Demand Response

Bidirectional electric vehicle (EV) charging enables stored energy to reduce peak loads for vehicle to buildings (V2Bs) and the vehicle to grid (V2G). However, building owners investing in V2B infrastructure while generating revenue from V2G services face challenges in planning and coordinating with EV owners due to uncertainties in their schedules and profit-sharing expectations. Additionally, misaligned building and grid peak times can create conflicts between V2B and V2G goals, which may negatively impact the building electricity bill. Unlike previous studies that used a contract-free approach for aggregating V2B and V2G, resulting in inconsistent participation, this article proposes a novel planning and contracting framework that enables building owner to determine the optimal contract parameters with EV owners. These parameters include minimum participation time in DR events, minimum arrival state of charge (SoC), and permitted emergency departure hours. The framework supports V2B aggregation with on-site distributed energy resources (DERs) for DR and V2G services, ensuring transparency and fairness through shared profits and performance-based penalties, while compensating building electricity bills due to V2G activities. The framework is composed of a tri-stage optimization process that uses Monte Carlo simulations to generate EV owner profit assessments, select optimal EV candidates based on charger availability, estimate contract parameters with profit/penalty sharing, and assign contracts between power system operators (PSOs), building owners, and EV owners under multiple virtual scenarios. Simulation results validate the contract parameter assessment and its performance via a 3-day case study with real-world datasets that demonstrates net revenue generation of {\} 209 for each EV owner and {\} 950 for building owners during DR events with a return on investment (ROI) of 134.5% and 130.7% for the EVs and Building owners, respectively. © 2015 IEEE.

In this paper, we present a technique to estimate the radar reflectivity data and rainfall measurements from rain gauges to predict the radar reflectivity (Z) and rainfall rate (R), Z-R relationship. To investigate the most appropriate Z-R relationship that applicable to Malaysian weather radar, radar reflectivity was analyzed by operating 2.87GHz of Terminal Doppler Weather Radar (TDWR) at Malaysian KLLA radar station and rainfall rate was measured at different points nearby the radar. An observation data in vertical distributions is applied by using pseudo-RHI (range height indicator) and the data processing method is presented in this work. Initial observations between the published Z-R relationship using radar data and rain gange measurements are also demonstrated in this article. By using inappropriate relationship can lead to inaccuracies in estimating radar rainfall values. © 2024 IEEE.
