Although Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) have established a solid place for themselves in different applications, their mysterious inner working impedes their usage in sensitive applications. Interpretability-based methods try to overcome this issue by providing explanations for the models. Saliency Guided Training (SGT) is such method that directs the model's focus toward the most relevant features. This technique enhances the clarity of saliency maps, aiding in a better understanding of the model's decision-making. This research investigates the robustness SGT algorithm against adversarial attacks. Although saliency-guided training promises enhanced interpretability for a reliable application of DNNs, our investigation shows that this method increases the model's vulnerability against adversarial attacks. This study underscores the pressing necessity for researchers to achieve an equilibrium between clarity of interpretation and defense against adversarial interventions. Also, the outcome shows a need for attention when deploying saliency-based DNNs in different applications. We employ diverse architectures such as a conventional CNN, ResNet-18, and the Tiny Transformer on popular datasets such as MNIST, CIFAR-10, CIFAR-100, and Caltech101 to substantiate our conclusion. © 2024 IEEE.

A 4-Port Broadband High-Isolated MIMO Antenna for Wireless Communication

This article proposes a versatile Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) antenna designed for contemporary wireless systems spanning frequencies from 3 to 20 GHz. It serves applications such as 5G mobile, WiFi, WiFi-6E, X-band, partial Ku, and K-band. The original single-element antenna evolves into a 4 × 4 MIMO configuration with optimized ground plane modifications for enhanced performance. A decoupling structure achieves over 20 dB isolation between inter-elements. The feeding structure, featuring a gradually changing design connected to the antenna’s radiating structure, achieves wide bandwidth characteristics. This is further improved by a partial ground structure and slots on the radiating element. The lower frequency band of 3 to 7 GHz is attained with a rectangle-shaped radiator, while semi-circular microstrip lines atop the radiator enable the higher frequency bands of 8 to 15.4 and 18.7 to 20 GHz. The slots and ground structure enhance impedance bandwidth, and semicircles improve the radiation pattern. The MIMO antenna demonstrates measured peak gains of 6.23 dBi at 11.5 GHz, maintaining a radiation efficiency exceeding 80%. Validation through metrics like ECC, DG, CCL, and TARC confirms strong agreement between simulated and experimental results, positioning the MIMO antenna as a robust choice for various wireless communication applications. © 2024, Electromagnetics Academy. This paper (in the absence of exogenous disturbances) proposes an approach that stabilizes nonlinear multiple time scale systems. First, a general class of nonlinear systems containing a finite number of subsystems is considered, and a cyclic-small-gain theorem is proposed. Next, a controller design approach is introduced and an existence theorem is expressed. After that, by considering a general class of nonlinear multiple time scale systems, it is shown that the application of the proposed method will be independent of the positive values of the perturbation parameters. This result means that the perturbation parameters can be removed in the design procedure. But, in the closed-loop system, the equations without inherent perturbation parameters can be multiplied by additional perturbation parameters, and all perturbation parameters can take any positive values. Finally, the proposed approach is applied to the angular velocities system of the coupled satellites in a loop. It stabilizes the system globally exponentially for any positive values of the perturbation parameters. © 2024 IEEE.

Searching for a topic on the internet exposes the user to a large amount of textual data. Reviewing all these documents is not feasible in terms of time. Text summarization is one of the active areas in the field of natural language processing. This area is divided into two main categories: extractive and abstractive. Extractive summarization identifies informative and salient sentences from the text and outputs them as the result. Abstractive summarization paraphrases the text and generates a summary with new sentences. Various methods have been proposed for both types so far, including statistical methods, machine learning-based methods, deep learning, and more recently, transformer models. The transformer model is a neural network-based architecture that has achieved promising results in various tasks in natural language processing, including extractive summarization. This paper provides a comprehensive survey of transformer-based extractive summarization models for researchers and describes the evaluation measures. © 2024 IEEE.

This study proposes a decentralized frequency scheduling method to achieve SoC balancing with no communication protocol. Since the frequency scheduling method is based on modifying droop control of inverter, to make the power output of inverter to be proportional to the SoC, the frequency output of inverter would be affected. This study considers to minimize the frequency deviation within European Norm EN50160 (±1% of the nominal value of the frequency), while also able to satisfy SoC balancing. To achieve it, we propose fuzzy logic controller to weight the value of droop coefficient ( ) instead of linear scaling in conventional frequency scheduling. The proposed method is studied in several test to show the performance and compare to conventional method. From the result, the proposed method performs better in SoC balancing, and results in better system reliability. We also study the proposed battery balancing system in various condition of PV and load profile, as well "plug and play"condition of microgrid. The proposed method can perform well in both conditions. © 2024 IEEE.

In recent times, AI and UAV have progressed significantly in several applications. This article analyzes applications of UAV with modern green computing in various sectors. It addresses cutting-edge technologies such as green computing, generative AI, future scope, and related concerns in UAV. The research investigates the role of green computing and generative AI in combination with UAVs for navigation, object recognition and tracking, wildlife monitoring, precision agriculture, rescue operations, surveillance, and UAV communication. This study examines how modern computing technologies and UAVs are being applied in agriculture, surveillance, disaster management, and other areas. The ethics of UAV and AI applications, including safety, legal frameworks, and other issues, are thoroughly investigated. Maintaining power quality is a critical challenge due to deviations in voltage, current, and frequency, which can lead to equipment malfunction. The increasing energy demand, rising fossil fuel costs, and climate concerns have accelerated the adoption of distributed generation systems like microgrids. These small-scale systems, often based on renewable energy, offer efficiency and reliability but face challenges such as power quality issues caused by nonlinear and unbalanced loads, leading to system instability. Various devices, including active and passive filters, voltage regulators, FACTS devices, dynamic voltage re-storers, and unified power quality conditioners (UPQC), have been employed to address these issues. Among these, the UPQC, which combines series and shunt active filters, has proven to be highly effective in mitigating voltage and current-related disturbances. In order to reduce power quality disturbances such as voltage swells, sags and harmonics in microgrids, this study analyzes the performance of UPQC with Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR). Simulation models for both devices were developed in MATLAB/Simulink and tested under various fault conditions. Results demonstrate that UPQC, combining series and shunt active filters, outperforms DVR in response time and mitigation capability. UPQC effectively restores voltage waveforms to sinusoidal form, reduces Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) within acceptable limits, and ensures voltage stability. The findings highlight UPQC as a robust solution for enhancing power quality in microgrids, making it highly suitable for systems with significant renewable energy integration, ensuring operational efficiency and reliability. © 2025 IEEE.

The application of virtual reality (VR) technologies during physical therapy is gaining popularity due to enhanced outcomes and increased patient engagement. However, the neurological mechanisms responsible for the observed advantages of VR devices in clinical rehabilitation are poorly understood. In this study, we attempted to quantify the changes in cortical biometrics associated with immersion in VR during a physical task. Five healthy young adults performed boxing exercises with guidance from either a VR-based game (with VR) or an instructional video (without VR). The exercises were performed either at moderate or advanced intensity levels while 64-channel electroencephalography (EEG) was recorded. This paper considers the task of estimating the principal eigenvector of a positive semi-definite matrix using the power method subjected to random row erasures at each iteration. This can be used to model applications where large matrix operations are distributed across multiple servers, some of which may fail to respond at each iteration. We analyze the simple strategy of only updating coordinates corresponding to non-erased rows, and demonstrate that, presuming a good initialization, the power method with erasures still converges exponentially fast to the principal eigenvector. The rate of convergence is governed by a modified spectral gap, which is a function of the original spectral gap and the fraction of erased rows. Accompanying numerical results validate our bounds, and demonstrate that, in certain regimes, our approach outperforms techniques such as coded computation and Oja's algorithm. © 2024 IEEE.
