In this study, we demonstrated light shift detection in a running atomic clock using the multi-photodetection method. This method enables the observation of atomic resonances with different intensities using the intensity distribution of the laser beam. As it requires only two photodiodes to detect light shifts, it is easily applicable to miniature vapor-cell-based atomic clocks such as chip-scale atomic clocks and miniature atomic clocks. © 2023 IEEE.

Giant phonon-skyrmion coupling in ferromagnet/heavy metal heterostructures

The strong impact of the strain-induced Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (SIDMI) on the magnetization dynamics of skyrmions in nanomagnetic structures is demonstrated. The effects of SIDMI are characterized by skyrmion equations (SEs) of motion and magnetoelastic (ME) equations. The study is performed on a model system of MgO/CoFe/Pt stacked on a piezoelectric substrate. The results demonstrate a major nonlinear amplification in both the first- and higher-harmonic magnitudes of the skyrmion breathing mode due to SIDMI. Remarkably, this enhancement can trigger a skyrmion collapse, enabling its deletion with ultraweak strain-induced excitations. The SIDMI effect is shown to be much more significant than the conventional ME effect. These findings open different avenues for the efficient manipulation of nanomagnetic structures through strain.

Spacecraft potential effects on low-energy ion measurements to be made by probe B1 of Comet Interceptor

Spacecraft charging causes notorious issues for low-energy plasma measurements. The charged particles are accelerated towards or repelled from the spacecraft surface, affecting both their energy and travel direction. The latter results in a distortion of the effective field of view (FOV) of the instrument making the measurements. The Comet Interceptor mission, planned to be launched in 2029, will make a flyby of a long-period or interstellar comet that ideally is dynamically new. The mission comprises one main spacecraft A, developed by the European Space Agency (ESA), and two sub-probes B1 and B2, developed by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency and ESA, respectively. The low-energy plasma measurements made by Comet Interceptor will likely be affected by the spacecraft potential in the case of low relative flyby velocities. On probe B1, the Cometary Ion Mass Spectrometer (CIMS) of the Plasma Suite is an ion mass spectrometer, capable of measuring ions with energies down to 10 eV/q. In this work, we use the Spacecraft Plasma Interaction Software to study the influence of the spacecraft potential on the low-energy ion measurements to be made by CIMS in the inner cometary magnetosphere. The results show that the effective FOV of CIMS is distorted at low energies when the flyby velocity is low. The distortion level is highly geometry dependent, and the largest distortions are caused by the magnetometer boom. Furthermore, the results show that cold ions with bulk velocities in the range 1-10 km s-1, flowing both radially away from and inward towards the nucleus, are detectable by the instrument considering the nominal observation geometry. © 2024 The Author(s).

Emotion recognition can help human-computer interactions by enabling systems to respond empathetically and adapt to users' emotional conditions. This capability improves user experience, supporting the development of a more intuitive and emotionally responsive communication system. This study analyzes a bimodal approach based on gender (male and female) to recognize emotions without contextual information in dialogue analysis. Utilizing the Multimodal EmoryNLP dataset extracted from the TV series Friends with acted speech, we focused on four primary emotions: Angry, Neutral, Joy, and Scared. The model used in this study for text classification is RoBERTa, and wav2vec 2.0 is used for audio feature extraction with the Bi-LSTM model for classification. The experiment results using weighted F1-score reveal that data augmentation enhanced the performance of analyzing the original dataset from 0.46% to 0.52% and the male dataset from 0.43% to 0.51 %. In comparison, the female dataset remained consistent at 0.46%. The weighted F1-score and Unweighted Averaged Recall (UAR) from the male dataset are higher, 51 % and 48%, respectively, than those from the female dataset, 46% and 47%, respectively. Gender-based analysis indicated that male and female datasets exhibited distinct performance patterns, highlighting variations in emotional expression and recognition between genders. These findings underscore the effectiveness of multimodal strategies in emotion recognition and suggest that gender-specific factors play a significant role in enhancing classification performance. While these results highlight performance trends, further validation through repeated trials and statistical analyses could provide stronger generalizations and insights into gender-based differences. © 2024 IEEE.

Coffee beans are one of the high-value commodities in Indonesia, but the sorting method for the quality of coffee beans still uses visual methods and sieves with mechanical machines. This study aims to provide an alternative to classifying coffee beans using Deep Learning algorithms, such as the ResNet-18 and MobileNetV2. The dataset used is USK-COFFEE which consists of two classes, the normal coffee bean class, and the defect coffee bean class. The models were trained using the balanced and imbalanced datasets, meaning that two scenarios were performed. From the results of this study, the accuracy value for the ResNet-18 model was 91.50% when trained on the balanced dataset and 90.87% on the imbalanced dataset. It outperformed the MobileNetV2 architecture, which only achieved 0.8125 and 0.8112 accuracy scores when trained on the balanced and imbalanced datasets, respectively. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.

The Internet of Drones (IoD) extends the capabilities of unmanned aerial vehicles, enabling them to participate in a connected network. In IoD infrastructure, drones communicate not only among themselves but also with users and a control center. This interconnected communication framework holds promise for various applications, from collaborative decision-making to real-time data exchange. However, the expansion of communication in IoD also introduces new challenges, particularly in terms of security, privacy and authentication. Unfortunately, the current authentication protocols are inadequate in offering robust security features against various attacks in the IoD environment. To address these security issues and limitations, we proposed a secure protocol for the IoD environment using chaotic maps and hash functions. In addition, we also employed a physically unclonable function in the development of the proposed protocol. We assess the security of the protocol through both informal and formal security analysis. The formal security analysis is conducted through a widely used random or real (RoR) model. The informal analysis shows the rigorous security features against various attacks, such as masquerading, anonymity violation, and physical cloning attacks. Moreover, we compare the performance of the devised protocol with similar existing protocols across important performance parameters, such as communication overhead, computation overhead, and security features. The devised protocol provides a 67.86% and 17.80% reduction in computation and communication overheads, respectively, as compared to related protocols. The analysis demonstrates the proposed protocol's capacity to support secure communication in the IoD environment and satisfy desirable security attributes. © 2014 IEEE.

The field of Human Activity Recognition (HAR) is growing significantly in several areas but little research focuses on cultural behavior. How machine learning can explain human activity as a promotional tool in understanding cultural differences in a region is very challenging. Studies using Recurrent Neural Network (RNN), especially Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), require large data when used to research human activity recognition. Using small data is a challenge when using LSTM. This study aims to determine which data augmentation is most appropriate when used using LSTM to predict Japanese greeting gestures, namely eshaku, keirei, saikeirei, waving hands, and Indonesian greeting gestures, namely the movement of bringing both hands together in front of the chest with a slight bow of the head. This study proposes to compare several data augmentations, namely jittering, scaling, permutation, cropping, reverse, time shifting, frequency domain, and synthetic data generation. We evaluate model performance using the Mean Squared Error (MSE), Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE), Mean Absolute Error (MAE), and coefficient of determination (R2) metrics. The experimental results show that Time Shifting has the best MSE, RMSE, and MAE values compared to others and Frequency Domain has the best R2 values compared to others. This study concludes that Time Shifting and Frequency Domain are the best data augmentation methods when using LSTM in predicting greeting gestures using small data. These findings provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of various data augmentation methods in motion prediction tasks with limited data sets, as well as the importance of selecting appropriate data augmentation methods in human motion analysis. Future work could use data from two or more people using model explanations generated by machine learning and developing a new method for cultural behavior. © 2024 IEEE.

Recently, studies related to human activity recognition have developed which have been applied in various fields. In that field Machine learning and deep learning techniques have been widely used for several classification and prediction tasks. However, the first problem is that there is rarely any research on human activities that reflect the culture of a region, such as greeting gestures. Second, there are few studies that do not provide models resulting from the classification or prediction process using machine learning, which can result in a lack of understanding of how a model from machine learning is generated. This study aims to predict Japanese greeting gestures (eshaku, keirei, saikeirei, waving hand) and Indonesian (placing both hands in front of the chest) using Light Gradient Boosting Machine (LightGBM), eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), and Gradient Boosting. Then, represent the model of the learning machine using SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) to find out how the learning machine obtain a model. Our findings show the efficacy of this method and show that the model not only predicts greeting gestures with high accuracy but also offers a transparent understanding of the factors influencing its predictions, thus enhancing the interpretability and applicability of machine learning in recognizing culturally significant human activities. In the future, we plan to use machine learning and other Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) methods to study human activities with cultural concepts such as greeting gestures in different styles, create more greeting gesture-based human activity datasets, and examine the ethical implications or considerations of using machine learning in cultural contexts to respect cultural differences. © 2024 IEEE.

The existence of fine-grained image classification supporting smart retail provides effectiveness in recognizing products with high similarity. However, the generic classification method performs poorly in identifying products from a subordinate category. This paper aims to identify augmentation techniques to leverage the Vision Transformer (ViT) model to classify the fine-grained grocery product, which involves embedding patches and transformer encoders to extract the main features. First, we develop a fine-grained image dataset with ColorJitter, CutOut, and combining both augmentations. Secondly, we perform experiments and analysis of ViT size, embedded patch size and image size in the patch embedding process. Lastly, the ViT model are evaluated according to the image sizes 224, 384, and 512 in accuracy, loss, and confusion matrix. The highest accuracy was obtained at 0.9922. The ColorJitter and CutOut improved the confusion matrix in ViT-B/16 and ViT-L/16 with an image size of 384 and 512. The results show that both augmentations in the ViT model are able to distinguish fine-grained grocery products. © 2023 IEEE.
