This paper presents a novel method for extrinsic parameters estimation of a single line scan LiDAR and a camera. Using a checkerboard, the calibration setup is simple and practical. Particularly, the proposed calibration method is based on resolving geometry of the checkerboard that visible to the camera and the LiDAR. The calibration setup geometry is described by planes, lines and points. Our novelty is a new hypothesis of the geometry which is the orthogonal distances between LiDAR points and the line from the intersection between the checkerboard and LiDAR scan plane. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, we compared our proposed method with the state of the art method i.e. Zhang and Pless [1]. The experimental results showed that the proposed method yielded better results.

The PAMELA space experiment is providing first direct observations of Solar Energetic Particles (SEPs) with energies from about 80 MeV to several GeV in near-Earth orbit, bridging the low energy measurements by other spacecrafts and the Ground Level Enhancement (GLE) data by the worldwide network of neutron monitors. Its unique observational capabilities include the possibility of measuring the flux angular distribution and thus investigating possible anisotropies associated to SEP events. The analysis is supported by an accurate back-tracing simulation based on a realistic description of the Earth's magnetosphere, which is exploited to estimate the SEP energy spectra as a function of the asymptotic direction of arrival with respect to the Interplanetary Magnetic Field (IMF). In this work we report the results for the May 17, 2012 event.

The distributed networked control systems are considered in this paper. Several sub-systems which are connected with each other through a communication network make up the whole system. Each sub-system has its own quantizer so that any information which needs be transmitted to other sub-systems will be quantized due to limited bandwidth. Meanwhile, the actuator faults, including outage, loss of effectiveness and stuck are also considered in our research. A mode-based state feedback controller is given in this paper to stable such NCSs and to meet the robust H-inf performance. A simulation example is proposed to illustrate the effectiveness of our method finally.

Network coevolution, the process of network topology evolution in feedback with dynamical processes over the network nodes, is a common feature of many engineered and natural networks. In such settings, the change in network topology occurs at a comparable time scale to nodal dynamics. Coevolutionary modeling offers the possibility to better understand how and why network structures emerge. For example, social networks can exhibit a variety of structures, ranging from almost uniform to scale-free degree distributions. While current models of network formation can reproduce these structures, coevolutionary modeling can offer a better understanding of the underlying dynamics. This paper presents an overview of recent work on coevolutionary models of network formation, with an emphasis on the following three settings: (i) dynamic flow of benefits and costs, (ii) transient link establishment costs, and (iii) latent preferential attachment.

The paper investigates the performance of a hybrid satellite-terrestrial cooperative network (HSTCN), where some terrestrial amplify-and-forward (AF) relays are employed to assist the signal transmission from a satellite to a destination, which is corrupted by multiple co-channel interferences (CCIs). In this system, the satellite links undergo Shadowing-Rician fading while the terrestrial links experience Rayleigh fading. Specifically, by assuming that maximum ratio combining (MRC) is used at the destination, we first derive the moment generating function (MGF) of the output signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR). With the help of MGF, we then present the analytical average symbol error rate (ASER) expression for the considered cooperative system. Moreover, to gain further insights, the asymptotic ASER analysis in terms of the diversity order and array gain is also developed. Finally, numerical results are given to demonstrate the validity of the performance analysis and the impacts of shadowing parameters, relay number and CCIs on the considered HSTCN.

Aiming to improve the performance of transmitted reference(TR) UWB system and mitigate external interference in multipath channel, time reversal(TiR) is employed. The BER performance of TR-UWB systems with and without TiR technology are investigated respectively, and the results imply that the SNR of TR-UWB system is improved about 10dB in multi-path channel with TiR pre-filter than that without TiR pre-filter whilst BER=1E-3. The impacts of the notch filter's parameters on performance of TiR TR-UWB system are investigated. The simulation results show that every increase of 528MHz in the width of notch filter causes 5dB degradation in the performance whilst the depth of notch filter has little influence on it. Finally, BER performance of this system with notch filter is studied in the case of MB-OFDM-UWB interference. Results indicate that with ultra-wideband notch filter technology, strong ultra-wideband interference within a bandwidth of 3×528MHz can be mitigated. For BER=1E-2, the signal-to-interference ratio(SIR) of TR-UWB improves 25dB with a notch filter comparing to that without a notch filter. The present work is expected to be useful for the design of the simple and advanced TR-UWB system. © 2013 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

The computational science community is approaching petascale level simulations that will produce massive amount of datasets. While the computational power of supercomputers keep increasing, the I/O systems have not kept pace, resulting in a significant performance bottle neck. We propose a solution, VisDSI, to address the problem by 1) using traditional high performance clusters with disks directly attached within each node, 2) deploying a data-intensive distributed file system on the cluster, and 3) developing a POSIX-compatible I/O layer to enable the traditional visualization applications to smoothly port to this new platform as well as to provide a new I/Osemantic of retrieving the data location with respect to the POSIX standards. In particular, VisDSI guarantees the colocated compute and data storage by introducing a scheduling of work assignments to nodes with local copies of needed data. Compared with the original visualization application, our solution runs at least 10 times faster.

We report the magnetic properties, microstructure and surface morphology of epitaxially grown Fe 2 CrSi films. Highly ordered B2 films were obtained by deposition at room temperature followed by annealing at 400°C. Magnetic tunnel junctions using Fe 2 CrSi show a tunnelling magnetoresistance (TMR) of 2.5%. The low TMR is ascribed to the oxidation of Fe 2 CrSi at the interface with MgO. An enhancement of TMR to 8.1% was achieved by inserting a 0.3nm Mg between Fe 2 CrSi and MgO to prevent the oxidation of Fe 2 CrSi.
