This paper investigates the effect of signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) measurement accuracy exploiting data modulated symbols in SIR-based fast closed loop transmit power control (TPC) considering the application of closed loop transmit diversity mode 1 in wideband code division multiple access (W-CDMA) system. SIR measurement is performed after removing the random data modulation so as to maximize the instantaneous received power. computer simulation results clarify the advantage of data-aided SIR measurement even in the presence of feedback information (FBI) errors. Further, we also clarified that exploiting data symbols in addition to DPCH pilot symbols exhibits better performance. The data-aided SIR measurement technique is an add-on functionality to the standardized user equipment (UE) so that the adoption shall not affect the operation of commercial systems. © 2005 IEEE.

This paper focuses on the method used for traffic control system in dilemma-zone detection. Our research systems based on a general purpose of minimizing the probability for accident that resulted from signal phase termination especially at night. This objective is accomplished by using image detectors to monitor vehicle existence in the dilemma zone and then extending the phase until the dilemma zone is cleared or until a maximum green is reached. The systems described have additional objectives that are intended to provide other safety or operational benefits. Arena simulations are used to determine the existence of vehicle in the dilemma zone. Our main goal is to instruct drivers' decision while approaching the intersection by using the traffic signal control.

This research is to propose and develop the new signal control system which is to be integrated into Malaysia Traffic System. The control system obtains information from image detectors which are installed inside the intersection;predict the future traffic flows at various levels and conditions. A dynamic network system could capture the problem of the network traffic congestions, estimates the information on each particular link (neighboring intersection), in terms of vehicles flow and traffic can be calculated. Referring to the network flow control, the information data let the system to set the parameter itself then allow the system to allocate green time for each different demand pattern and each phase. These decisions are determined not at a central system but at the intersection control system. Simulation is done to find any difficulty of the system.

The stringent requirements on size and power consumption constrain the conventional hearing aid devices from providing the patients an economic and user friendly solution, specifically for better noise cancellation. With the advancements in technologies such as integrated circuits design, wireless communications and digital signal processing techniques, the wireless hearing aids having multi-microphones, analog, digital and mixed signals and radio frequency signals processing circuits, DSP and programmable units seem to be promising to provide enhanced performance. The focus of this paper is about the system simulation of a typical wireless hearing aid using Agilent Advanced Design System™. The behavioral modeling features are exploited to enable the whole system simulations including electro-acoustic transducers. A few system level simulation results are included. © 2005 IEEE.

A study of thermal chemical vapor deposition (CVD) grown carbon nanotubes (CNTs) field emitters in a triode amplifier configuration is reported. The CNT transistor characteristics were examined by integrating gate and anode with CNT cathode in two structural forms, utilizing a TEM grid (transmission electron microscope specimen holder) as the gate electrode and a micropatterned CNT with self-aligned gate. The TEM-grid CNT triode displayed clearly gate-controlled current modulation behavior with distinct cutoff, linear, and saturation regions, and a reasonable gate turn-on field of ∼5.4V∕μm despite a large cathode-gate spacing of ∼120μm . The field emission result established the basic transistor characteristics of CNTs in a triode configuration. A CNT triode construct with a self-aligned gated fabrication technique was also developed to realize a monolithic triode structure with shorter gate-cathode spacing, lowering gate voltage, and enhancing emission current. The triode exhibited a significantly lower gate turn-on voltage of ∼40V , and gate-controlled modulation of the emission current. An anode current density of ∼30mA∕cm2 was achieved at a gate voltage of ∼80V and an anode voltage of ∼200V . The dc characteristics for both of the CNT triodes were investigated, including Ia versus Va for different Vg . Moreover, dc parameters such as transconductance, amplification factors, and anode resistance of the triode amplifier were determined. The CNT triodes exhibited useful amplification factor and high output impedance.

Semi-analytical models are used to simulate the response of periodic-field electro quasistatic dielectrometry sensors. Due to the periodic structure of the sensors it is possible to use Fourier series methods in combination with collocation point numerical techniques to generate accurate sensor simulations much more efficiently than with the more general finite-element methods. Previously, collocation-point models used to compute the response of periodic field dielectric sensors, also known as Interdigitated Electrode Dielectrometers (IDED), have ignored the contribution of the constant (zero-order) term in the Fourier series expansion of the physical quantities. This is justifiable if the top dielectric material layer under test is infinitely thick, with any top ground plane bounding the dielectric removed too far from the sensor to influence its response. This is the assumption generally made until now in the application of these models. In practice, however, it is impossible to eliminate the cumulative effect of objects at ground potential in the vicinity of the sensor, which in general manifests itself as a ground plane electrode positioned at some effective distance within the top dielectric layer (usually air). In order to eliminate this source of uncertainty in the measurements, we suggest that a grounded electrode be explicitly placed at the top of the dielectric layer in the experimental setup, and its presence be accounted for in the models. Furthermore, in many cases, such as measurements on ceramic thermal barrier coatings, a metal layer is already present behind the material under test. In this paper we present how the models must be modified to account for this ground plane, and what effect it has on the dependence of the sensor response on the material properties. Although wireless hearing aid systems have been proposed by several research groups, no viable whole-system simulation results have been reported so far for better evaluation of this advanced hearing device. In this paper, a system-level simulation using ADStrade is presented based on one of the typical wireless hearing aid architecture. The results show that the wireless hearing aid system function can be simulated and verified. And from these results, we can get a very promising performance which can be used for further design

We have developed a method of catalyst preparation for carbon nanotube (CNT) growth that uses solid-state diffusion to precipitate Co particles in a Cu matrix and control the size and size distribution of catalyst particles. Copper is an excellent electrical and thermal conductor, and has a small or negligible solubility for Co. Cu–Co alloys of approximately 5 atm% Co were formed in bulk by splat quenching the liquid alloy and on Si substrates by e-beam evaporation of the alloy, sputtering of the alloy, and sputter deposition of thin films of pure Cu and Co. The Co easily precipitates from dilute solutions of Cu–Co with heat treatment. These alloys and films were used to generate uniform distributions of Co precipitates, and CNTs were successfully grown by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PE-CVD) and thermal CVD on the materials. These alloys can be patterned by photolithography and sputtering in order to grow CNTs in defined locations. Therefore, the technique is amenable to very large scale silicon integration for field emission applications. The results of this work and data from field emission studies are presented herein.
