This study presents a comprehensive optimization and comparative analysis of thermoelectric(TE)infrared(IR)detec-tors using Bi_(2)Te_(3) and Si *** theoretical modeling and numerical simulations,we explored the impact of TE mate-rial properties,device structure,and operating conditions on responsivity,detectivity,noise equivalent temperature difference(NETD),and noise equivalent power(NEP).Our study offers an optimally designed IR detector with responsivity and detectivity approaching 2×10^(5) V/W and 6×10^(9) cm∙Hz^(1/2)/W,*** enhancement is attributed to unique design features,includ-ing raised thermal collectors and long suspended thin thermoelectric wire sensing elements embedded in low thermal conductivity organic materials like ***,we demonstrate the compatibility of Bi_(2)Te_(3)-based detector fabrication pro-cesses with existing MEMS foundry processes,facilitating scalability and ***,for TE IR detectors,zT/κemerges as a critical parameter contrary to conventional TE material selection based solely on zT(where zT is the thermoelec-tric figure of merit andκis the thermal conductivity).

The increasing complexity of optical communication systems and networks necessitates advanced methodologies for extracting valuable insights from vast and heterogeneous datasets. Machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) have emerged as pivotal tools in this domain, revolutionizing data analysis and enabling automated self-configuration in optical communication systems. Their adoption is fueled by the growing intricacy of systems and links, driven by numerous adjustable and interdependent parameters. This complexity is particularly evident in areas such as coherent transceivers, advanced digital signal processing, optical performance monitoring, cross-layer network optimizations, and nonlinearity compensation. While ML and DL offer immense potential, their application in optical communications is still in its early stages, with significant opportunities remaining unexplored. Many algorithms have yet to be fully deployed in practical settings, underscoring the emerging nature of this research area. This paper presents a comprehensive survey of ML and DL applications across optical fiber communication (OFC), optical wireless communication (OWC), and optical communication networking (OCN), highlighting the challenges, current advancements, and future potential of these approaches. To address the identified gaps, this survey evaluates and compares ML and DL algorithms in terms of their performance, complexity, objectives, input data, metrics, and applications in optical communication. Adopting high penetration levels of electric vehicles(EVs) necessitates the implementation of appropriate charging management systems to mitigate their negative impacts on power distribution networks. Currently, most of the proposed EV charging management techniques rely on the availability of high-bandwidth communication links. Such techniques are far from realization due to(1) the lack of utility-grade communication systems in many cases such as secondary(low-voltage) power distribution systems to which EVs are connected, rural areas, remote communities, and islands, and(2) existing fears and concerns about the data privacy of EV users and cyber-physical security. For these cases, appropriate local control schemes are needed to ensure the adequate management of EV charging without violating the grid operation requirements. Accordingly, this paper introduces a new communication-less management strategy for EV charging in droop-controlled islanded microgrids. The proposed strategy is autonomous, as it is based on the measurement of system frequency and local bus voltages. The proposed strategy implements a social charging fairness policy during periods when the microgrid distributed generators(DGs) are in short supply by allocating more system capacity to the EVs with less charging in the past. Furthermore, a novel communication-less EV load shedding scheme is incorporated into the management strategy to provide relief to the microgrid during events of severe undervoltage or underfrequency occurrences due to factors such as high loading or DG outages. Numerical simulations demonstrate the superiority of the proposed strategy over the state-of-the-art controllers in modulating the EV charging demand to counteract microgrid instability.
