This paper introduces a novel approach integrating Differential Evolution (DE) with multi-objective optimization techniques for enhancing Type-1 Takagi-Sugeno-Kang (TSK) fuzzy rule-based systems to attain both fair predictive performance and enhanced interpretability within the context of explainable artificial intelligence. The developed approach encodes the whole knowledge base into one chromosome and endeavors to concurrently optimize the prediction accuracy, the number of rules, and the selection of relevant input features. The methodology was tested on Earth observation data for the estimation of soil health parameters via infrared spectroscopy, and more concretely i) on the 2015 LUCAS topsoil dataset to predict three key soil properties (namely, soil organic carbon, clay content, and pH) from laboratory spectra, and ii) on a set of PRISMA hyperspectral images to predict soil organic carbon in a region of northern Greece. Compared to the classical Random Forest (RF) algorithm, our proposed learning algorithm attains a fair balance between accuracy and interpretability, and is statistically equivalent to RF in terms of accuracy. The findings underscore the potential of the proposed methodology in refining TSK models and its applicability in Earth observation-driven predictions, paving the way for both enhanced modeling accuracy and sparse feature selection.

This study explores the integration of Educational Robotics (ER) and the Internet of Things (IoT) in learning environments, highlighting their collective impact on educational practices. Specifically, our exploration uncovers the transformative potential of ER and IoT in fostering critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and digital literacy among students and reveals the pivotal role these technologies play in preparing learners for the demands of the digital age and Industry 4.0, while also highlighting the need for strategic implementation and teacher support. Our findings elucidate the potential of ER and IoT to innovate teaching strategies and curriculum design, serving as a guide for educational stakeholders, such as curriculum developers, educators, researchers, and policymakers, in leveraging these technologies to revolutionize instructional practices.

Changen2: Multi-Temporal remote sensing Generative Change Foundation Model

Our understanding of the temporal dynamics of the Earth’s surface has been significantly advanced by deep vision models, which often require a massive amount of labeled multi-temporal images for training. However, collecting, preprocessing, and annotating multi-temporal remote sensing images at scale is non-trivial since it is expensive and knowledge-intensive. In this paper, we present scalable multi-temporal change data generators based on generative models, which are cheap and automatic, alleviating these data problems. Our main idea is to simulate a stochastic change process over time. We describe the stochastic change process as a probabilistic graphical model, namely the generative probabilistic change model (GPCM), which factorizes the complex simulation problem into two more tractable sub-problems, i.e., condition-level change event simulation and image-level semantic change synthesis. To solve these two problems, we present Changen2, a GPCM implemented with a resolution-scalable diffusion transformer which can generate time series of remote sensing images and corresponding semantic and change labels from labeled and even unlabeled single-temporal images. Changen2 is a "generative change foundation model" that can be trained at scale via self-supervision, and is capable of producing change supervisory signals from unlabeled single-temporal images. Unlike existing "foundation models", our generative change foundation model synthesizes change data to train task-specific foundation models for change detection. The resulting model possesses inherent zero-shot change detection capabilities and excellent transferability. Comprehensive experiments suggest Changen2 has superior spatiotemporal scalability in data generation, e.g., Changen2 model trained on 2562 pixel single-temporal images can yield time series of any length and resolutions of 1,0242 pixels. Within the scope of prostate cancer diagnostic imaging, distinguishing lesions is challenging due to their subtle appearance and the prostate gland's complexity. This study employed the nnU-Net, a state-of-the-art medical image segmentation model, on a dataset of 301 patients from 2 openly available datasets to identify whether lesion sizes are affecting the model's performance. By applying t-SNE dimensionality reduction algorithm among dice score and respective lesion sizes, we found that nnU-Net behaves differently for lesions smaller than 9mm compared to lesions larger than 15mm. These insights can inform specialized training approaches for future deep learning models in prostate lesion *** Relevance: The main contributions of this study is, to investigate whether lesion sizes affects nnU-Net's deficiency leading to the development of more specialized models in respect to these factors. © 2023 IEEE.

This article presents a 17.7-20.2 GHz eight-element four-beam RF-beamforming transmitter in 65-nm CMOS for satellite communication (SATCOM). The transmitter utilizes an analog scheme in the variable-gain amplifier (VGA) to achieve dB-in-linear gain control with a high dynamic range (DR), together with a current combining crossbar for a compact footprint. The vector-modulation-based (VM-based) phase shifter (PS) adopts the cancellation-based Gm units for low switching variation. Furthermore, eight PSs of each beam are split into two groups, with each group sharing the same tunable I/Q generator for low power consumption. Considering the increased peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) caused by high-order modulation schemes and multibeam operation, the transmitter incorporates compact transformer-based Doherty power amplifiers (DPAs) with adaptive bias control to improve the power efficiency at back-off. The chip achieves a 31-dB gain-tuning range with a 0.283-dB step and a 360° phase-shifting range with a calibrated 7-bit resolution. The measured root-mean-square (RMS) phase/gain errors induced by the VGA/PS are below 2.05°/0.147 dB, respectively, which decouples phase/gain control. The transmitter achieves a maximum output 1-dB gain compression point (OP1dB) of 17.9 dBm and a maximum saturated power (Psat) of 18.9 dBm. The output element exhibits 29.3% drain efficiency (DE) at 6-dB power back off (PBO) from Psat , which is 1.56/3.12 times over the normalized class-B/class-A implementations, demonstrating Doherty PBO efficiency enhancement. The chip occupies an area of 8.59 × 4.17 mm2 and consumes 398 mW per element at OP1dB. Additionally, a 16-element linear array has been developed to showcase the capabilities of the multibeam operation and gain tapering. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

In the evolving landscape of cloud computing, federated cloud infrastructures present unique challenges and opportunities for resource and application monitoring. Monitoring the diverse array of cloud resources and applications within a federated cloud environment is crucial for delivering consistent Quality of Service (QoS) and continuous oversight across various cloud applications and infrastructure. Despite the various successes documented in the literature on multi-cloud monitoring, existing frameworks have not fully explored or provided enough insights into centralized monitoring of resources, applications, and network devices in a federated cloud environment. This paper introduces FedMonitor, an implementation architecture designed to enhance the monitoring and notification capabilities in federated cloud environments by building on the theoretical ideals in our earlier work (i.e. FEDARGOS-V1). FedMonitor leverages Prometheus and Grafana to crawl, manage and visualize metrics from diverse software services, hardware resources, and network devices within a federated cloud environment. The results demonstrate hat FedMonitor improves the effectiveness of resource and application monitoring in federated cloud environments. © 2024 IEEE.

A novel ultra-wide-band polarization selective reflectarray by using true-time delay is presented in this paper. Tightly coupled elements and the method of true-time-delay are used to broaden the bandwidth of the reflectarray. The reflectarray has the advantages of large bandwidth, polarization selective, and reduced complexity and fabrication cost. A reflectarray with the elements arranged in a 41×41 grid is designed and simulated operating from 6 to 32GHz. The measured results show that the reflectarray has stable radiation patterns from 6 to 32GHz, over 5:1 frequency range and has a low loss and high efficiency over 60 %, it also has the low cross polarization below -28dB across the entire band and has the function of polarization selectivity. © 2021 IEEE.

Recent pan-sharpening methods have predominantly utilized techniques tailored for natural image scenes, often overlooking the unique features arising from non-overlapping spectral responses. In light of this, we have reevaluated the utility of panchromatic (PAN) images and introduced a theory anchored in the spectral response of satellite sensors. This posits that a PAN image is effectively a linear weighted summation of individual bands from its corresponding multi-spectral (MS) image, offset by an error map. We developed a deep unmixing network termed "DUN"that integrates an unmixing network, a fusion mechanism, and a distinctive mutual information contrastive loss function. Notably, the unmixing network is adept at decomposing a PAN image into its MS counterpart and error map. Further, the demixed image alongside the low-resolution MS image is channeled into the fusion network for pan-sharpening. Recognizing the challenges of achieving robust supervised learning directly from the unmixing phase, we have innovated a mutual information contrastive learning loss function, ensuring enhanced separation and minimizing overlap during the unmixing process. Preliminary experiments underscore both the quantitative and qualitative prowess of the proposed method. © 2025 IEEE.
