This paper presents a novel observer-based approach to detect and isolate faulty sensors in nonlinear systems. The proposed sensor fault detection and isolation (s-FDI) method applies to a general class of nonlinear systems. Our focus is on s-FDI for two types of faults: complete failure and sensor degradation. The key aspect of this approach lies in the utilization of a neural network-based Kazantzis- Kravaris/Luenberger (KKL) observer. The neural network is trained to learn the dynamics of the observer, enabling accurate output predictions of the system. Sensor faults are detected by comparing the actual output measurements with the predicted values. If the difference surpasses a theoretical threshold, a sensor fault is detected. To identify and isolate which sensor is faulty, we compare the numerical difference of each sensor meassurement with an empirically derived threshold. We derive both theoretical and empirical thresholds for detection and isolation, respectively. Notably, the proposed approach is robust to measurement noise and system uncertainties. Nowadays, the deterioration of water resources leads to negative ecological impacts. To effectively inhibit the deterioration of water resources, a water quality prediction model based on enhanced transformer, sliding block, and channel independence (WaterTS) is proposed by comprehensively analyzing the indicators of water resources and making long-term predictions of the dissolved oxygen index. WaterTS adopts a sliding block method to extract the short-term temporal features of the water quality series and combine them with channel independence to make independent predictions of multi-featured data. Moreover, it upgrades the internal encoder structure of the transformer and improves the attention mechanism to Probsparse-attention and Auto-Correlation to speed up the prediction speed. Furthermore, Post LayerNormal is adjusted to Pre LayerNormal, which makes the training gradient more stable and enhances the accuracy of predictions. Experiments are conducted using real-world water environment data, and comparison results with state-of-the-art prediction models show that the WaterTS achieves accurate predictions on both short-term and long-term water quality data.

In mobile edge computing (MEC), task offloading can significantly reduce task execution latency and energy consumption of end user (EU). However, edge server (ES) resources are limited, necessitating efficient allocation to ensure the sustainable and healthy development for MEC system. In this paper, we propose a dynamic pricing mechanism based near-optimal resource allocation for elastic edge offloading. First, we construct a resource pricing model and accordingly develop the utility functions for both EU and ES, the optimal pricing model parameters are derived by optimizing the utility functions. In the meantime, our theoretical analysis reveals that the EU's utility function reaches a local maximum within the search range, but exhibits barely growth with increased resource allocation beyond this point. To this end, we further propose the Dynamic Inertia and Speed-Constrained particle swarm optimization (DISC-PSO) algorithm, which efficiently identifies the near-optimal resource allocation. Comprehensive simulation results validate the effectiveness of DISC-PSO algorithm, demonstrating that it significantly outperforms existing schemes by reducing the average number of iterations to reach a near-optimal solution by 86.88%, increasing the EU utility function value by 0.13%, and decreasing the variance of results by 96.78%. © 2025 IEEE. Feature-Based Aggregation and Deep Reinforcement Learning:A Survey and Some New Implementations

In this paper we discuss policy iteration methods for approximate solution of a finite-state discounted Markov decision problem, with a focus on feature-based aggregation methods and their connection with deep reinforcement learning schemes. We introduce features of the states of the original problem, and we formulate a smaller "aggregate" Markov decision problem, whose states relate to the features. We discuss properties and possible implementations of this type of aggregation, including a new approach to approximate policy iteration. In this approach the policy improvement operation combines feature-based aggregation with feature construction using deep neural networks or other calculations. We argue that the cost function of a policy may be approximated much more accurately by the nonlinear function of the features provided by aggregation, than by the linear function of the features provided by neural networkbased reinforcement learning, thereby potentially leading to more effective policy improvement.

The global increase in life expectancy poses challenges related to the safety and well-being of the elderly population, especially in relation to falls. While falls can lead to significant cognitive impairments, timely intervention can mitigate their adverse effects. In this context, the need for non-invasive, efficient monitoring systems becomes paramount. Although wearable sensors have gained traction for monitoring health activities, they may cause discomfort during prolonged use, especially for the elderly. To address this issue, we present an intelligent, non-invasive Software-Defined Radio Frequency (SDRF) sensing system, tailored red for monitoring elderly people's falls during routine activities. Harnessing the power of deep learning and machine learning, our system processes the Wireless Channel State Information (WCSI) generated during regular and fall activities. By employing sophisticated signal processing techniques, the system captures unique patterns that distinguish falls from normal activities. In addition, we use statistical features to streamline data processing, thereby optimizing the computational efficiency of the system. Our experiments, conducted for a typical home environment while using treadmill, demonstrate the robustness of the system. The results show high classification accuracies of 92.5%, 95.1%, and 99.8% for three Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms. Notably, the SDRF-based approach offers flexibility, cost-effectiveness, and adaptability through software modifications, circumventing the need for hardware overhaul. This research attempts to bridge the gap in RF-based sensing for elderly fall monitoring, providing a solution that combines the benefits of non-invasiveness with the precision of deep learning and machine learning.

The patterns of material accumulation in buildings and infrastructure accompanied by rapid urbanization offer an important,yet hitherto largely missing stock perspective for facilitating urban system engineering and informing urban resources,waste,and climate ***,our existing knowledge on the patterns of built environment stocks across and particularly within cities is limited,largely owing to the lack of sufficient high spatial resolution *** study leveraged multi-source big geodata,machine learning,and bottom-up stock accounting to characterize the built environment stocks of 50 cities in China at 500 m fine-grained *** per capita built environment stock of many cities(261 tonnes per capita on average)is close to that in western cities,despite considerable disparities across cities owing to their varying socioeconomic,geomorphology,and urban form *** is mainly owing to the construction boom and the building and infrastructure-driven economy of China in the past ***’s urban expansion tends to be more“vertical”(with high-rise buildings)than“horizontal”(with expanded road networks).It trades skylines for space,and reflects a concentration-dispersion-concentration pathway for spatialized built environment stocks development within cities in *** results shed light on future urbanization in developing cities,inform spatial planning,and support circular and low-carbon transitions in cities.

The Role of Local Steps in Local SGD

We consider the distributed stochastic optimization problem where n agents want to minimize a global function given by the sum of agents' local functions and focus on the heterogeneous setting when agents' local functions are defined over non-i.i.d. datasets. We study the Local SGD method, where agents perform a number of local stochastic gradient steps and occasionally communicate with a central node to improve their local optimization tasks. We analyze the effect of local steps on the convergence rate and the communication complexity of Local SGD. In particular, instead of assuming a fixed number of local steps across all communication rounds, we allow the number of local steps during the i-th communication round, Hi, to be different and arbitrary numbers. Our main contribution is to characterize the convergence rate of Local SGD as a function of {Hi}i=1Runder various settings of strongly convex, convex, and nonconvex local functions, where R is the total number of communication rounds. Based on this characterization, we provide sufficient conditions on the sequence {Hi}i=1Rsuch that Local SGD can achieve linear speedup with respect to the number of workers. Furthermore, we propose a new communication strategy with increasing local steps superior to existing communication strategies for strongly convex local functions. On the other hand, for convex and nonconvex local functions, we argue that fixed local steps are the best communication strategy for Local SGD and recover state-of-the-art convergence rate results. High-end equipment with robust and excellent performance is of great significance to manufacturing automation systems. Product parameters are the foundation of performance. Usually, there is a lack of clear physical models to reveal the relationship between parameters and performance. Simulation is an important way to understand the design results of product performance parameters. However, simulations are often particularly time and resource-consuming. To address these issues, this work proposes a data-mechanism-driven product performance optimization method, which introduces Taguchi' method, nonparametric correlation testing, and multiple attribute decision making (MADM), to efficiently obtain the optimal parameter scheme. A novel MADM method is designed, which is combined with the Multi-Objective Optimization on the basis of a Ratio Analysis plus the full MULTIplicative form (MULTIMOORA) and the Variable Neighborhood Search. It has been proven that it performs better than the MULTIMOORA based on the well-known Simulated Annealing and Tabu search. Finally, taking the cutting unit of EBZ200i as a case study, we have successfully obtained the optimal parameter scheme that comprehensively performs better in terms of wear performance, robustness, and environmental economic performance.

COVID-19, corona virus disease, has been ravaging the world since the last quarter of 2019. To address this threat, the World Health Organization (WHO) has established a list of priority medical equipment that must be used by hospitals and clinics. These equipments are in fact non-linear harmonic-producing loads that have a detrimental effect on the devices and degrade the quality of the power supply. In this paper a parallel active filter: a neuronal harmonic compensation strategy based on plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) connected to the charging stations in the parking lot of hospitals and clinics and artificial intelligence is proposed in order to improve the quality of power supply thus protecting medical equipment in order to save lives. This strategy will be simulated in MATLAB and the results will be presented as evidence of its effectiveness.
