Beamspace Channel Estimation for Wideband Millimeter-Wave MIMO: A Model-Driven Unsupervised Learning Approach

Millimeter-wave (mmWave) communications have been one of the promising technologies for future wireless networks that integrate a wide range of data-demanding applications. To compensate for the large channel attenuation in mmWave band and avoid high hardware cost, a lens-based beamspace massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system is considered. However, the spatial-wideband effect in wideband mmWave systems makes channel estimation very challenging, especially when the receiver is equipped with a limited number of radio-frequency (RF) chains. Furthermore, the real channel data cannot be obtained before the mmWave system is used in a new environment, which makes it impossible to train a deep learning (DL)-based channel estimator using real data set beforehand. To solve the problem, we propose a model-driven unsupervised learning network, named learned denoising-based generalized expectation consistent (LDGEC) signal recovery network. By utilizing the Stein's unbiased risk estimator loss, the LDGEC network can be trained only with limited measurements corresponding to the pilot symbols, instead of the real channel data. Even if designed for unsupervised learning, the LDGEC network can be supervisingly trained with the real channel via the denoiser-by-denoiser way. The numerical results demonstrate that the LDGEC-based channel estimator significantly outperforms state-of-the-art compressive sensing-based algorithms when the receiver is equipped with a small number of RF chains and low-resolution ADCs. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

Scalable Δ -AGC Logic for Enhanced Electromechanical Oscillation Damping in Modern Power systems With Utility-Scale Photovoltaic Generators

Power systems with utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) can significantly influence the operating points (OPs) of synchronous generators, particularly during periods of high solar PV generation. A sudden drop in solar PV output due to cloud cover or other transient conditions will alter the generation of synchronous generators shifting their OPs. These shifted OPs can become a challenge for stability as the system may operate closer to its stability limits. If a disturbance occurs while the system is operating at the shifted OP, with reduced stability margins, it will be more vulnerable to increased oscillations, loss of synchronism of its generator(s) and system instability. This study introduces a scalable $\Delta $ -automatic generation control ( $\Delta $ -AGC) logic method designed to address stability challenges arising from shifts in the OPs of synchronous generators during abrupt drops in PV generation. By temporarily adjusting the OPs of synchronous generators through modification of their participation factors (PFs) in the AGC logic dispatch, the proposed method enhances power system stability. The proposed $\Delta $ -AGC logic method focuses on the optimal determination of $\Delta PFs$ in power systems with large number of generators, using the concept of coherency and employing a hierarchical optimization strategy that includes both inter-coherent and intra-coherent group optimization. Additionally, a new electromechanical oscillation index (EMOI), integrating both time response analysis (TRA) and frequency response analysis (FRA), is utilized as an online situational awareness tool (SAT) for optimizing the system’s stability under various conditions. This online SAT has been implemented in a decentralized manner at the area level, limiting wide-area communication overheads and any cybersecurity concerns. An Efficient Test Scheduling Method Based on Dynamic Pairing

Test scheduling is a process that manages tests within a System-on-Chip (SoC) to minimize test time by allocating test resources and adjusting priorities. Efficient test scheduling offers cost saving opportunities by reducing test time without compromising test coverage. Since test scheduling is a NP-hard problem, conventional methods adopt optimization or heuristic algorithms that leverage metrics of each test. However, due to the interdependence of tests based on how limited resources are allocated, finding the optimal solution to minimize test time is challenging. In this paper, a dynamic pairing algorithm is proposed to consider the mutual influence of tests on each other in the test scheduling process. The proposed method identifies the available test resources for a specific pair and minimizes the test time of the paired modules under identified constraints. Additionally, the proposed algorithm employs a heuristic-based approach to test scheduling to reduce the CPU time needed for scheduling. The proposed heuristic algorithm sequentially schedules test target modules and determines the optimal test schedule through dynamic pairing. Experiments have been carried out on diverse benchmarks and under various constraint conditions. The results indicate that the proposed method achieves shorter test times on average in comparison to conventional methods. © 2025 IEEE. All rights reserved.

Weakly supervised video object segmentation (WSVOS) enables the identification of segmentation maps without requiring extensive annotations of object masks, relying instead on coarse video labels indicating object presence. WSVOS in surgical videos is, however, more challenging due to the complex interaction of multiple transient objects, such as surgical tools moving in and out of the surgical field. In this scenario, state-of-the-art WSVOS methods struggle to learn accurate segmentation maps. We address this problem by introducing ViDeo Spatio-Temporal disentanglement Networks (VDST-Net), a framework to disentangle complex spatio-temporal object interactions using semi-decoupled knowledge distillation to predict high-quality class activation maps (CAMs). A teacher network is designed to help a temporal-reasoning student network resolve activation conflicts, as the student leverages temporal dependencies when specifics about object location and timing in the video are not provided. We demonstrate the efficacy of our framework on a challenging surgical video dataset where objects are, on average, present in less than 60% of annotated frames, and compare our method to state-of-the-art methods on surgical data and on a public dataset commonly used to benchmark WSVOS. Our method outperforms state-of-the-art techniques and generates accurate segmentation masks under video-level weak supervision. Our code is available at: https://***/PCASOlab/VDST-net. © 2025 IEEE.

This manuscript presents the development of a wireless system for fast and accurate heart rate monitoring. The system utilizes Seeed XIAO BLE and MAX86150 components to capture and process the photoplethysmogram (PPG) signal. Real-Time computation of heart rate is achieved through the deployment of a modified HeartPy algorithm on the microcontroller. The accuracy of the system was evaluated through experiments involving six patients, comparing the results with those obtained from a commercial pulse oximeter (A310) by AEON Technology. The Mean Percentage Error values demonstrated a close agreement between the test system and the commercial device, with an error falling within 0.31%. Additionally, the system achieved a 30% to 40% shorter refresh time compared to the commercial pulse oximeter, allowing for more frequent and up-To-date heart rate monitoring. The development of this wireless system contributes to the advancement of healthcare technology, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goal of Good Health and Well-being. Future improvements include incorporating oxygen saturation (SpO2) and electrocardiogram (ECG) detection into the system and designing a compact and portable form factor. By combining fast and accurate heart rate monitoring with wireless data transmission, this system holds promise for enhancing healthcare applications and improving patient well-being. © 2023 IEEE.

Channel prediction is an effective approach for reducing the feedback or estimation overhead in massive multi-input multi-output (m-MIMO) systems. However, existing channel prediction methods lack precision due to model mismatch errors or network generalization issues. Large language models (LLMs) have demonstrated powerful modeling and generalization abilities, and have been successfully applied to cross-modal tasks, including the time series analysis. Leveraging the expressive power of LLMs, we propose a pre-trained LLM-empowered channel prediction(LLM4CP)method to predict the future downlink channel state information (CSI) sequence based on the historical uplink CSI sequence. We fine-tune the network while freezing most of the parameters of the pre-trained LLM for better cross-modality knowledge transfer. To bridge the gap between the channel data and the feature space of the LLM,preprocessor, embedding, and output modules are specifically tailored by taking into account unique channel characteristics. Simulations validate that the proposed method achieves state-of-the-art (SOTA) prediction performance on full-sample, few-shot, and generalization tests with low training and inference costs.

Artificial intelligence(AI) has experienced substantial advancements recently, notably with the advent of large-scale language models(LLMs) employing mixture-of-experts(MoE) techniques, exhibiting human-like cognitive skills. As a promising hardware solution for edge MoE implementations, the computing-in-memory(CIM) architecture collocates memory and computing within a single device, significantly reducing the data movement and the associated energy consumption. However, due to diverse edge application scenarios and constraints, determining the optimal network structures for MoE, such as the expert's location,quantity, and dimension on CIM systems remains elusive. To this end, we introduce a software-hardware co-designed neural architecture search(NAS) framework, CIM-based MoE NAS(CMN), focusing on identifying a high-performing MoE structure under specific hardware constraints. The results of the NYUD-v2 dataset segmentation on the RRAM(SRAM) CIM system reveal that CMN can discover optimized MoE configurations under energy, latency, and performance constraints, achieving 29.67×(43.10×) energy savings,175.44×(109.89×) speedup, and 12.24× smaller model size compared to the baseline MoE-enabled Visual Transformer, respectively. This co-design opens up an avenue toward high-performance MoE deployments in edge CIM systems.

Contact-free manipulation technology represents a novel approach that offers a fresh possibility for human-machine interaction, aiming to meet the evolving demands of this interface. In this paper, we introduce a contact-free planar display control technique based on imaging. In our research, we employ cameras as sensors and integrate infrared lasers with image processing techniques to detect and localize input signals. By establishing a coordinate mapping relationship between the operational plane and the display plane, we achieved contact-free control over the planar display. Our paper introduces two methods for establishing this coordinate mapping. The first involves constructing mapping functions between the rectified and transformed camera imagery and the display plane, thereby creating a point-to-point correspondence. The second method entails dividing both the camera imagery and the display plane into segments, establishing a one-to-one relationship between regions. We analyze the strengths and limitations of these two approaches. While the former boasts higher theoretical precision, it is more susceptible to equipment factors and exhibits slower response speeds. Conversely, the latter, despite its lower theoretical precision, offers faster response times. Through the setup of an experimental platform, we demonstrate the feasibility of our proposed. © 2024 SPIE.
