In order to forecast the run time of the jobs that were submitted, this research provides two linear regression prediction models that include continuous and categorical factors. A continuous predictor is built using the number of CPUs, average CPU speed, and memory size, whereas a categorical predictor is built using the user ID, group ID, and executable ID. According to the findings, the prediction rates for categorical and continuous predictors are 61% and 1%, respectively. sixty times better than the earlier models, which used continuous variables as a foundational model to determine task complexity and weight. The effectiveness of the categorical predictor in enhancing a job scheduling problem is then evaluated by combining it with three suggested job scheduling strategies. The suggested algorithms incorporated metrics - predicted run time, waiting time, and resource requirement - to select the smallest jobs. According to the results, Algorithm 3 performs better than earlier models in both performance metrics. The variation in total execution time and average waiting time is 1.14 to 1.76 and 4.5, respectively compared to previous models, Additionally, Algorithms 1 and 2 demonstrating superior performance in every scenario. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper surveys some of the most important recent works related to micro-expression analysis. It includes discussions on algorithms for spotting and recognizing micro-expressions, their performances, databases, and new feature descriptor frameworks. Here, we use a reverse chronological order to discuss the state-of-the-art in a work-specific fashion. We provide a questionnaire-based comparative study of the literature and discuss future directions of micro-expression analysis. The Effect of Imperfect Channel-Sensing for Low Power Wide Area Networks with Listen-Before-Talk

This study investigates ALOHA with Listen-Before-Talk (LBT) to enhance the scalability of Low-Power Wide Area Networks (LPWANs), such as LoRa. The LBT allows devices to sense the channel prior to accessing so that it can mitigate interference by preventing devices from transmitting during ongoing transmissions. However, its effectiveness is compromised by inherent imperfections in channel sensing, such as false negatives and false positives. A false negative occurs when devices incorrectly find the channel idle while it is actually in use. Thus, this leads devices to unintended interferences with ongoing transmissions. A false positive arises when the channel is erroneously sensed as busy, despite the fact that it is free. This deprives devices of access opportunities. This work analyzes the impact of these imperfections of LBT on the performance of ALOHA in terms of throughput, access delay, and system stability. Additionally, we propose an online backoff control algorithm to optimize system performance under imperfect LBT. The results show that even when devices falsely identify the channel as idle or mistakenly detect it as busy nearly half the time, the throughput still outperforms that of ALOHA without LBT. The proposed backoff control algorithm is also shown to be essential to maximize the throughput in the presence of sensing errors. To demonstrate our analysis and algorithm, we incorporate LoRa's physical layer parameters into simulations and validate the results accordingly. © 2014 IEEE.

In response to the shortcomings of the SPOC course "Introduction to Computational Thinking"at Beijing University of Civil engineering and Architecture, the teaching team has transformed and improved the course design and practice based on the existing High quality undergraduate courses in Beijing universities and Beijing Curriculum Ideological and Political Demonstration Course. We aim to maintain consistency and linkage in learning objectives, learning assessments, teaching materials, learning activities, and course technology under the principle of consistent construction. Learning objectives are clearer and more measurable;learning assessment is more scientific, diverse, and reliable;Curriculum resources can meet the needs of students at different levels and majors;learning activities can fully mobilize students' subjective initiative;Curriculum technology helps to achieve learning objectives, and can reflect the characteristics of the discipline, with universality and progressiveness. Through the construction and practice of the FD-QM standard, the course team has established the principles of course standardization, clarified the direction of course material construction, drawn a knowledge graph of course knowledge points, accurately grasped the degree of learning objectives, upgraded the "characteristic"teaching resource library, enhanced student interest, and integrated ideological and political education into the curriculum, ultimately achieving a comprehensive improvement in the quality of course teaching. © 2024 ACM.

Block-Wise Separable Convolutions: An Alternative Way to Factorize Standard Convolutions

In this paper, we introduce block-wise separable convolutions (BlkSConv) to replace the standard convolutions for compressing deep CNN models. First, BlkSConv expresses the standard convolutional kernel as an ordered set of block vectors each of which is a linear combination of fixed basis block vectors. Then it eliminates most basis block vectors and their corresponding coefficients to obtain an approximated convolutional kernel. Moreover, the proposed BlkSConv operation can be efficiently realized via a combination of pointwise and group-wise convolutions. Thus the constructed networks have smaller model size and fewer multiply-adds operations while keeping comparable prediction accuracy. We also develop a hyperparameter search framework based on principal component analysis (PCA) to determine a qualified hyperparameter setting of the block depth and number of basis block vectors. By this search framework, we construct networks which achieve nice prediction performance while simultaneously satisfying the constraints of model size and model efficiency. An Efficient Lane Following Navigation Strategy With Fusion Attention for Autonomous Drones in Urban Areas

—Drones are a vital part of our daily lives because of their flexible flying nature and low operation and maintenance costs. Navigation is the most important aspect in the autonomous drone era. With that being said, recent studies have tackled the greatly challenging task of obtaining the most feasible and safest path. In this work, we focus on safe and reliable unmanned aerial vehicle navigation in densely populated city environments to efficiently follow the lane. We present herein a deep learning method through which a drone can autonomously navigate by following a lane in a dynamic urban environment. This drone perceives the environment by using two cameras facing front and down. A convolutional neural network (CNN) is used to capture the high-level feature representation through the attention and residual mechanism of the drone’s raw visual inputs. The CNN concurrent pipelines used for three raw visual inputs can output high-level features and follow the concurrent feature fusion into the self-head attention mechanism that encapsulates both dynamic and static information to predict yaw and linear velocity. These predictions are modulated into the final control commands to obtain smooth and continuous inputs that are delivered to the drone. The experimental evaluation results show that the proposed method can learn the drone’s navigation strategy for a lane following a guidance system. The high performance of the trained navigation policy is observed in the simulations with different scenarios. In conclusion, our proposed approach outperforms both existing and current state-of-the-art ImageNet models. © 2023 IEEE.

A Generalized Delay and Backlog Analysis for Multiplexing URLLC and eMBB: Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces or Decode-and-Forward?

By creating multipath backscatter links and amplify signal strength, reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) and decode-and-forward (DF) relaying are shown to degrade the latency of the ultrareliable low-latency communications (URLLCs) and enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) multiplexing system. This study investigates the delay and backlog violation behavior of URLLCs and eMBB multiplexing systems supported by different technologies, e.g. RIS and DF relay, for different scheduling policies of static priority, nonpreemption, and earliest deadline first. A tight analysis approach based on the Martingale theory was proposed to evaluate the serviceability of URLLC and eMBB multiplexing systems. On this basis, the Martingale theory analyzes the delay and backlog bounds by transforming the arrival and service processes into exponential forms of the moment generating function. Furthermore, this study derives the closed-form expression of delay and backlog bound for the URLLCs and eMBB multiplexing in two-hop heterogeneous communication networks. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed Martingale-based tightly analytical method outperforms the state-of-the-art classic stochastic network calculus for evaluating delay and backlog violation in URLLC and eMBB multiplexing systems. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

A secured internet of robotic things (IoRT) for long-term care services in a smart building

Long-term care refers to any support, both medical and non-medical, provided to the elderly with a chronic illness or disability due to physical or mental conditions. Since the cost of long-term care insurance is not inexpensive, low-cost devices and sensors can be used to create medical assistance systems to reduce human maintenance costs. The requirement of security and privacy under healthcare information protection is a critical issue for internet of medical things (IoMT) data transmission. In this paper, we designed an IoMT security robot for a long-term care system. The goal of this IoMT security robot is to provide secure transmission of the residents’ private information. It is composed of three layers, namely, collection, encryption, and transmission. The function of the IoMT security robot is to first collect data from the patient or the elderly, then provide efficient data encryption, and deliver secured data transmission mechanisms to send the valuable data to the cloud. This IoMT security robot also has a server authentication mechanism, and a support IoT and IoMT devices inspection function. Our evaluation results showed that even when we utilized a low power consumption device like Raspberry Pi, AES algorithm achieved an encrypt and decrypt of 100–100 K bytes under 9 ms, which is a lot better than ECC, which takes about 104 ms. Further, we found that the AES only takes 0.00015 s to decrypt 100 Bytes data, which is way faster than the ECC algorithm, which takes 0.09 s. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.

Subchannel selection methods for 3GPP C-V2X networks by considering vehicular mobility

The 3GPP vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) technology is a key solution to provide communication services for applications of intelligent transportation systems (ITS). According to the C-V2X specification, vehicles are allowed to communicate with each other without the help of cellular networks and can select subchannels (i.e. radio resources) by themselves. However, this design will induce subchannel collisions because of the mobility of vehicles. This work aims to relieve the aforementioned problem. We propose a cooperative subchannel selection (CoSS) scheme and a localized subchannel selection (LoSS) scheme, which consider vehicular mobility to prevent subchannel collisions. Based on the collected information, CoSS predicts possible subchannel collisions due to vehicles’ location changes. On the other hand, LoSS avoids subchannel collisions by organizing the usage of subchannels based on vehicles’ relative moving speeds. The simulation results indicate that the proposed schemes can effectively reduce subchannel collision ratio and increase packet delivery ratio for the network. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Survivable Routing Problem on EONs with Slicers for DPP Scheme

In elastic optical networks (EONs), the slicing-and-stitching technique has emerged as a promising solution to reduce spectrum fragmentation by breaking the subcarrier consecutiveness constraint. This physical layer technology enables all-optical slicing of requests, allowing them to be accommodated in multiple non-consecutive spectral slots within an EON. In this paper, we investigate the survivable routing problem in EONs with slicers. Specifically, we consider the dedicated path protection (DPP) scheme to address single edge failures. For each connection request, we aim to find a pair of link-disjoint lightpaths to route the request. Additionally, we propose four heuristic algorithms to determine the routing paths based on two different slicing schemes, namely source and Lshape. Through extensive simulations, we evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithms and demonstrate their effectiveness in achieving satisfactory results. © 2024 Institute of information science.
