We present a low-cost 5G-SA system based on edge-computing hardware with open-source components and off-the-shelf hardware in this paper. Our system is suitable for nomadic and ad-hoc 5G-SA use cases that require low-power consumption and small space. We show a complete development covering how to prepare the operating system for the installation of the 5G next-generation node B (gNB) and how to install and deploy the 5G-SA software components. We evaluate the performance, indoor coverage range, and power consumption of our system with measurements. We show that our system achieves acceptable data rates, and is very space and energy-efficient with an average power consumption of ≈ 24.81 W. We provide detailed and maintained documentation on the deployment of our system and discuss possible extensions for future work. © 2024 Mobilkommunikation: Technologien und Anwendungen - 28. Secure Multiparty Computation (SMC) facilitates secure collaboration among multiple parties while safeguarding the privacy of their confidential data. This paper introduces a two-party quantum SMC protocol designed for evaluating binary Boolean functions using single qubits. Complexity analyses demonstrate a reduction of 66.7% in required quantum resources, achieved by utilizing single qubits instead of multi-particle entangled states. However, the quantum communication cost has increased by 40% due to the amplified exchange of qubits among participants. Furthermore, we bolster security by performing additional quantum operations along the y-axis of the Bloch sphere, effectively hiding the output from potential adversaries. We design the corresponding quantum circuit and implement the proposed protocol on the IBM Qiskit platform, yielding reliable outcomes. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

The appropriate selection of parameters of photovoltaic models is necessary for an accurate evaluation, control, and optimization of photovoltaic systems. Even though various strategies have been developed to address this issue, but, a precise and reliable scheme for identifying the model parameters remains a challenge. To improve parameter identification of different photovoltaic models, an opposition-based learning reptile search algorithm with Cauchy mutation strategy (OBL-RSACM) is introduced in this research. In OBL-RSACM, the individuals in search space get doubled by generating their opposite guess of the solution which overcomes the issue of strucking of solution in local minima and also enhances the convergence speed. Cauchy mutation strategy is also incorporated in the basic reptile search algorithm (RSA) which enhances the search mechanism, modifies the control parameter, mutation-driven scheme, and greedy approach of selection during the search process of the RSA. Thus, improves the exploration process and maintains the proper balance between exploration and exploitation. The proposed OBL-RSACM is applied to estimate the parameters of different photovoltaic models, i.e., single diode, double diode, and photovoltaic module. A comprehensive comparison of experimental results and analysis demonstrated that OBL-RSACM outperformed other state-of-the-art algorithms in terms of accuracy, reliability, and computational efficacy. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

The United States department of Defense (DoD) has long been interested in aerial swarms for military intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions. Through work with DoD partners, we found a unique need for a dynamic task allocation (TA) algorithm for a swarm of unmanned aerial systems (UAS). Capable control algorithms have already been developed but deploying such algorithms in an actual swarm, reliably, requires information exchange and data organization among the agents. To this end, we introduce a collaborative aerial swarming architecture (CASA), capable of dynamic task allocation and decentralized control. We highlight, through CASA, how this algorithm can be applied to ISR tasks. Finally, we present the results of deploying CASA on a simulated swarm of UAS for a notional ISR task. © 2023 ICROS.

This paper provides a novel contribution to the field of Machine Learning Anomaly Detection (MLAD) for Wide Area Monitoring, Protection, and Control for Power Grids by developing a hardware-based emulation of electromechanical transient anomalies at multiple scales and developing a mathematical model capable of creating new anomalies at arbitrary scales for use in future work of emulation via controllable sources. The work is critical to creating realistic, real-world data capable of providing comprehensive validation of MLAD algorithms at non-trivial scales. It provides a thorough methodology for understanding the entire experimental and modeling process all the way from inducing electromechanical transients on a 3-phase, 4-pole PID-controlled synchronous generator via toggling of discrete 3 phase loads, to data collection through Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) and a Phasor Data Concentrator (PDC), to data processing and mathematical modeling. In this exploration, it also provides helpful views into the characteristics of electromechanical anomalies far exceeding those in simulation as seen from the perspective of emulation, real-hardware, and all the subsequent real-world artifacts, including accumulating loads causing transients, real noise, and PMU to PDC sampling artifacts to name a few. Furthermore, all data and analysis are published concurrently to allow replication by the broader community. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper studies the fundamental limits of the shared-link coded caching problem with correlated files, where a server with a library of N files communicates with K users who can locally cache M files. Given an integer r ∈ [N] , correlation is modelled as follows: each r -subset of files contains a unique common block. The tradeoff between the cache size and the average transmitted load over the uniform demand distribution is studied. First, a converse bound under the constraint of uncoded cache placement (i.e., each user directly stores a subset of the library bits) is derived. Then, a caching scheme for the case where every user demands a distinct file (possible for N≥ K) is shown to be optimal under the constraint of uncoded cache placement. This caching scheme is further proved to be decodable and optimal under the constraint of uncoded cache placement when (i) KrM ≤ 2N or KrM ≥ (K-1) N or r ∈ {1,2, N-1, N}, and (ii) when the number of distinct demanded files is no larger than four. Finally, a new delivery scheme based on interference alignment which jointly serves the users' demands is shown to be order optimal to within a factor of 2 under the constraint of uncoded cache placement. As an extension, the above exact and order optimal results can be extended to the worst-case load. As by-products, an extension of the proposed scheme for M= N/K is shown to reduce the load of state-of-the-art schemes for the coded caching problem where the users can request multiple files;the proposed scheme for distinct demands can be extended to the coded distributed computing problem with a central server, which achieves the optimal transmission load over the binary field. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Vehicle-to-everything (V2X) networks support a variety of safety, entertainment, and commercial applications. This is realized by applying the principles of the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) to facilitate connectivity among vehicles and between vehicles and roadside units (RSUs). Network congestion management is essential for IoVs and it represents a significant concern due to its impact on improving the efficiency of transportation systems and providing reliable communication among vehicles for the timely delivery of safety-critical packets. This paper introduces a framework for proactive congestion management for IoV networks. We generate congestion scenarios and a data set to predict the congestion using LSTM. We present the framework and the packet congestion dataset. Simulation results using SUMO with NS3 demonstrate the effectiveness of the framework for forecasting IoV network congestion and clustering/prioritizing packets employing recurrent neural networks. © 2024 IEEE.

Facial expressions convey massive information and play a crucial role in emotional expression. Deep neural network (DNN) accompanied by deep metric learning (DML) techniques boost the discriminative ability of the model in facial expression recognition (FER) applications. DNN, equipped with only classification loss functions such as Cross-Entropy cannot compact intra-class feature variation or separate inter-class feature distance as well as when it gets fortified by a DML supporting loss item. The triplet center loss (TCL) function is applied on all dimensions of the sample's embedding in the embedding space. In our work, we developed three strategies: fully-synthesized, semi-synthesized, and prediction-based negative sample selection strategies. To achieve better results, we introduce a selective attention module that provides a combination of pixel-wise and element-wise attention coefficients using high-semantic deep features of input samples. We evaluated the proposed method on the RAF-DB, a highly imbalanced dataset. The experimental results reveal significant improvements in comparison to the baseline for all three negative sample selection strategies. © 2023 IEEE.
