GCM-PDA: A Generative Compensation Model for Progressive Difference Attenuation in Spatiotemporal Fusion of Remote Sensing Images

High-resolution satellite imagery with dense temporal series is crucial for long-term surface change monitoring. Spatiotemporal fusion seeks to reconstruct remote sensing image sequences with both high spatial and temporal resolutions by leveraging prior information from multiple satellite platforms. However, significant radiometric discrepancies and large spatial resolution variations between images acquired from different satellite sensors, coupled with the limited availability of prior data, present major challenges to accurately reconstructing missing data using existing methods. To address these challenges, this paper introduces GCM-PDA, a novel generative compensation model with progressive difference attenuation for spatiotemporal fusion of remote sensing images. The proposed model integrates multi-scale image decomposition within a progressive fusion framework, enabling the efficient extraction and integration of information across scales. Additionally, GCM-PDA employs domain adaptation techniques to mitigate radiometric inconsistencies between heterogeneous images. Notably, this study pioneers the use of style transformation in spatiotemporal fusion to achieve spatial-spectral compensation, effectively overcoming the constraints of limited prior image information. Experimental results demonstrate that GCM-PDA not only achieves competitive fusion performance but also exhibits strong robustness across diverse conditions.

A simulation test-bed based on OpenGL graphics tool is developed for studying the telemetry communication link of aircraft with ground station. The smooth aircraft movement has been implemented using cubic spline algorithm and antenna beamforming algorithms has been used to track the aircraft movement by estimating the AoA (Angle of Arrival). The paper compares the performances of LMS (Least Mean Square) and RLS (Recursive Least Square) antenna beamforming algorithms to track the movement of aircraft in the presence of noise. The simulation test-bed was able to track the aircraft movement successfully for AOA of less than 75° with signal to noise ratio of more than 4dB. © 2022 IEEE.

Although U-Net and its variants have achieved some great successes in medical image segmentation tasks, their segmentation performances for small objects are still unsatisfactory. Therefore, in this work, a new deep model, co-Net, is proposed to achieve more accurate medical image segmentations. The advancements of co-Net are mainly threefold: First, it incorporates an additional expansive path into U-Net to import an extra supervision signal and obtain a more effective and robust image segmentation by dual supervision. Then, a multi-dimensional self-attention mechanism is further developed to highlight salient features and suppress irrelevant ones consecutively in both spatial and channel dimensions. Finally, to reduce semantic disparity between the feature maps of the contracting and expansive paths, we further propose to integrate diversely-connected multi-scale convolution blocks into the skip connections, where several multi-scale convolutional operations are connected in both series and parallel. Extensive experimental results on three abdominal CT segmentation tasks show that (i) co-Net greatly outperforms the state-of-the-art image segmentation methods in medical image segmentation tasks;(ii) the proposed three advancements are all effective and essential for co-Net to achieve the superior performances;and (iii) the proposed multi-dimensional self-attention (resp., diversely-connected multi scale convolution) is more effective than the state-of-the-art attention mechanisms (resp., multi-scale solutions) for medical image segmentations. A comprehensive understanding of the topology of the electric power transmission network (EPTN) is essential for reliable and robust control of power systems. While existing research primarily relies on domain-specific methods, it lacks data-driven approaches that have proven effective in modeling the topology of complex systems. To address this gap, this paper explores the potential of data-driven methods for more accurate and adaptive solutions to uncover the true underlying topology of EPTNs. First, this paper examines Gaussian Graphical Models (GGM) to create an EPTN network graph (i.e., undirected simple graph). Second, to further refine and validate this estimated network graph, a physics-based, domain-specific refinement algorithm is proposed to prune false edges and construct the corresponding electric power flow network graph (i.e., directed multi-graph). The proposed method is tested using a synchrophasor dataset collected from a two-area, four-machine power system simulated on the real-time digital simulator (RTDS) platform. Experimental results show both the network and flow graphs can be reconstructed using various operating conditions and topologies with limited failure cases.

Self-Decoupled Square Patch Antenna Arrays by Exciting and Using Mixed Electric/Magnetic Coupling Between Adjacent Radiators

This article presents and develops a simple decoupling method for the planar square patch antenna arrays by virtue of mixed electric and magnetic coupling property. Since the resonant modes of TM10 and TM01 are a pair of degenerate modes in the square patch radiator which are intrinsically orthogonal, a superposed mode of them can be generated to possess consistent field distributions along all the four sides of the patch by adjusting the feeding position. By employing such superposed mode, the mutual coupling between two horizontally adjacent patch elements will become identical to that between two vertical ones, indicating an expected possibility that the complex 2-D decoupling problem in a large-scale antenna patch array can be effectively facilitated and simplified to a 1-D one. Subsequently, metallic pins and connecting strip are properly loaded in each square patch resonator, such that appropriate electric and magnetic coupling strengths can be readily achieved and thus the mutual coupling can get highly decreased. A 1 × 2 antenna array with an edge-to-edge separation of 1 mm, which corresponding to 0.0117λ0, is firstly discussed, simulated, and fabricated. The measured results show that the isolation can be highly improved from 4 dB to 17 dB across the entire passband. In final, 1 × 3, 2 × 2, and 4 × 4 antenna array prototypes are constructed and studied for verification of the expansibility and feasibility of the proposed decoupling method to both linear and 2-D antenna arrays.

Establishing early warning systems and efficient management of water resources in tidal reaches is crucial for achieving adequate flood protection. In tidal reaches, the river stage interacts non-linearly with tides (downstream) and discharge (upstream), making the modeling of river processes extremely complex. Data-driven methods have proven helpful for predicting the river stage parameter. This contrasts with existing numerical approaches, which suffer from several limitations. The aim of this study was to predict the river stage of the upstream part of the tidal river, where the influence of salinity is present during the summer months. Using the CNN-LSTM model trained on historical records of the discharge (station of the variable to be predicted), the river stage of three downstream stations, and the point of interest, the prediction was carried out up to 24 hours in advance. By incorporating feature engineering, we achieved an improvement in model results for the longest horizon, confirmed by standard performance metrics, and considered it efficient and effective for risk mitigation. Introducing feature engineering into the data preprocessing resulted in a predictive performance improvement of 0.98% for the Nash-Sutcliffe Efficiency (NSE) metric, 7.0% for the root mean squared error (RMSE) metric, and 7.25% for the mean absolute error (MAE) metric over the second and third-best scenarios using a spectrogram and time-series data.

Recent innovations in devices, circuits, and systems have resulted in the widespread use of parallel and in-memory architectures for energy-efficient computing. However, the choice of signal representation within these architectures has received less attention. Nevertheless, computing using analog variables is known to be fundamentally more resource-efficient for low-and moderate-precision operations, making it of interest for applications, such as inference and real-time control, where high precision is not a requirement. However, well-known difficulties with scalability, programambility, and memory access have im-peded the realization of integrated analog computers (ACs) that can utilize these fundamental advantages. This paper provides a tutorial-style review of state-of-the-art integrated ACs and their advantages, including ultra-low latency and high energy-efficiency, for solving selected problems where clocked digital architectures are not resource-efficient.

This work demonstrates four grid service use cases using a service-oriented DER Management System within an Energy Grid of Things network. Imposed by a set of rules referred to as the Energy Service Interface, the DER Management System uses IEEE 2030.5 as its primary communication protocol. To simulate the efforts of Grid Operators, Grid Service Providers, and consumers to provide grid services, a co-simulation environment that leverages the GridAPPS-D simulation platform was developed. The results show that a service-oriented DER Management System provides a means of achieving reliable and impactful grid services while protecting customers' privacy and ensuring their agency over their Distributed Energy Resources.
