Acoustic Amplifying Diode Using Nonreciprocal Willis Coupling

We propose a concept called acoustic amplifying diode combining signal isolation and amplification in a single device. The signal is exponentially amplified in one incident direction with no reflection and is perfectly absorbed in another. The reflection is eliminated from the device in both directions with impedance matching, preventing backscattering to the signal source. Here, we demonstrate the amplifying diode using an active metamaterial with nonreciprocal Willis coupling. We also discuss the situation with the presence of both reciprocal and nonreciprocal Willis couplings for more flexibility in implementation. The coexistence of both amplifier and perfect absorber in opposite incident directions extends the regime of sound isolation and further enables applications in sensing and communication, in which nonreciprocity can play an important role.

Weighted Sum Rate Enhancement by Using Dual-Side IOS-Assisted Full-Duplex for Multi-User MIMO systems

This paper established a novel multi-input multi-output (MIMO) communication network, in the presence of full-duplex (FD) transmitters and receivers with the assistance of dual-side intelligent omni surface (IOS). Compared with the traditional IOS, the dual-side IOS allows signals from both sides to reflect and refract simultaneously, which further exploits the potential of metasurfaces to avoid frequency dependence, and size, weight, and power (SWaP) limitations. By considering both the downlink and uplink transmissions, we aim to maximize the weighted sum rate, subject to the transmit power constraints of the transmitter, the users and the dual-side reflecting and refracting phase shifts constraints. However, the formulated sum rate maximization problem is not convex, hence we exploit the weighted minimum mean square error (WMMSE) approach, and tackle the original problem iteratively by solving two sub-problems. For the beamforming matrices optimization of the downlink and uplink, we resort to the Lagrangian dual method combined with a bisection search to obtain the results. Furthermore, we resort to the quadratically constrained quadratic programming (QCQP) method to optimize the reflecting and refracting phase shifts of both sides of the IOS. Simulation results validate the efficacy of the proposed algorithm and demonstrate the superiority of the dual-side IOS. © 2014 IEEE.

Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer,with an increasing incidence over recent *** the past decade,researchers have recognized the potential of computer vision algorithms to aid in the early diagnosis of *** a result,a number of works have been dedicated to developing efficient machine learning models for its accurate classification;still,there remains a large window for improvement necessitating further research *** of the existing methods include lower accuracy and high computational complexity,which may be addressed by identifying and selecting the most discriminative features to improve classification *** this work,we apply transfer learning to a Nasnet-Mobile CNN model to extract deep features and augment it with a novel nature-inspired feature selection algorithm called Mutated Binary Artificial Bee *** selected features are fed to multiple classifiers for final *** use PH2,ISIC-2016,and HAM10000 datasets for experimentation,supported by Monte Carlo simulations for thoroughly evaluating the proposed feature selection *** carry out a detailed comparison with various benchmark works in terms of convergence rate,accuracy histogram,and reduction percentage histogram,where our method reports 99.15%(2-class)and 97.5%(3-class)accuracy on the PH^(2) dataset,while 96.12%and 94.1%accuracy for the other two datasets,respectively,against minimal features.

Human-computer interaction (HCI) is an evolving field of research that focuses on understanding and improving the communication and interaction between humans and computers. Over the past decades, we have seen many significant advances in this field, which have contributed to the widespread adoption and integration of technology into our daily lives. HCI research and development aims to design information technology systems to meet the needs and preferences of users. Usability, efficiency, accessibility and user satisfaction are important considerations in HCI design. This paper presents the results of a pilot study on user acceptance of HCIs. The results show that users are positive about and willing to use HCIs. © 2023 IEEE.

It has recently been shown that there are no multimedia fingerprinting codes that can find all malicious users when they use arbitrary linear attacks plus adversarial noise. It is shown that such codes exist if the complete recovery property is limited to the IPP property, i.e., the property to find at least one malicious user. Moreover, we extend this property to a property that allows us to detect all users whose contribution to the forgery is large enough. Efficient decoding (tracing traitors) algorithms are developed for these codes. © 2023 IEEE.

Estimating the confidence of a machine learning (ML) model plays an important role in minimizing undesirable outcomes and safety risks when using ML models in the real world, especially in high-stake application scenarios. However, the majority of existing confidence estimation methods do not work well without incorporating internal information from the model, such as the gradients, internal representations or checkpoints of its training process, which might compromise the security of the model. To alleviate such limitations, we intend to design a reliable confidence estimation method that requires as little internal model information as possible, yet precisely detecting uncertain samples for the model. In this work, we propose a confidence estimation approach that learns the confidence criterion (that is, the true class probability, TCP) based on the explanations of model's predictions. The proposed approach utilizes the knowledge learned in the model with the leverage of the explanations for model's prediction rather than directly extracting internal information of the model, so that it can be adopted in a wide range of applications. Several experiments, including experiments on different datasets, different models and non-IID (independent and identically distributed) test datasets, are conducted to examine the effectiveness of our confidence estimation method. The experimental results show that our proposed approach provides a reliable confidence estimation and generally performs better than the compared methods, especially in the capability of recognizing when a ML model makes errors. © 2023 IEEE.

Efficient displacement convex optimization with particle gradient descent

Particle gradient descent, which uses particles to represent a probability measure and performs gradient descent on particles in parallel, is widely used to optimize functions of probability measures. This paper considers particle gradient descent with a finite number of particles and establishes its theoretical guarantees to optimize functions that are displacement convex in measures. Concretely, for Lipschitz displacement convex functions defined on probability over Rd, we prove that O(1/ϵ2) particles and O(d/ϵ4) computations are sufficient to find the ϵ-optimal solutions. We further provide improved complexity bounds for optimizing smooth displacement convex functions. We demonstrate the application of our results for function approximation with specific neural architectures with two-dimensional inputs. © 2023, CC BY-NC-ND.
