With the growth of big data in the past few decades, compression has become inseparable from data generation. The data generated daily across different platforms are correlated: friend networks on Facebook and Instagram, contact networks in subsequent days, and many more. This raises the question of compressing a dataset using another correlated dataset. For instance, can we compress the Facebook graph of friends when we know Instagram's graph? This can be cast as the classical problem of source coding with side information, and the answer is known to be positive when the graphs are "labeled"and/or aligned, meaning we need to know the node corresponding to Jon Doe in both Facebook and Instagram graphs. The classical idea is to utilize joint typicality to decide whether two graphs are correlated or not. In practice, graphs are often not aligned and/or the labels are concealed to keep the identity of the users private. In these scenarios, classical ideas are no longer applicable as joint typicality highly depends on the ordering of sequences. In this work, we prove for the first time the existence of lossless graph compression schemes that utilize unlabeled side information and improve the compression rate. In order to do that, we design binning along with a novel testing criterion that relies on graph matching, the closely related quadratic assignment problem and its asymptotic properties. © 2023 IEEE.

In this study, a transparent bilayer memristor showing both electrical and optical synapses along with good electrical properties after annealing is presented. In addition to 85% transparency, the device shows excellent electrical characteristics for 1000 cycles of stable LRS/HRS and more than 104 s retention at high temperatures. The annealed device also exhibits stable potentiation and depression cycles for more than 10 000 ac pulses with a low coefficient of nonlinearity. By applying consecutive ac pulses, synaptic properties of paired-pulse facilitation (PPF) and spike time-dependent plasticity (STDP) are calculated. The memristor is illuminated by a 405 nm light source in which different light intensities ranging from 20 to 40 mW/cm2 are used for achieving multilevel cell (MLC) characteristics. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) equipped with full-duplex relays (FDRs) are pivotal in overcoming connectivity challenges by dynamically establishing effective communication channels. However, despite their potential in network performance via trajectory optimization, integrating energy consumption models for UAV-mounted FDRs remains unexplored, crucial for trajectory design adhering to existing energy constraints. To this end, we introduce an energy-aware trajectory optimization framework to maximize network performance and user fairness within the UAV's energy constraints. Specifically, we present a detailed energy consumption model describing the operational needs of UAV-mounted FDRs and formulate a joint time-division multiple access (TDMA) user scheduling-UAV trajectory optimization problem considering the power dynamics of UAV-mounted FDRs. Finally, our simulation results highlight the role of energy awareness in achieving optimal trajectory and scheduling, contributing to UAV-mounted FDRs' performance in future networks. © 2024 IEEE.

We describe a unified framework for model-based iterative 3-D reconstruction of multimodal neutron transmission, hydrogen-scatter, and induced-fission images from low resolution data recorded using 14.1-MeV neutrons and the associated-particle imaging (API) technique. The framework, which was developed to facilitate use in challenging field-deployment scenarios, is centered around physics-based system models and a total variation (TV) constrained implementation of the simultaneous iterative reconstruction technique (SIRT). Modified to solve a statistically weighted least squares (WLS) problem, the SIRT algorithm is accelerated using ordered subsets and Nesterov’s momentum for which we derive a near-optimal value of the governing Lipschitz constant. The approach enables the reconstruction of images that are high resolution compared to the acquired data and is robust to both limited statistics and a limited number of projection angles. Moreover, the framework is fast enough to be practical. Example images are provided that demonstrate both the ability to perform fast-neutron imaging of high-atomic-number materials with low radiation dose and the benefit of multimodal neutron imaging to identify key materials. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Fault diagnosis of rotating machinery driven by induction motors has received increasing attention. Current diagnostic methods, which can be performed on existing inverters or current transformers of three-phase induction machines, have become a more economical and reliable alternative to vibration diagnostic methods. Existing references mainly focus on the stator current analysis of single-phase, but most single-phase current analysis methods utilize only a fraction of the total information accessible in the three-phase system. Field experience shows that zero-sequence current (ZSC) has more distinctive fault characteristics compared to single-phase current, and therefore it is better to use in mechanical fault detection and diagnostic tasks. This article proposes a novel sparse learning-based method for ZSC analysis for induction rotating motor drive fault diagnosis. First, it elaborates and compares the effectiveness of ZSC in revealing fault characteristics compared with single-phase current by analyzing the fault diagnosis mechanism of ZSC. In addition, the method proposes a correlation entropy-enhanced sparse learning method for the problem of high-frequency noise and interference in the ZSC signals, so as to enhance the learning of the features of the noise-containing signals. The diagnostic efficacy of the proposed method has been verified through experiments on two real datasets. © 1986-2012 IEEE.

In the rapidly evolving domains of AI and Internet tech, face recognition, a key machine learning application, is increasingly used in security, identity verification, and public monitoring. As this technology progresses, its applications are expanding. A critical factor in its growing popularity is the advancement of the underlying algorithms, which drives its effectiveness in various applications. This paper investigates facial recognition technologies using the Olivetti faces dataset. It compares the efficacy of Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Eigenface method, Support Vector Machine (SVM) with linear kernel, a standard Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), and a CNN-Transfer Learning approach with MobileNet. The transfer learning is trained with the Adam optimizer (learning rate 0.0004) and categorical cross entropy loss. Over 100 epochs with a batch size of 64, the model's performance, in terms of accuracy and loss, is meticulously tracked and visualized, providing insights into its learning progression. The final evaluation includes a detailed classification report, highlighting precision, recall, and F1-scores, and these metrics are graphically represented for a comprehensive understanding of the model's performance. The CNN model achieved 80% accuracy, while PCA and SVM exhibited high accuracies, reaching 91% and 97.5%, respectively. We have also applied the eigenface method and achieved 91% accuracy in face recognition. Notably, the CNN-Transfer Learning method demonstrates superior performance with a 95% accuracy, highlighting the potential of deep learning in facial recognition applications. © 2024 IEEE.

Various software and systems engineering scenarios rely on the systematic construction of consistent graph models. However, automatically generating a diverse set of consistent graph models for complex domain specifications is challenging. First, the graph generation problem must be specified with mathematical precision. Moreover, graph generation is a computationally complex task, which necessitates specialized logic solvers. Refinery is a novel open-source software framework to automatically synthesize a diverse set of consistent domain-specific graph models. The framework offers an expressive high-level specification language using partial models to succinctly formulate a wide range of graph generation challenges. Moreover, it provides a modern cloud-based architecture for a scalable graph solver as a service, which uses logic reasoning rules to efficiently synthesize a diverse set of solutions to graph generation problems by partial model refinement. In the transformative field of mineral processing, the need for innovative technologies to overcome inherent difficulties and a critical shortage of high-quality data is an acute challenge. This study addresses these pressing issues by leveraging advanced spatio-temporal deep learning techniques, specifically Convolutional Long Short-Term Memory (ConvLSTM). Focused on the Zinc flotation circuit at CMG Managem Group in Morocco, our comprehensive approach encompasses meticulous data collection from a real-world industrial setting, rigorous spatial and temporal analyses, practical and accurate data augmentation, and the development of a ConvLSTM model for precise prediction of mineral grades. By capturing the temporal intricacies of froth behavior through video data, we gain insights into mineral concentration fluctuations, a critical aspect of traditional analysis. By offering a comprehensive solution that combines cutting-edge technology, meticulous data analysis, and practical augmentation methods, we aim to elevate not only mineral processing efficiency but also a broader spectrum of resource utilization and sustainable practices. This study offers a promising solution to elevate mineral processing efficiency and accuracy in the face of data limitations. For deploying deep neural networks on edge devices with limited resources, binary neural networks (BNNs) have attracted significant attention, due to their computational and memory efficiency. However, once a neural network is binarized, finetuning it on edge devices becomes challenging because most conventional training algorithms for BNNs are designed for use on centralized servers and require storing real-valued parameters during training. To address this limitation, this paper introduces binary stochastic flip optimization (BinSFO), a novel training algorithm for BNNs. BinSFO employs a parameter update rule based on Boolean operations, eliminating the need to store real-valued parameters and thereby reducing memory requirements and computational overhead. In experiments, we demonstrated the effectiveness and memory efficiency of BinSFO in finetuning scenarios on six image classification datasets. BinSFO performed comparably to conventional training algorithms with a 70.7% smaller memory requirement. Code is released at https://***/TatsukichiShibuya/ICASSP2025_BinSFO. © 2025 IEEE.
