The transition kernel of a continuous-state-action Markov decision process (MDP) admits a natural tensor structure. This paper proposes a tensor-inspired unsupervised learning method to identify meaningful low-dimensional state and action representations from empirical trajectories. The method exploits the MDP's tensor structure by kernelization, importance sampling and low-Tucker-rank approximation. This method can be further used to cluster states and actions respectively and find the best discrete MDP abstraction. We provide sharp statistical error bounds for tensor concentration and the preservation of diffusion distance after embedding. We further prove that the learned state/action abstractions provide accurate approximations to latent block structures if they exist, enabling function approximation in downstream tasks such as policy evaluation.

In today's rapidly evolving technological landscape, the need for efficient and reliable remote monitoring of under-water assets has never been more critical. A subsea cellular network solution ensures seamless connectivity and real-time data access to underwater assets such as marine robots and subsea IoT sensors, empowering organizations to optimize their operations and enhance asset management. With this need in mind, we present an underwater cellular network system that facilitates seamless communication with an arbitrary number of underwater assets and at the same time provides zero-overhead localization of the same. The presented system was tested out at sea in January 2024, and this paper describes in detail both the theoretical design of the system and the practical experience gained during these trials. © 2024 IEEE.

Abnormal climates due to global warming have emerged as a big concern in the global community. To mitigate climate change and achieve sustainability, distributed energy resources (DERs), including solar and wind, have been recently deployed in power systems. As the penetration level of DERs has increased, however, it caused a multitude of issues in the power systems, such as voltage fluctuation in the distribution network limiting renewable hosting capacity. On the other hand, the electric vehicle (EV) industry is rapidly growing to facilitate the transition to a carbon-neutral community, illuminating the potential of EVs as a flexible grid asset to mitigate some of the issues and improve grid operation, if properly exploited. To explore the potential of EVs, this paper proposes an EV scheduling strategy. By using an optimal EV charging scheduling proposed, distribution system operators (DSOs) can minimize their operating costs and stably operate the system with a high level of DERs. To validate the method, a modified IEEE 33-bus system with DERs is developed. The case study shows the proposed scheduling strategizes EV charging to reduce the cost of PV curtailment. In the study, the method outperforms the renewable-only case with curtailment by 4.97% in DSO cost. It also demonstrates its potential to increase the renewable hosting capacity by harmonizing EV charging with renewables. © 2023 The Korean Institute of Power Electronics.

Sub-6GHz and mmWave complement each other in the next generation of wireless communications for wide coverage and high capacity. However, there is still a gap between current network technology and seamless connection in indoor environments due to the inevitable occlusions that particularly affect higher frequency bands like Wi-Fi 5GHz and mmWave. To overcome this gap, economical tunable metasurfaces offer a promising solution by redirecting the beam direction of incoming waves to bypass blockages. However, existing metasurface technologies focus on a single frequency band and lack a theoretical framework to guide surface design for multiple desired bands, limiting their potential for diverse *** work attempts to provide a general method for cross-band metasurface design, extend wireless link coverage by using a new metasurface prototype called CrossFlit, which can maximize the link quality with efficient aperture usage and low cost. We addressed a series of challenges to enable CrossFlit to independently control the wireless communication links across multiple frequency bands;our proof of concept implementation is for Wi-Fi 5 GHz and mmWave bands. We integrate a fast beam-scanning algorithm into an end-to-end system that actuates the metasurface to optimize links in realtime. Empirical evaluation demonstrates that CrossFlit can enhance multiple wireless links simultaneously, providing 10 dB and 15 dB power improvements for Wi-Fi and mmWave links, respectively. CrossFlit achieves less than 4° beam mismatch even in challenging mobile scenarios. © 2023 Owner/Author(s)

Arm-based electrocardiogram (ECG) offers a more comfortable and user-friendly alternative to traditional chest ECG for wearable cardiac monitoring in daily health applications. However, arm ECG faces challenges such as capturing extremely low-amplitude signals in the microvolt range and significant electromyogram (EMG) noise contamination. The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of dry electrodes for arm and chest ECG monitoring using gold standard BIOPAC and proposed mDAQ systems. This study consisted of two phases. In Phase 1, we evaluated different dry electrode materials, including silver knit fabric and gold-plated electrodes, with six healthy adult participants (N = males and N =3 females) having upper arm circumference ranging from 27 to 42 cm. We used a BIOPAC system as a gold standard to collect arm ECG, upper arm EMG, and reference chest ECG during standardized movement tasks. Results showed that silver knit electrodes demonstrated superior QRS energy (0.705 ± 0.151), surpassing chest gel floating ECG QRS energy (0.328 ± 0.026), with lower EMG interference across movement conditions. In Phase 2, we developed a bioinstrumentation system (mDAQ) optimized for dry electrodes, demonstrating reliable ECG acquisition in both chest Lead I and arm configurations. -We validated our bioinstrumentation with sixteen healthy adult participants (N = 8 male and N = female. The mDAQ system maintained high signal consistency with a skewness effect size of 0.963 and showed a mean heart rate bias of only -1.842 bpm compared to the BIOPAC system, confirming its viability for wearable ECG monitoring applications. © 2024 Fraunhofer IZM.

Blockchain technology represents a modern supply chain management revolution which fixes operational challenges while providing enhanced transparency at reduced costs. The research develops HB-SCOF (Hybrid Blockchain-Enabled Supply Chain Optimization Framework) which combines blockchain self-verification databases with automatic smart contracts to maintain continuous supply chain observation and evaluate data credibility. The framework integrates tamper-proof transaction tracking mechanisms with unified supply chain network connectivity for securing data transmission as a trust delivery method through unbreakable shared databases. The retail-industry case study demonstrated a 25% decrease in expenses stemming from agency elimination alongside enhanced flow management and better stock distribution. The system demonstrates its effectiveness through assessments of key performance indicators including transaction speed and data accuracy together with business cost efficiency. This part looks at implementation methods through training stakeholders in addition to transforming organizational policies which produce successful outcomes. Blockchain technology labs verify its capability to enhance supply chain management efficiency while showing realistic deployment methods. © 2025 IEEE.
