Hyperautomation for Air Quality Evaluations: A Perspective of Evidential Three-way Decision-making

Hyperautomation acts as a real digital transformation with the support of several cutting-edge cognitive computation methods that include robotic process automation, natural language processing, artificial intelligence, and other emerging ones, which is conducive to processing complex industrial processes via extending the range of various data-driven cognitive decision-making algorithms. The study of air quality evaluations (AQE) plays a significant role in ensuring healthy atmospheric environments. In view of the objective existence of uncertainties, AQE can be modeled and addressed by a typical data-driven automated decision-making problem, and hyperautomation can provide a reasonable solution via associating with a variety of techniques. This article explores hyperautomation for AQE via evidential three-way large-scale group decision-making (LSGDM) in an intuitionistic fuzzy (IF) setting. First, the notion of intuitionistic fuzzy sets (IFSs) is incorporated into the paradigm of multi-granularity (MG) three-way decisions (TWD), and the model of adjustable MG IF probabilistic rough sets (PRSs) is developed. Second, an IF clustering analysis with the improved technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) method is conducted to affirm representative members within a decision group. Third, a novel IF LSGDM method is built via adjustable MG IF PRSs and the evidence reasoning (ER) method. Finally, a case study in the setting of AQE is studied by using the presented evidential three-way LSGDM method. Corresponding experimental analyses are carried out for illustrating the efficiency of hyperautomation for AQE. In general, the proposed method improves the performance of information fusion by virtue of adjustable MG IF PRSs, and the TOPSIS method avoids the influence of subjective factors on decision results. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) are efficient tools for pattern recognition applications. They have found applications in wireless communication systems such as modulation classification from constellation diagrams. Unfortunately, noisy channels may render the constellation points deformed and scattered, which makes the classification a difficult task. This paper presents an efficient modulation classification algorithm based on CNNs. Constellation diagrams are generated for each modulation type and used for training and testing of the CNNs. The proposed work depends on the application of Radon Transform (RT) to generate more representative patterns for the constellation diagrams to be used for training and testing. The RT has a good ability to represent discrete points in the spatial domain as curved lines. Several pre-trained networks including AlexNet, VGG-16, and VGG-19 are used as classifiers for modulation type from the spatial-domain constellation diagrams or their RTs. Several simulation experiments are presented in this paper to compare different scenarios for modulation classification at different Signal-to-Noise Ratios (SNRs) and fading channel conditions. © 2022, The Author(s).

An Efficient Test Scheduling Method Based on Dynamic Pairing

Test scheduling is a process that manages tests within a System-on-Chip (SoC) to minimize test time by allocating test resources and adjusting priorities. Efficient test scheduling offers cost saving opportunities by reducing test time without compromising test coverage. Since test scheduling is a NP-hard problem, conventional methods adopt optimization or heuristic algorithms that leverage metrics of each test. However, due to the interdependence of tests based on how limited resources are allocated, finding the optimal solution to minimize test time is challenging. In this paper, a dynamic pairing algorithm is proposed to consider the mutual influence of tests on each other in the test scheduling process. The proposed method identifies the available test resources for a specific pair and minimizes the test time of the paired modules under identified constraints. Additionally, the proposed algorithm employs a heuristic-based approach to test scheduling to reduce the CPU time needed for scheduling. The proposed heuristic algorithm sequentially schedules test target modules and determines the optimal test schedule through dynamic pairing. Experiments have been carried out on diverse benchmarks and under various constraint conditions. The results indicate that the proposed method achieves shorter test times on average in comparison to conventional methods. © 2025 IEEE. All rights reserved.

Linear feature extraction at the presence of nonlinear dependencies among the data is a fundamental challenge in unsupervised learning. We propose using a Gram-Schmidt (GS) type orthogonalization process over function spaces in order to detect and remove redundant dimensions. Specifically, by applying the GS process over a family of functions which presumably captures the nonlinear dependencies in the data, we construct a series of covariance matrices that can either be used to identify new large-variance directions, or to remove those dependencies from the principal components. In the former case, we provide information-theoretic guarantees in terms of entropy reduction. In the latter, we prove that under certain assumptions the resulting algorithms detect and remove nonlinear dependencies whenever those dependencies lie in the linear span of the chosen function family. Both proposed methods extract linear features from the data while removing nonlinear redundancies. We provide simulation results on synthetic and real-world datasets which show improved performance over state-of-the-art feature extraction algorithms. © 2024 IEEE.

Top-k dominance (TKD) query is an extended query method of skyline query and top-k query, which reveals the top-k dominant individuals in an incomplete dataset by analyzing the dominance relationships between individuals and is a common decision tool in intelligent recommendation applications. This research proposes two parallel query algorithms based on Spark computing engine to address the shortcomings of the parallel top-k-dominated query algorithms for dynamic incomplete datasets. The designed model achieves good performance in terms of runtime performance compared to previous studies. © 2023 IEEE.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are increasingly utilized in various applications often requiring coordinated operations of multiple UAVs. Circular formation control has garnered significant attention due to its diverse relevance in many situations. In this paper, we propose a Quadratic Programming (QP) based Control Lyapunov Function (CLF) and Control Barrier Function (CBF) framework for circumnavigating stationary and moving targets for single and multiple UAVs while avoiding collision with a known obstacle. By integrating CLF and CBF constraints in a cooperative path-following framework, our approach offers robustness and scalability for complex multi-agent systems, and ensures asymptotic tracking of the target while maintaining closed-loop stability of the error dynamics and safety margins around the obstacle. Through theoretical analysis and simulation studies, we demonstrate the effectiveness and versatility of our proposed framework in challenging environments. © 2024 IEEE.

Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) are a key component of many modern industrial systems. AGVs are supposed to communicate with each other in real time using wireless networks. In this article, the advantages and disadvantages of the ZigBee wireless network related to the control of AGVs are considered. We analyze the performance of the ZigBee network programmed with both C# and Python libraries to control ZigBee devices. The throughput and signal strength are presented and discussed depending on the transmission speed of the serial port, the payload size, and the presence and distance from the obstacles. The results of the experiments show the effective values of these parameters, the methods of using C# and Python, and the reliability of the throughput up to a certain point in network devices. © 2023 IEEE.

The proliferation of wireless technologies and the escalating performance requirements of wireless applications have led to diverse and dynamic wireless environments, presenting formidable challenges to existing radio resource management (RRM) frameworks. Researchers have proposed utilizing deep learning (DL) models to address these challenges to learn patterns from wireless data and leverage the extracted information to resolve multiple RRM tasks, such as channel allocation and power control. However, it is noteworthy that the majority of existing DL architectures are designed to operate on Euclidean data, thereby disregarding a substantial amount of information about the topological structure of wireless networks. As a result, the performance of DL models may be suboptimal when applied to wireless environments due to the failure to capture the network's non-Euclidean geometry. This study presents a novel approach to address the challenge of power control and spectrum allocation in an N-link interference environment with shared channels, utilizing a graph neural network (GNN) based framework. In this type of wireless environment, the available bandwidth can be divided into blocks, offering greater flexibility in allocating bandwidth to communication links, but also requiring effective management of interference. One potential solution to mitigate the impact of interference is to control the transmission power of each link while ensuring the network's data rate performance. Therefore, the power control and spectrum allocation problems are inherently coupled and should be solved jointly. The proposed GNN-based framework presents a promising avenue for tackling this complex challenge. Our experimental results demonstrate that our proposed approach yields significant improvements compared to other existing methods in terms of convergence, generalization, performance, and robustness, particularly in the context of an imperfect channel. © 2023 CCBY.

This manuscript presents the development of a wireless system for fast and accurate heart rate monitoring. The system utilizes Seeed XIAO BLE and MAX86150 components to capture and process the photoplethysmogram (PPG) signal. Real-Time computation of heart rate is achieved through the deployment of a modified HeartPy algorithm on the microcontroller. The accuracy of the system was evaluated through experiments involving six patients, comparing the results with those obtained from a commercial pulse oximeter (A310) by AEON Technology. The Mean Percentage Error values demonstrated a close agreement between the test system and the commercial device, with an error falling within 0.31%. Additionally, the system achieved a 30% to 40% shorter refresh time compared to the commercial pulse oximeter, allowing for more frequent and up-To-date heart rate monitoring. The development of this wireless system contributes to the advancement of healthcare technology, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goal of Good Health and Well-being. Future improvements include incorporating oxygen saturation (SpO2) and electrocardiogram (ECG) detection into the system and designing a compact and portable form factor. By combining fast and accurate heart rate monitoring with wireless data transmission, this system holds promise for enhancing healthcare applications and improving patient well-being. © 2023 IEEE.

To assess the wind power potential of a specific wind site, a suitable distribution function that best suits the wind data needs to be known. In this study, we employ four probability density functions (PDFs), namely Weibull, Rayleigh, Log-Normal, and Gamma, on wind speed data obtained from two coastal cities in Pakistan, Gwadar and Karachi, to check which one is the best suited. Cities along the coastline of Pakistan offer greater wind speeds and, thus, greater wind power potential. The maximum likelihood technique is used to estimate the parameters of the density distributions. Three statistical measures—Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE), Mean Absolute Error (MAE), and Coefficient of Determination (R2)—are used to assess the goodness of fit for every distribution. These measures give a complete picture of every distribution's correctness in terms of reflecting the recorded wind speed patterns. Numerical results reveal that the Weibull distribution fits well with the wind speeds of the two coastal cities compared to the other three probability distributions, providing insightful analysis for the evaluation of wind resources and possible local energy generation. The MATLAB environment is used to compare the distributions and validate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology. ©2024 IEEE.
