In the modern era of rapidly advancing technology, organizations across various sectors are continuously seeking innovative solutions to enhance operational efficiency, streamline processes, and improve overall productivity. One area that significantly impacts these goals is the management of employee/student attendance. Traditional manual attendance tracking methods often lead to inaccuracies, inefficiencies, and increased administrative overhead. Recognizing this challenge, this proposal is to bring forth developing a microcontroller-based implementation of a Fingerprint-Based Attendance System. The system uses the power of biometric authentication to improve how attendance is recorded and managed. Firstly, this system provides real-time attendance tracking, reducing the delay in data processing and enabling immediate access to attendance records. Secondly, the proposed system ensures a high level of accuracy in attendance recording. Thirdly, this system promotes enhanced security. © 2024 IEEE.

In this paper,we present the design and implementation of an avatar-based interactive system that facilitates rehabilitation for people who have received total knee replacement *** system empowers patients to carry out exercises prescribed by a clinician at the home settings more *** system helps improve accountability for both patients and *** primary sensing modality is the Microsoft Kinect sensor,which is a depth camera that comes with a Software Development Kit(SDK).The SDK provides access to 3-dimensional skeleton joint positions to software developers,which significantly reduces the challenges in developing accurate motion tracking systems,especially for use at ***,the Kinect sensor is not wellequipped to track foot orientation and its subtle *** overcome this issue,we augment the system with a commercial off-the-shelf Inertial Measurement Unit(IMU).The two sensing modalities are integrated where the Kinect serves as the primary sensing modality and the IMU is used for exercises where Kinect fails to produce accurate *** this pilot study,we experiment with four rehabilitation exercises,namely,quad set,side-lying hip abduction,straight raise leg,and ankle *** Kinect is used to assess the first three exercises,and the IMU is used to assess the ankle pump exercise.

In this work, we propose a small-size and low-cost phase shifter based on defective microstrip structure (DMS) technique, with a modified reconfigurable unit cell (MRDMS) for WLAN applications at 5.2 GHz. The phase shifter is made up of an MRDMS unit, created by etching slots on a simple microstrip line with an outline of three bridges. To further increase the phase shift, a T-shaped slot is introduced in the central bridge and PIN diodes on the edges of the outer bridges are used. By switching the diodes on and off, the MRDMS unit cell is capable of operating in a variety of different modes to give a phase shift of 37.71° at 5.2 GHz. Additionally, MRDMS unit cells are cascaded for higher phase shift as required. Cascaded two- and four-cell phase shifters were designed and simulated in HFSS and a parametric study on various parameters was conducted to show the detailed operating properties of the proposed phase shifter. Compared to previously reported research, the present study shows that two cascaded phase shifters introduce 75.08° phase shifts and 151.75°, respectively. To the best of our knowledge, this is the maximum phase shift obtained by a phase shifter based on MRDMS. © 2023 IEEE.

Although the building of quantum computers has kept making rapid progress in recent years, noise is still the main challenge for any application to leverage the power of quantum computing. Existing works addressing noise in quantum devices proposed noise reduction when deploying a quantum algorithm to a specified quantum computer. The reproducibility issue of quantum algorithms has been raised since the noise levels vary on different quantum computers. Importantly, existing works largely ignore the fact that the noise of quantum devices varies as time goes by. Therefore, reproducing the results on the same hardware will even become a problem. We analyze the reproducibility of quantum machine learning (QML) algorithms based on daily model training and execution data collection. Our analysis shows a correlation between our QML models' test accuracy and quantum computer hardware's calibration features. We also demonstrate that noisy simulators for quantum computers are not a reliable tool for quantum machine learning applications. © 2023 IEEE.

The pervasive presence of IoT sensing devices combined with advances in cloud-based services has made historical- and forecast weather data services widely available for use in smart software systems. The contribution of this paper is the design, performance evaluation, and validation of a software implementation of model-based dynamic fire risk prediction for wooden homes using local weather data. A key feature of the implementation is that the software architecture has been designed to support the use of different underlying cloud-based weather data services, and the integration as a service in third-party smart systems embedding fire risk predictions. The performed evaluation shows that the implementation is efficient, as weather data can be retrieved, preprocessed and fire risk predictions computed within seconds using only in the order of Kb's of memory;and accurate considering our sets of data, as the fire risks computed by the implementation have been validated against a set of in-situ measurements. © 2024 Elsevier B.V.. Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) are commonly used in data-driven approaches to estimate the Remaining Useful Lifetime (RUL) of power electronic devices. RNNs are preferred because their intrinsic feedback mechanisms are better suited to model time-series data. However, the impact of RNN complexity on estimation accuracy is rarely discussed in the literature. This issue is important because choosing a lower-complexity model that delivers the same or similar performance as a higher-complexity model can increase implementation efficiency. In the paper, we use three RNN models, namely, the vanilla version, LSTM (Long Short Term Memory) and GRU (Gated Recurrent Unit) to conduct RUL estimation for power electronic devices. We use two accelerated aging datasets, one dataset targeting the package failure of MOSFETs, and the other dataset targeting package failure of power diodes. Our study shows that a lower-complexity RNN does not necessarily deliver a lower performance. Similarly, a higher-complexity model does not assure a higher performance. As such, our work highlights the importance of selecting a proper neural network for RUL estimation not biased towards complex models. This is especially useful and important for implementing such RUL estimation techniques in embedded resource-constrained and speed-limited computins platforms.
