In the basic vehicle routing problem (VRP), a vehicle must deliver goods from one centralized warehouse to multiple customers efficiently. Several VRP variants and constraints exist, including different product types, specific delivery times, multiple warehouses, vehicle fuel constraints, and pick-up from one location and delivery to another. This work proposes and demonstrates a flexible algorithm for solving the VRP via ant colony optimization (ACO) that can address many of the variants discussed above. ACO algorithms mimic the behavior of ants, learning optimal paths to a food source and back to the nest based on stigmergic behavior. This work compares a proposed, more flexible ACO algorithm to a traditional optimization algorithm that is implemented in the Google VRP solver. Readily available data were used to test and demonstrate results. Several VRP variants were implemented in both the (proposed) flexible ACO algorithm and the Google VRP solver. The flexible ACO algorithm performed better in terms of distance traveled versus the Google VRP solver for two variants and worse for three other cases. However, the Google VRP solver was not able to solve some of the VRP variant combinations considered here and failed when solving some backhaul datasets. Because the flexible ACO algorithm was able to better handle many case variations, it may be an attractive alternative optimization tool.

This article addresses the challenge of efficiently recovering exact solutions to the optimal power flow problem in real-time electricity markets. The proposed solution, named Physics-Informed Market-Aware Active Set learning OPF (PIMA-AS-OPF), leverages physical constraints and market properties to ensure physical and economic feasibility of market-clearing outcomes. Specifically, PIMA-AS-OPF employs the active set learning technique and expands its capabilities to account for curtailment in load or renewable power generation, which is a common challenge in real-world power systems. The core of PIMA-AS-OPF is a fully-connected neural network that takes the net load and the system topology as input. The outputs of this neural network include active constraints such as saturated generators and transmission lines, as well as non-zero load shedding and wind curtailments. These outputs allow for reducing the original market-clearing optimization to a system of linear equations, which can be solved efficiently and yield both the dispatch decisions and the locational marginal prices (LMPs). The dispatch decisions and LMPs are then tested for their feasibility with respect to the requirements for efficient market-clearing results. The accuracy and scalability of the proposed method is tested on a realistic 1814-bus NYISO system with current and future renewable energy penetration levels. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper presents the design and simulation analysis of load and coupling variations for a current Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) technique, known as Capacitive Power Transfer (CPT). Due to its strength, CPT becomes an effective and essential alternative to conservative technique, which is Inductive Power Transfer (IPT). It can compete IPT in industrial demand since it has a small number of component usage, uncomplicated topology, increases electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding performance and robust to surrounding metallic elements. Class E power amplifier with the presence of LC network circuit is applied in this work as a high frequency ac power source since it has the ability to perform dc-to-ac inversion efficiently. It supports the CPT system to attain a maximum power transmission. MATLAB software is used to design and simulate the proposed CPT circuit;and the analysis is made up from the results. This proposed system able to generate 1W of output power by maintaining up to 98% efficiency at 6.78MHz operating frequency for Biomedical Implantable Device application. The analysis of load variation is in the range of 50Ω until 1kΩ;meanwhile for coupling variation is between 1mm to 15mm. © 2023 IEEE.

Improve Harris Hawkes optimizer algorithm via Laplace crossover

Nowadays, the speed of solving optimization problems by increasing various issues and the number of variables is critical. The Harris Hawk optimization method is a brand-new, intelligent system that resolves optimization issues by mathematically simulating the natural behavior of hawks. In this study, the Harris Hawks optimization method and the Laplace crossover operator are merged, and a new enhanced Harris Hawks algorithm (LX-HHO) based on the Laplace optimization algorithm is suggested. The purpose of improving this algorithm is to increase the convergence speed while maintaining good accuracy in achieving the optimal solution. The results of the proposed method on the test functions demonstrate that the algorithm has achieved faster convergence than the original version of the Harris Hawks algorithm and other meta-heuristic algorithms. This is due to the algorithm's accuracy in obtaining the best answer in these functions and to a reduction in the evaluation of the optimization function. Also, comparing and evaluating the proposed algorithm with other algorithms by Friedman and MAE test shows the superiority of the LX-HHO algorithm. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2024.

In this article, a model of the HVAC system in the service room of a nuclear industrial facility is presented. Two engineering problems have been studied with the heat conduction and flow model. One is that the optimal location of the HVAC system thermostat, what place was determined from the temperature distribution data obtained from the model. The other engineering problem to which the software model was applied was to find an acceptable set of parameters for the PID controller of the HVAC system. Using the simulation data and Ziegler-Nichols method could be set up a good controller and back-checked against the simulation data. The CHeTMoS software - which is under development - was used to solve both engineering problems. It has been demonstrated that the software can be applied to designs that are mostly solved on the basis of practice in the field during the control process. Similar proof procedures are required for nuclear industrial design, for which the CHeTMoS software is suitable. © 2024 IEEE.

Modern dynamical systems are generally non-linear, which make traditional linear controllers infeasible in some cases. To cope with the need for controlling such modern systems, researchers have developed robust nonlinear controllers that leverage function approximators such as neural networks and polynomials. In this work, we investigate one successful nonlinear controller, the SPSA (si-multaneous perturbation stochastic approximation)-based model-free control. We shall make a rigorous performance analysis on a class of nonlinear MIMO systems. As a benchmark, we compare it with PID, one of the most-widely used control technique. © 2023 IEEE.

Marine transportation is still the primary source of global transportation. The propeller, which is a critical component of the propulsion system, must be designed with multiple constraints and objectives to satisfy the need. Recent studies propose that utilizing an improved optimization algorithm and computational analysis would explore better designs than conventional methods. In the present study, the elitist particle swarm optimization (EPSO) technique is implemented to optimize the design of a marine propeller. Potsdam’s Conventional Propeller VP 1304 is used as a benchmark design case. Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes equation-based computational fluid dynamics (CFD) along with vortex lattice method (VLM) and fluid-structure interaction (FSI) model is used for computational analysis. The results obtained in this study are validated against the previously published experimental data. An optimized propeller design is proposed based on the elitist particle swarm optimization technique. It is observed that the proposed design shows improved open water performance for lower advance coefficient (J) values based on the given constraints. It is also observed that open water efficiency is improved by 7% for J=0.6 compared to the original design. The one-way fluid-structure interaction analysis shows that the proposed design is structurally stable under open water test conditions. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.
