New Results on Interval Type-3 Fuzzy Control for Nonlinear Time-Delay Systems Using Convex Relaxation Technique

In this article, the interval type-3 fuzzy-based state feedback control is proposed for the stabilization problem of interval type-3 fuzzy systems (IT3FSs) subject to time-varying delay. Specifically, to improve the model accuracy and control capabilities, we proposed a nonparallel distributed compensation-based controller approach, be precise, the system and controller adopts the distinct membership functions. Moreover, the stability analysis of IT3FSs in the state space form is studied newly in this article. Besides the primary membership function that exists for interval type-2 fuzzy systems (IT2FSs), the IT3FSs possess the secondary membership function to handle the overall uncertainty which enacts the superiority of the proposed work. Notably, the adequate stability criteria are derived in the form of linear matrix inequality (LMI) using the Lyapunov stability theorem. Additionally, the convex relaxation technique is used to strengthen the design flexibility and achieve the faster convergence rate, which converts an optimization problem with a vector variable to a convex program with a matrix variable, via a lifting technique. A noteworthy aspect is that the application of the convex relaxation technique in the context of IT3FSs is proposed for the first time in literature. Finally, the comparative results between IT2FSs and IT3FSs are shown via two illustrative examples, including the inverted-pendulum model, to underscore the efficacy and practical implementations of the developed control methodology. © 2013 IEEE.

Transformer-based mass detection in digital mammograms

In the last decade, Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have been the de facto approach for automated medical image detection. Recently, Vision Transformers have emerged in computer vision as an alternative to CNNs. Specifically, the Shifted Window (Swin) Transformer is a general-purpose backbone that learns attention-based hierarchical features and achieves state-of-the-art performances in a variety of vision tasks. In this work, for the first time, we design and experiment transformer-based models for mass detection in digital mammograms leveraging Swin transformer as a backbone multiscale feature extractor. Experiments on the largest publicly available mammography image database OMI-DB yield a True Positive Rate (TPR) of 75.7 % at 0.1 False Positives per Image (FPpI) for the best transformer model, with 2.5 % TPR improvement over its convolutional counterpart and a massive 7.4 % TPR over the state-of-the-art. We also combine transformer- and convolution-based detectors with weighted box fusion, achieving an additional 2.4 % TPR improvement reaching 78.1 % TPR at 0.1 FPpI. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

This paper addresses the output tracking control problem and lumped disturbance rejections for nonlinear cyber-physical systems described by fuzzy model systems with parametric uncertainties, external disturbances and cyber attacks. Especially, to assure both the robust tracking and lumped disturbance estimation performances, an uncertainty and disturbance estimator (UDE)-based modified repetitive control (MRC) protocol is devised for the addressed control system. In detail, the impact of unpredictable factors, such as disturbances and uncertainties in the system model is robustly tackled by the UDE method with an appropriate filter. To be specific, the MRC protocol is amalgamated into the UDE technique for estimating the changes that occur in the afore-said unpredictable factors to ensure the asymptotic tracking performance of the system under study. Notably, to improve the tracking precision, the parallel distributed compensation strategy and the estimated lumped disturbance signal are incorporated into the control design. Meanwhile, the cyber attacks are depicted in this study as a stochastic variable that adheres to the Bernoulli distribution. Further, the required controller gain matrices are determined to affirm the robust asymptotic tracking performances with the aid of Lyapunov stability theory. Eventually, the method proposed in this paper is validated through the simulation results with two numerical examples, which include the continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR) plant model. Further, the result reveals that the proposed control law provides the minimum tracking error when compared with an existing work. © 2022 The Franklin Institute

Fire detection is crucial in natural disaster prevention, but the limited computational resources of Internet of Things (IoT) devices impose strict requirements for lightweight and efficient models. This study aims to evaluate and compare the performance of various object detection models for fire detection to optimize model selection in resource-constrained environments. We selected the YOLOv8 series, YOLOv10 series, and our improved MobileNetV3-YOLOv8n and MobileNetV3-YOLOv10n models for evaluation. The results demonstrate that the MobileNetV3-YOLOv8n model achieves the best overall performance, followed by the YOLOv8n and MobileNetV3-YOLOv10n models. Sensitivity analysis confirms the stability of these results under minor variations in metric weights, particularly within the top three rankings. On the basis of these findings, we provide specific model selection recommendations for IoT devices with varying computational capabilities. © 2024 IEEE.

How well can we approximate a quantum channel output state using a random codebook with a certain size? In this work, we study the quantum soft covering problem, which uses a pairwise-independent random codebook to approximate the target output state of a quantum channel. We establish a one-shot error exponent bound and a one-shot strong converse bound on the approximation error measured in terms of the expected trace distance between the codebook-induced state and the true channel output state. When using independent and identically-distributed random codebook with a rate above the quantum mutual information I(X:B)ρ , we prove that the error decays exponentially with its error exponent expressed by the sandwiched Rényi information. On the other hand, when the rate of the codebook size is below the quantum mutual information, the error converges to one exponentially fast. Similar results are obtained using a random constant composition codebook, whereas the sandwiched Augustin information gives the error exponent. In addition to the above large deviation analysis, our results also hold in the moderate deviation regime. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Deep Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have made significant advancements in Infant Facial Expression Recognition (FER) tasks. However, conventional methods for emotion recognition face challenges such as sample imbalance, lack of diversity, large model parameters, long training times, and low accuracy. In response, we propose an approach for infant facial expression recognition based on an improved VGG19 (Visual Geometry Group) network. Our approach utilizes the ImageDataGenerator data augmentation technique to enhance data diversity, and we also introduce architectural improvements to the model and design a custom loss function. After numerous experiments and research iterations, our experimental findings demonstrate that this approach not only reduces training time but also significantly reduces the number of model parameters while slightly improving accuracy. Most importantly, we successfully applied the enhanced model to a parenting support system and were able to provide strong support for real-life infant emotion analysis and recognition. This research outcome holds significant implications for the fields of infant care and emotion detection. © 2024 ACM.
