This paper deals with the filtering problem for a class of continuous-time descriptor systems with Markovian jumping parameters. The purpose of the problem addressed is to design a reduced-order filter such that the dynamics of each estimation error is guaranteed to be exponentially stable in the mean square. Sufficient conditions for the existence of such reduced-order filters are given, which are described by a set of linear matrix inequalities. An example is presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

It is shown how the existing theory of the dynamic Kerr effect and nonlinear dielectric relaxation based on the noninertial Brownian rotation of noninteracting rigid dipolar particles may be generalized to take into account interparticle interactions using the Maier-Saupe mean field potential. The results (available in simple closed form) suggest that the frequency dependent nonlinear response provides a method of measuring the Kramers escape rate (or in the analogous problem of magnetic relaxation of fine single domain ferromagnetic particles, the superparamagnetic relaxation time).

Transmultiplexing as a method of multiple-access in 4G-system is suggested in this paper. Every existing linear method of multiple-access can be treated as a specific transmultiplexer. Moreover, transmultiplexing realizes the idea of intelligent network and reprogrammable electronic devices. The presented method uses perfect reversible integer-to-integer filter banks which have been attracting growing interest. Signals are then invertible in finite-precision arithmetics and map integers to integers. Due to this property, transmultiplexers of this type have important advantages: they can be applied for transmitting lossless compressed signals, minimal memory is needed and complexity of computations can be low.

We investigate the theory of the finite discrete Heisenberg-Weyl group in relation to the development of adaptive radar. We contend that this group can form the basis for the representation of the radar environment in terms of operators on the space of waveforms. We also demonstrate, following recent developments in the theory of error correcting codes, that the finite discrete Heisenberg-Weyl group provides a unified basis for the construction of useful waveforms/sequences for radar, communications and the theory of error correcting codes.

This paper works on the stochastic stabilization of an interconnected Markovian jump system. The stabilization is implemented by means of a decentralized observer-based output control with sector nonlinearities. The resulting closed-loop system tolerates some failures of control components and/or control saturation, etc. Based on Lyapunov method a sufficient condition of solvability for the problem is presented. An algorithm for designing of the observer-based output feedback controller is given in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs).

A new and efficient method of designing the transmultiplexer filters is presented. The bilinear equations posed for the FIR filters are solved to achieve perfect reconstruction. For a given combining filter bank a separation filter bank can be developed by solving a set of algebraic equations. Some examples of a two-channel and four-channel transmultiplexer system are provided to illustrate the method of filter bank designing. Due to the incorporation of integer filters a perfect reconstruction was realized and crosstalk was completely eliminated not only theoretically but also in practice. Such transmultiplexers can be applied to coded signals transmission. It is pointed that the orthogonal filters can be obtained as well.

We study the transition from incoherence to coherence in large networks of coupled phase oscillators. We present various approximations that describe the behavior of an appropriately defined order parameter past the transition and generalize recent results for the critical coupling strength. We find that, under appropriate conditions, the coupling strength at which the transition occurs is determined by the largest eigenvalue of the adjacency matrix. We show how, with an additional assumption, a mean-field approximation recently proposed is recovered from our results. We test our theory with numerical simulations and find that it describes the transition when our assumptions are satisfied. We find that our theory describes the transition well in situations in which the mean-field approximation fails. We study the finite-size effects caused by nodes with small degree and find that they cause the critical coupling strength to increase.

A practicable educational contents sharing system utilizing Knoppix Edu series is described. Knoppix Edu means "Knoppix for Education". Knoppix Edu is a customized version of original Knoppix by authors. Some cases applied to electronics engineering field's education in university and high schools are reported in this paper. Knoppix is a bootable Linux CD with a collection of so called open source software (OSS). Knoppix Edu itself has an automatic hardware detection system and supports for many devices and other peripherals. Since it is not necessary to install anything on a hard disk, low cost and high portability are expected. This is a great feature for educational use. The more important point is that customization and redistribution are permitted, therefore, every school or class can make their original Knoppix and share educational contents each other. By using this Knoppix Edu system, great advantages in academic education are confirmed and Inter-school educational contents sharing network could be established.
