This book includes selected papers from VISIGRAPP 2007, the Joint Conference on Computer Vision and Computer Graphics, comprising two component conferences, namely, the International Conference on Computer Vision Theory and Applications (VISAPP) and the International Conference on Computer Graphics Theory and App- cations (GRAPP), held in Barcelona, Spain, during March 8–11, 2007. We received quite a high number of paper submissions: 382 in total for both conf- ences. We had contributions from more than 50 countries in all five continents. This confirms the success and global dimension of these jointly organized conferences. After a rigorous double-blind evaluation method, a total of 78 submissions were accepted as full papers. From those, 18 got selected for inclusion in this book. To ensure the sci- tific quality of the contributions, these were selected from papers that were evaluated with the highest scores by the VISIGRAPP Program Committee members and then they were extended and revised by the authors. Special thanks go to all contributors and re- rees, without whom this book would not have been possible. VISIGRAPP 2007 included four invited keynote lectures, presented by internati- ally recognized researchers. The presentations represented an important contribution to increasing the overall quality of the conference. We would like to express our - preciation to all invited keynote speakers, in alphabetical order: Jake K. Aggarwal (The University of Texas at Austin/USA), André Gagalowicz (INRIA/France), Wo- gang Heidrich (University of British Columbia/Canada), Mel Slater (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya/Spain).

The International Conference on intelligent Computing (ICIC) was formed to provide an annual forum dedicated to the emerging and challenging topics in artificial intel- gence, machine learning, pattern recognition, image processing, bioinformatics, and computational biology. It aims to bring together researchers and practitioners from both academia and industry to share ideas, problems, and solutions related to the m- tifaceted aspects of intelligent computing. ICIC 2010, held in Changsha, China, August 18-21, 2010, constituted the 6th - ternational Conference on intelligent Computing. It built upon the success of ICIC 2009, ICIC 2008, ICIC 2007, ICIC 2006, and ICIC 2005, that were held in Ulsan, Korea, Shanghai, Qingdao, Kunming and Hefei, China, respectively. This year, the conference concentrated mainly on the theories and methodologies as well as the emerging applications of intelligent computing. Its aim was to unify the picture of contemporary intelligent computing techniques as an integral concept that highlights the trends in advanced computational intelligence and bridges theoretical research with applications. Therefore, the theme for this conference was “Advanced intelligent Computing Technology and Applications.” Papers focusing on this theme were solicited, addressing theories, methodologies, and applications in science and technology.

The series Advances in Industrial Control aims to report and encourage technology transfer in control engineering. The rapid development of control technology has an impact on all areas of the control discipline. New theory, new controllers, actuators, sensors, new industrial processes, computer methods, new applications, new philosophies , new challenges. Much of this development work resides in industrial reports, feasibility study papers and the reports of advanced collaborative projects. The series offers an opportunity for researchers to present an extended exposition of such new work in all aspects of industrial control for wider and rapid dissemination. In some areas of manufacturing, the elements of a flexible manufacturing system form the key components of the process line. These key components are four-fold: a set of programmable robots and machines, an automated materia- handling system that allows parts to be freely routed and re-routed, a buffer storage system where parts and partly-assembled components can wait until required for further processing and assembly and finally, a supervisory control system. The technology employed to coordinate and control all these components as a working system is usually based on programmable logic controllers. The use of this automation hardware and software in manufacturing is designed to yield significant cost reductions and to enhance quality.

intelligent micromachines, with dimensions ranging from a few millimeters down to hundreds of nanometers, are miniature systems capable of performing specific tasks autonomously at small scales. Enhancing the intelligence of micromachines to tackle the uncertainty and variability in complex microenvironments has applications in minimally invasive medicine, bioengineering, water cleaning, analytical chemistry, and more. Over the past decade, significant progress has been made in the construction of intelligent micromachines, evolving from simple micromachines to soft, compound, reconfigurable, encodable, multifunctional, and integrated micromachines, as well as from individual to multiagent, multiscale, hierarchical, self-organizing, and swarm micromachines. The field leverages two important trends in robotics research—the miniaturization and intelligentization of machines—but a compelling combination of these two features has yet to be realized. The core technologies required to make such tiny machines intelligent include information media, transduction, processing, exchange, and energy supply, but embedding all of these functions into a system at the micro- or nanoscale is challenging. This article offers a comprehensive introduction to the state-of-the-art technologies used to create intelligence for micromachines and provides insight into the construction of next-generation intelligent micromachines that can adapt to diverse scenarios for use in emerging fields.

The rapid advancements in big data and the Internet of Things (IoT) have significantly accelerated the digital transformation of medical institutions, leading to the widespread adoption of Digital Twin Healthcare (DTH). The Cloud DTH Platform (CDTH) serves as a cloud-based framework that integrates DTH models, healthcare resources, patient data, and medical services. By leveraging real-time data from medical devices, the CDTH platform enables intelligent healthcare services such as disease prediction and medical resource optimization. However, the platform functions as a system of systems (SoS), comprising interconnected yet independent healthcare services. This complexity is further compounded by the integration of both black-box AI models and domain-specific mechanistic models, which pose challenges in ensuring the interpretability and trustworthiness of DTH models. To address these challenges, we propose a Model-Based systemsengineering (MBSE)-driven DTH modeling methodology derived from systematic requirement and functional analyses. To implement this methodology effectively, we introduce a DTH model development approach using the X language, along with a comprehensive toolchain designed to streamline the development process. Together, this methodology and toolchain form a robust framework that enables engineers to efficiently develop interpretable and trustworthy DTH models for the CDTH platform. By integrating domain-specific mechanistic models with AI algorithms, the framework enhances model transparency and reliability. Finally, we validate our approach through a case study involving elderly patient care, demonstrating its effectiveness in supporting the development of DTH models that meet healthcare and interpretability requirements.
