Distributed Adaptive Estimation Scheme for Isolation of Sensor Faults in Multi-zone HVAC systems

This paper presents a model-based distributed scheme with emphasis on the isolation of sensor faults in multi-zone heating, ventilating and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems. A bank of local sensor fault detection and isolation agents are designed to diagnose sensor faults in a HVAC system, modeled as a set of interconnected, nonlinear subsystems. Each agent consists of the local sensor fault detection and adaptive estimation scheme for isolation of sensor faults. Detection and isolation signals are generated based on analytical redundancy relations. These signals are provided to a local decision logic in order to distinguish between local and propagated sensor faults. Simulation results are used to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology applied to a four-zone HVAC system. © 2015

The objective of this work is to analyze the performance of the local monitoring modules of a distributed diagnosis scheme tailored to detect multiple sensor faults in a class of nonlinear systems. The local modules monitor the healthy operation of subsets of sensors (local sensor sets). Every module is designed to detect the occurrence of faults in the local sensor sets when some analytical redundancy relations (ARRs) are violated. The set of ARRs is formulated using structured residuals and adaptive thresholds based on a nonlinear observer. In order to characterize the sensitivity of every monitoring module to local sensor faults, we obtain structural fault detectability conditions based on adaptive thresholds, and strong fault detectability conditions based on ultimate robust positively invariant sets. These conditions correspond to explicit relationships between the local sensor faults, the worst-case bounds on modeling uncertainties and the design parameters of the local monitoring module. © 2015

This paper studies the problem of robust decentralized control for a class of large-scale interconnected systems subject to uncertainties and disturbances via a generalized active disturbance rejection control method. First, a novel extended state observer(ESO) is constructed separately for each subsystem with less dependence of the precise system information and structure. Second, an explicit formula of the decentralized active disturbance rejection control(DADRC) law is presented by utilizing the output feedback domination approach. It is shown that by a delicate analysis procedure, the closed-loop system can be rendered semi-globally asymptotically stable only using decentralized output feedback anti-disturbance controller. Numerical simulations show the efficiency of the proposed method.

Networks have become an influential part of our society. New social ties are being formed or existing ties are removed in social networks. Technological networks, such as the Internet and power grid are heavily relied upon to perform daily tasks, and biological networks inspire us to develop and optimize processes. Much of the existing studies consider networks as unweighted graphs, predominantly because of lack of data and tools. However, weights influence the importance of nodes or links in a network, and considering the weights is realistic in graph analysis. Orthogonal to the weighted graphs, the evolution of graphs can help us predict the future state of a network. In this paper, we study the evolution of global petroleum exchange as a weighted graph. We analyze 17 years of global petroleum imports and exports data between all counties with samples and show that the countries' import and export increased. We also rank the most important countries according to important graph centrality metrics and our rankings vary based on the metric being used. The evolution of the global petroleum exchange graph represents that new ties between countries formed and the graph size increased. © 2015 IEEE.

Transmission line parameters are affected by several factors, such as ambient temperature, mutual coupling of parallel lines, and erroneous transmission line length. Further, the several joints, especially at the line ends, cause additional changes in the calculated line parameters. These factors are rarely taken into consideration resulting to obsolete line parameter databases. The error that is encompassed in the values of the transmission line parameters can be up to 30% of their nominal value. In this paper, a methodology for estimating the actual parameters of transmission lines represented as a nominal pi model is proposed. In this methodology the PMU measurements at the one end of the line and the estimated states from a hybrid state estimator for the other end of the line are required. The proposed methodology is applied to the IEEE 14 bus system and the results are demonstrated in this paper.

In this work, a node architecture based on wavelength selective switches with feedback loop attenuators that can be used as power equalizers, as well as an optimization algorithm are utilized in order to minimize the impact of physical layer jamming attacks in optical networks, while also minimizing the capital expenditure (Capex) of the network. Due to crosstalk-induced interactions among different connections, malicious high-power jamming signals can potentially spread widely in the network. Therefore, it is necessary to design an optical network in a way that the spread of an attack is minimized. This is achieved in this work by the design of appropriate power equalizer placement and attack-aware Routing and Wavelength Assignment (RWA) algorithms in the form of Integer Linear Program (ILP) formulations. Performance results indicate that the proposed algorithms minimize the number of required equalizers for zero lightpath interactions without the need of additional wavelength resources.

Camera Sensor Networks (CSN) are becoming increasingly popular in a variety of security and safety-critical applications including public space surveillance, monitoring of attack-sensitive facilities, and critical infrastructure protection. Cameras in such networks are equipped with high-resolution visual sensors and on-board processors, while featuring wireless communication capabilities. These features enable the execution of various tasks, such as area coverage, activity recognition and target tracking, in a cooperative fashion. However, the performance of CSN may be compromised when faults occur, either due to unintentional software and hardware faults or as the result of a malicious attack. Paving the way for fault tolerance in CSN-based target tracking, we introduce a flexible fault model that can be used to generate different types of erroneous behaviour, thus simulating realistic faults in CSN. We also propose a fault-tolerant decentralized solution for tracking a target that passes through the area monitored by the CSN. Our simulation results indicate that the proposed solution is able to track the target reliably despite the presence of faults.
