Channel coding in sixth-generation (6G) networks must attain exceptionally low bit error rate (BER), typically in the range of 10-6 to 10-9, to ensure the requisite level of reliability. While fifth-generation (5G) New Radio (NR) coding techniques have made substantial progress, the inherent limitations of the low error floor impede the attainment of such stringent BER targets. Compared to the low-density parity check (LDPC) codes employed in 5G communications, generalized low-density parity check (GLDPC) codes offer a more advantageous trade-off between computational complexity and error correction performance in 6G networks. GLDPC codes enhance traditional LDPC structures by incorporating more complex local decoding units within their check nodes. When coupled with cryptographic techniques, GLDPC codes can establish a robust information security framework. In this paper, we propose a new security-based GLDPC that uses a number of BCH matrices for the GLDPC decoding process combined with the Kyber algorithm (BCH-based KyGLDPC) before transmitting data to increase reliability and solve the security problem against quantum computer attacks. The system's performance is assessed using both image data and data encrypted prior to transmission in a white additive Gaussian noise environment. The results indicate that the system provides strong error correction and data security. © 2025 IEEE.

Effective energy storage system (ESS) management is critical for enhancing the performance of standalone DC microgrids, particularly when integrating renewable energy sources such as photovoltaic (PV) or wind systems. This research describes a new hybrid control technique to improve DC microgrid operations' efficiency and resiliency, especially when handling critical loads. This research presents a hybrid closed-loop control technique that uses Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) and Proportional-Integral (PI) controllers to address the complex issues of dynamic load situations and transient disturbances. The RNN evaluates voltage errors to generate accurate reference currents, which the PI controllers then adjust to improve the performance of the bidirectional converter. Unlike standard PI-PI controls, our hybrid approach is particularly effective at regulating pulsed power loads (PPLs) and enhancing system response to transitory situations. The experimental results show that the RNN-PI control scheme significantly improves voltage regulation and transient responsiveness, exceeding conventional performance and resilience techniques. This approach provides a convincing solution for enhancing microgrid systems' stability and efficiency in various real-world applications.

Amorphous indium gallium zinc oxide (a-IGZO)-based thin film transistors (TFTs) are increasingly becoming popular because of their potential in futuristic applications, including CMOS technology. Given the demand for CMOS-compatible, ultra-scaled, reliable, and high-performing devices, we fabricate and analyze scaled-channel a-IGZO-TFTs with an optimal double-gate structure, a thin nanosheet-based channel, and an effective high- κ dielectric namely HfO2. The reliably reported double gate IGZO nanosheet TFTs (DG-IGZO-NS-TFTs) are tested under positive and negative bias stress at variant temperatures, and the resulting modulations are analyzed critically. The reported DG-IGZO-NSTFTs exhibit a negative side threshold voltage shift (Δ Vth) accompanied by an increase in Ion/Ion(0) under negative bias temperature stress (NBTS) at elevated temperatures, which indicates the presence of additional charges. An anomalous negative side shifting of the Vth is observed under positive bias temperature stress (PBTS), where diffused hydrogen atoms are identified as introducing excess n-type carriers into the channel and causing the observed Δ Vth. The spectroscopic analysis is performed to establish evidence for the assumed mechanisms, and the role of individual gates is investigated in the context of performance variance under temperature-bias stress. Moreover, the partial reversibility of the stress-induced degradation is experimentally established and methodically discussed. Overall, the reported results offer a comprehensive understanding of scaled-channel DG-NS-IGZO-TFTs, which help shape performance-enhancement strategies, control degradation mechanisms, and define appropriate application scenarios. © 2013 IEEE.

Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) provides useful insights into the brain function both during task or rest. Representing fMRI data using correlation matrices is found to be a reliable method of analyzing the inherent connectivity of the brain in the resting and active states. Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) have been widely used for brain network analysis due to their inherent explainability capability. In this work, we introduce a novel framework using contrastive self-supervised learning graph transformers, incorporating a brain network transformer encoder with random graph alterations. The proposed network leverages both contrastive learning and graph alterations to effectively train the graph transformer for autism detection. Our approach, tested on Autism Brain Imaging Data Exchange (ABIDE) data, demonstrates superior autism detection, achieving an AUROC of 82.6 and an accuracy of 74%, surpassing current state-of-the-art methods. © 2025 IEEE.

The European directives focus on unlocking the potential of final customers in the clean energy transition. With the recent trend of rising electricity and petrol prices, coupled with reduced investment costs in low-carbon technologies, the installation of photovoltaic solar panels for end customers has become more profitable compared to previous years, leading to a shorter payback period. Additionally, to enhance citizen engagement in the integration of renewable energy sources, various forms of local energy-sharing models are discussed in the literature. This paper elaborates on the regulatory framework and policies at the European level concerning renewable energy communities, citizen energy communities, and collective self-consumption, with a particular focus on Croatia’s perspective. It highlights the steps needed to accelerate the realization of energy communities in practice. Under current Croatian regulations, the profit from selling surplus community energy to the supplier cannot be directly remunerated to community members. The results indicate that community members could achieve 20% lower electricity costs annually if the surplus energy were directly remunerated. To avoid losing potential profits from excess energy, the paper models an investment in a community-owned battery storage system, aiming to increase community self-consumption and minimize the amount of energy sold to suppliers. It is shown that with a static sharing scheme, individual community members’ costs can decrease by 11% to 16%, and by up to 20% with a dynamic scheme compared to cases where profit from excess energy cannot be directly remunerated to community members.

The Distributed Sensing and computing Over Sparse Environments (DISCOVER) testbed is a pioneering cyberinfrastructure initiative designed to advance research in distributed computing and networking tailored to rural, remote, and sparsely populated regions. Supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF), DISCOVER integrates a network of configurable Internet-of-Things (IoT) nodes—including stationary sensors, drones, and terrestrial rovers—across three key sites: Northern Arizona University (NAU), Clemson University, and Navajo Technical University (NTU). This collaboration offers a unique platform to explore innovative algorithms and methodologies addressing the technical challenges of under-served areas, with an emphasis on environmental and civil disaster response. The testbed enables a wide range of experiments, such as regional-scale data collection, heterogeneous networked services, distributed artificial intelligence (AI), distributed multi-robot control, and communication-aware software for resource-constrained networks. An online portal enhances accessibility, allowing researchers to request resources, upload experimental code, and retrieve data, with pre-integrated deep learning models for applications like human posture detection, object detection, and wildfire detection. This paper outlines the testbed’s architecture, operational sites, supported experiment types, ongoing research efforts, and its educational and outreach impacts, highlighting its role in fostering scientific innovation.

This research analyses the complex dynamics of Cyber-Physical-Social systems (CPSS), encompassing cyber-physical systems, cybersecurity, the Internet of Things (IoT), and social media. Composite materials have extensively been used in the aerospace industry. There are several inspection methods to ensure the safety of these composites;pulse thermography (PT) is one of the most promising ones. Both reflection and transmission modes of PT could be applied. However, few studies reveal the advantages and disadvantages of these two modes. This paper presents a quantitative comparison of pulsed thermal imaging in two modes of reflection and gradual heat transfer in carbon fibres. Experimental work was conducted on carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) samples with different thicknesses and thermal images were recorded in both modes. Thermal images were further processed using statistical analysis and machine learning algorithms. Comparing the results from both modes, there is a marked improvement in the accuracy when the reflection mode is employed. © 2023 SPIE.

Proper control and energy management is crucial for the effective, practical, and reliable operation of DC microgrids. In DC microgrids, the high certainties of renewables and the dynamic behavior of particular loads propose different modeling, operation, and control challenges. With recent advancements in information and communication technologies offering energy solution services relying on data analytics, machine learning (ML), and IoT technologies, the concept of digital twins (DT) has emerged as a feasible and active model to enhance the operation and resilience of microgrids. This paper proposes a long short-term memory (LSTM) neural networkbased strategy to construct a data-driven digital twin (DT) model of DC microgrids. The model is tested and validated with a standalone DC MG containing Renewable Energy Sources (RES), Energy Storage Sources (ESSs), and different load types. The accuracy of the created twin model is tested and evaluated under different scenarios of the microgrid operation, such as a sudden decrease in renewable generation and energizing pulsed load to the MG.
