The integration of communication networks within modern power systems enhances the control of modern power systems; however, it increases the system's complexity. This interdependence raises the need to analyze power systems as cyber-physical systems (CPS). Microgrids (MGs) play a vital role in modern power systems, facilitating sustainable operation while decreasing the reliance on the main grid. Different distributed energy resources can be integrated by utilizing power electronics inverters working under grid-forming mode; this configuration forms the inverter-based autonomous AC microgrids. Droop control as a primary control layer is a wellknown technique that enables power-sharing among the various resources within the inverter-based MG. However, it has a limitation in keeping the system voltage and frequency constant. Thus, a secondary control layer is introduced to compensate for the droop limitations. This paper presents an innovative study that considers the communication network performance while studying the control of MGs through a cyber hardware-in-theloop (Cyber-HIL) autonomous inverter-based MG framework that integrates Opal-rt, network simulator ns-3, and docker containers. The effectiveness of the designed MG system equipped with its primary and the developed centralized secondary control system, in addition to the quality of service (QoS) of the designed communication network emulation, are presented in the experimental results.

The Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm is drastically changing our world by making everyday objects an integral part of the Internet. This transformation is increasingly being adopted in the healthcare sector, where Smart Hospitals are now relying on IoT technologies to track staff, patients, devices, and equipment, both within a hospital and beyond. This paradigm opens the door to new innovations for creating novel types of interactions among objects, services, and people in smarter ways to enhance the quality of patient services and the efficient utilisation of resources. However, the realisation of real-time IoT applications in health care and, ultimately, the development of Smart Hospitals are constrained by their current Cloud-based computing environment. Edge computing emerged as a new computing model that harnesses Edge-based resources alongside Clouds for real-time IoT applications. It helps to capitalise on the potential economic impact of the IoT paradigm of $11 trillion per year, with a trillion IoT devices deployed by 2025 to sense, manage, and monitor the hospital systems in real time. This vision paper proposes new algorithms and software systems to tackle important challenges in Edge computing-enabled Smart Hospitals, including how to manage and execute diverse real-time IoT applications and how to meet their diverse and strict Quality of Service (QoS) requirements in hospital settings. This article focuses on filter-level network pruning. A novel pruning method, termed CLR-RNF, is proposed. We first reveal a 'long-tail' pruning problem in magnitude-based weight pruning methods and then propose a computation-aware measurement for individual weight importance, followed by a cross-layer ranking (CLR) of weights to identify and remove the bottom-ranked weights. Consequently, the per-layer sparsity makes up the pruned network structure in our filter pruning. Then, we introduce a recommendation-based filter selection scheme where each filter recommends a group of its closest filters. To pick the preserved filters from these recommended groups, we further devise a ${k}$ -reciprocal nearest filter (RNF) selection scheme where the selected filters fall into the intersection of these recommended groups. Both our pruned network structure and the filter selection are nonlearning processes, which, thus, significantly reduces the pruning complexity and differentiates our method from existing works. We conduct image classification on CIFAR-10 and ImageNet to demonstrate the superiority of our CLR-RNF over the state-of-the-arts. For example, on CIFAR-10, CLR-RNF removes 74.1% FLOPs and 95.0% parameters from VGGNet-16 with even 0.3% accuracy improvements. On ImageNet, it removes 70.2% FLOPs and 64.8% parameters from ResNet-50 with only 1.7% top-five accuracy drops. Our project is available at https://***/lmbxμCLR-RNF. © 2012 IEEE.

Buildings equipped with battery energy storages (BES), thermal energy storages (TES), Photovoltaics (PV), solar thermal collectors (STC) and modulating heat pumps (HP) can significantly enhance the energy management potential. The energy management systems are mainly based on self-consumption maximization (SCM) and time-of-use arbitrage (ToUA). In terms of electricity pricing, dynamic pricing policies with two, three tariff zones or real-time pricing (RTP) are mostly applied. In this study, different control algorithms based on the concepts of SCM and ToUA are evaluated for a complex energy system consisted of BES, TES, PV, STC and HPs with variable-speed compressors. The performance of the proposed energy management strategies is assessed under ToU and RTP pricing regimes. © 2022 IEEE.

The gradual decommissioning of fossil fuel-driven power plants, that traditionally provide most operational flexibility in power systems, has led to more frequent grid stability issues. To compensate for the lack of flexible resources, Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) in distribution networks can be employed. To facilitate the use of DERs, the aggregated flexibility in a distribution grid is commonly represented on a PQ-plane displaying the feasible active and reactive power exchange with the upstream grid. This paper proposes a fast feasible operating region mapping mechanism that utilizes a linear power flow approximation in combination with linearized generator, current, and voltage constraints to construct a high-dimensional polyhedral feasible set of DER power injections. The obtained polytope is projected onto the PQ-plane using Fourier-Motzkin Elimination to represent the aggregate network flexibility. Additionally, uncertainty in DER generation is addressed using chance-constraints. Our analysis of a modified 33-bus IEEE test system demonstrates that the proposed method obtains more accurate approximations than former geometric methods and is ten times faster than the tested optimization-based method. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper focuses on the effects of dielectric strength on transformer oil reliability and on a reproduction of a voltage breakdown simulation during a dielectric strength test. A typical Foster test cell was used in order to measure the dielectric strength of a variety of oils. For a more complete picture, it requires the identification of more parameters but this paper examines only the above one as a result of the operation of a testing apparatus. It is shown that FEM/FDM analysis provides same information for the electrode gap. Bruce electrode provides highly uniform electric field. Factors such as voltage rate, relaxation time between measurements as well as the shape of the testing electrodes influences the dielectric strength of the liquid. © 2021 School of Science, IHU. With the commercial realization of the fifth generation (5G) wireless networks, the development of the sixth generation (6G) wireless networks has attracted considerable research attention. To meet the requirement of providing ubiquitous coverage, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) plays the key role in extending the line-of-sight area, and thus, has been proposed as a promising candidate technique in 6G wireless networks However, how to design an optimal UAV trajectory when it is moving and communicating with a base station or a mobile user in the network and how to guarantee the stability of the UAV's trajectory remain open problems. To address these issues, in this paper we design an optimal UAV trajectory, obtain the expression of the UAV's trajectory error, and propose a stability analysis mechanism to show that the UAV trajectory error is globally and asymptotically stable. First, we design the UAV optimal trajectory to maximize the communication performance while minimizing the energy consumption. Then, we derive a closed-form expression for the UAV trajectory in the transient state, which results in major trajectory errors, including the critical damping, underdamping, and overdamping. Third, we employ the control Lyapunov function to show that our developed UAV trajectory error correction scheme is globally and asymptotically stable under the feedback control law. Finally, we use numerical analyses to validate and evaluate our proposed UAV trajectory error control scheme. © 2022 IEEE.

Improved Feed-Forward Control of Active Power Decoupler for PV Microinverter With Non-Sinusoidal Power Decoupling Capability

In single-phase power conversion systems, there is an inherent difference between the dc-side constant and ac-side oscillating power, and power decoupling is required especially in applications like photovoltaic (PV) inverters. Active power decoupling (APD) converters are often used to balance instantaneous power while reducing the size of dc link capacitors and improving the system reliability. Conventionally, APD converters are controlled to decouple only sinusoidal power at double-line frequency. However, the control is further complicated when non-sinusoidal power is delivered due to non-linear circuit components, non-linear loads, or grid distortions. This paper proposes an improved feed-forward APD control scheme with the capability of decoupling non-sinusoidal power, which has application in single-phase systems, particularly all types of PV microinverters. The proposed feed-forward control includes the capacitor voltage calculation under arbitrary power harmonics and a dead-time compensation to increase the accuracy of duty prediction. The proposed algorithm can work as open-loop control to eliminate APD sensors and can serve as a feed-forward term in closed-loop control to improve power decoupling performance, thereby simplifying the controller design. The proposed approach is experimentally verified using a dc-parallel APD prototype, a 50 V 250 W microinverter with non-linear ac capacitor, and a diode rectifier load. © 1986-2012 IEEE.

Reverberation is ubiquitous in everyday listening environments, from meeting rooms to concert halls and recording studios. While reverberation is usually described by the reverberation time, getting further insight concerning the characteristics of a room requires to conduct acoustic measurements and calculate each reverberation parameter manually. In this study, we propose ReverbNet, an end-to-end deep learning-based system to non-intrusively estimate multiple reverberation parameters from a single speech utterance. The proposed approach is evaluated using simulated room reverberation by two popular effect processors. We show that the proposed approach can jointly estimate multiple reverberation parameters from speech signals and can generalise to unseen speakers and diverse simulated environments. The results also indicate that the use of multiple branches disentangles the embedding space from misalignments between input features and subtasks. © (2022) by the Audio engineering Society All rights reserved.
