In this paper, real-time operation and harmonic analysis of isolated and non-isolated DC microgrid including hybrid energy sources and various loading schemes is investigated. The proposed microgrid is supplied by an internal generator and via AC grid, while a supercapacitor bank, as power buffer, fulfills the high power requirement of the DC grid. An energy management algorithm based on the master-slave control is proposed, in which the supercapacitor bank, as the master, control the DC bus voltage while the other units are working in current control to share the required power. Different operation mode based on various power sharing patterns is defined and the experimental test is carried out for both isolated and non-isolated DC grid. Results show that the proposed energy management algorithm properly shares power and control the voltage. Moreover, the isolation of the DC microgrid highly effect on the harmonic content of the current depending on the power sharing pattern.

This paper introduces a new concept on sub-wavelength resolution imaging and surface scanning using metamaterial based near field sensor array. Multiple split ring resonator structures (SRRs), having different band stop frequencies, are implemented in a microstrip transmission line configuration. A mirror image copy of these resonators is also incorporated on the transmission line to achieve built in frequency references. Analysis of electroencephalographic (EEG) signals usually includes visual inspection of the signal, feature extraction, and model generation. computer-aided nonlinear feature extraction from EEG in particular has already led to improved descriptive and prognostic models of brain states and disorders. However, in this field, there is a lack of freely available powerful tools for scientific exploration of EEG that would help researchers to compare the results of their work with others. Especially, because of the great diversity of the proposed methods for EEG analysis, there exists a need for a joint framework for inspection, extraction and visualization performed on the EEG records. The aim of this paper is to introduce such a framework, called EEGFrame, with its implementation in Java. The framework currently supports the analysis of standard EDF records via signal inspection, feature extraction, and feature vectors storage for knowledge discovery. EEGFrame is the result of refactoring and extension of the HRVFrame framework for heart rate variability analysis, with added methods for EEG analysis. This paper describes the properties and capabilities of the framework and discusses its relevance with respect to similar work. The main advantage of EEGFrame is its support for numerous linear and nonlinear methods described in literature.

In this work, the planar HKMG MOS devices are fabricated on (100) wafer with p-substrate. To improve the samples' interface roughness between the Si/Ge film and the interface layer, three different clean treatments are considered to fabricate the MOS devices. Among processes, the experiment indicates that HF and water rinse can present hydrogen termination to bond silicon as a good passivation. The measured C-V curves and HRTEM of the fabricated samples show the interface roughness is improved significantly. The extracted shift of flat band voltage (ΔV fb ) and density of interface traps (D it ) have around 50% improvement.

The use of photovoltaic systems for DC power generation and the delivery and the utilization of DC power will bring revolution in energy field by providing ultra-low-cost clean energy to rich and poor all over the world. Ultra large scale manufacturing of PV modules coupled with wide band gap (notably SiC and GaN) based semiconductor manufacturing will enable the DC power production, delivery and utilization in a manner similar to what silicon semiconductor manufacturing has done in enabling the information revolution. Traffic analysis often requires direct observations of network connections at local vantage points. In this work, we show that traffic analysis can be performed remotely by taking advantage of a timing side channel. The timing side channel results from a shared resource, namely, the scheduler between two users. Utilizing Shannon equivocation as a privacy metric, we prove that one user can learn the complete traffic pattern of the other user if the scheduler employs a first come first serve (FCFS) policy. Moreover, we show the feasibility of a real system attack exploiting the timing side channel inside a home digital subscriber line (DSL) router. This demonstrates the magnitude of the threat timing side channels pose for traffic analysis.

The extended Kalman filter (EKF) algorithm has been applied widely in orbital guidance and navigations problems for mini- and micro-satellites. This paper evaluates the performance and computational complexity of EKF for smaller satellites. The impact of some limitations, including low power and computing capabilities on the implementation of EKF in smaller satellites is also addressed. The filter formulation is based on a kinematics model propagated with three-axis rate integrating gyros, where the attitude is parameterized using quaternions. A multiplicative quaternion-error approach is used to define the attitude error, which ensures that quaternion normalization is maintained. The results indicate that the EKF is sensitive to initial conditions. Using TRIAD algorithm to determine initial conditions, the filter converges after 50 minutes with an average error of 1.5°, but may diverge for extreme cases. The time and space complexities of EKF have also been estimated to be O(n~3) and O(n~2), respectively.
