Outlier detection refers to the identification of anomalous samples that deviate significantly from the distribution of normal data and has been extensively studied and used in a variety of practical tasks. However, most unsupervised outlier detection methods are carefully designed to detect specified outliers, while real-world data may be entangled with different types of outliers. In this study, we propose a fuzzy rough sets-based multi-scale outlier detection method to identify various types of outliers. Specifically, a novel fuzzy rough sets-based method that integrates relative fuzzy granule density is first introduced to improve the capability of detecting local outliers. Then, a multi-scale view generation method based on granular-ball computing is proposed to collaboratively identify group outliers at different levels of granularity. Moreover, reliable outliers and inliers determined by the three-way decision are used to train a weighted support vector machine to further improve the performance of outlier detection. The proposed method innovatively transforms unsupervised outlier detection into a semi-supervised classification problem and for the first time explores the fuzzy rough sets-based outlier detection from the perspective of multi-scale granular balls, allowing for high adaptability to different types of outliers. Extensive experiments carried out on both artificial and UCI datasets demonstrate that the proposed outlier detection method significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art methods, improving the results by at least 8.48% in terms of the Area Under the ROC Curve (AUROC) index. Coordination of day-ahead and real-time electricity markets is imperative for cost-effective electricity supply and also to provide efficient incentives for the energy transition. Although stochastic market designs feature the least-cost coordination, they are incompatible with current deterministic markets. This paper proposes a new approach for compatible coordination in two-settlement markets based on benchmark bidding curves for variable renewable energy. These curves are optimized based on a bilevel optimization problem, anticipating per-scenario responses of deterministic market-clearing problems and ultimately minimizing the expected cost across day-ahead and real-time markets. Although the general bilevel model is challenging to solve, we theoretically prove that a single-segment bidding curve with a zero bidding price is sufficient to achieve system optimality if the marginal cost of variable renewable energy is zero, thus addressing the computational challenge. In practice, variable renewable energy producers can be allowed to bid multi-segment curves with non-zero prices. We test the bilevel framework for both single- and multiple-segment bidding curves under the assumption of fixed bidding prices. We leverage duality theory and McCormick envelopes to derive the linear programming approximation of the bilevel problem, which scales to practical systems such as a 1576-bus NYISO system. We benchmark the proposed coordination and find absolute dominance over the baseline solution, which assumes that renewables agnostically bid their expected forecasts. We also demonstrate that our proposed scheme provides a good approximation of the least-cost, yet unattainable in practice, stochastic market outcome. © 2025, CC BY.

Audio guides are commonly utilized to enrich the experience of art gallery visitors and to fully engage them with the artwork by providing background, contexts, and other information related to the corresponding artists. However, this method may be monotonous to the public and cannot automatically change to the appropriate recording when users move to the next artwork. The traditional operation of audio guides is only enabled by the user's visual recognition of the artwork to activate appropriate commentaries manually. In this paper, we explore the potential enhancement of the art gallery visitors' experience by applying Artificial Intelligence (AI), machine learning, and computer vision techniques to recognize the artwork's main features automatically and provide the corresponding artist and other information to the visitors. We train a model using a Deep Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Kaggle's Painter by Numbers dataset, and host the trained model on a low-power AI accelerator equipped with a camera to recognize the artwork in real-time. The results are then transmitted to a database, which is utilized by a custom Android application on the smartphone to provide updated artworkrelated information on the display or by audio. Our system targets not only the general public for an interactive experience in the art gallery but also visually impaired people for proper guidance with the smartphone's camera and its voice feedback capabilities. © 2022 IEEE.

In this paper, a semantic communication framework for a scenario where the transmitter and the receiver have different knowledge is proposed. In the proposed framework, the transmitter extracts semantic information from the data according to its knowledge and sends it to the receiver. The receiver requires to process the received semantic information based on its knowledge. Here, the knowledge implies a method which the transmitter or the receiver can use to process the semantic information. Since the transmitter or the receiver have different knowledge, they may have different understandings for the same information. To ensure the receiver can understand the semantic information, the transmitter requires to estimate the receiver's knowledge by asking a series of questions about the transmitted data. By evaluating the difference between the answers of the receiver and the answers of the transmitter, the transmitter can adjust the method of semantic information extraction. Since the size of the extracted semantic information and the number of the questions that the transmitter can ask are limited, the transmitter must adjust the method of semantic information extraction and select appropriate questions to transmit. This problem is formulated as an optimization problem whose goal is to maximize the similarity of answers of the transmitter and the receiver by determining semantic information while minimizing the semantic similarity of answers by determining the questions to be transmitted. To solve this problem, an adversarial reinforcement learning (ARL) algorithm is proposed. The proposed algorithm, which consists of a semantic information RL and a question RL, can find the optimal semantic information generation scheme and question selection scheme by a competitive game between two agents. Most microphones operate by detecting the sound-pressure induced motion of a membrane. In contrast, here we introduce a microphone that operates by monitoring the sound-pressure-induced modulation of the compressibility of air. By driving a graphene membrane at its resonance frequency, the gas, that is trapped in a squeeze-film beneath it, is compressed at high frequency. Since the stiffness of the gas film depend on the air pressure, the resonance frequency of the graphene is modulated by variations in sound pressure. We demonstrate that this squeeze-film microphone principle can be used to detect sound and music by tracking the membrane's resonance frequency using a phase-locked loop (PLL). Since the sound detection principle is different from conventional devices, the squeeze-film microphone potentially offers advantages like increased dynamic range, and a lower susceptibility to pressure-induced failure and vibration-induced noise. Moreover, it might be made much smaller, as demonstrated by the microphone in this work that operates using a circular graphene membrane with an area that is more than a factor 1000 smaller than that of MEMS microphones. Urban vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) link scheduling with shared spectrum is a challenging problem. Its main goal is to find the scheduling policy that can maximize system performance (usually the sum capacity of each link or their energy efficiency). Given that each link can experience interference from all other active links, the scheduling becomes a combinatorial integer programming problem and generally does not scale well with the number of V2V pairs. Moreover, link scheduling requires accurate channel state information (CSI), which is very difficult to estimate with good accuracy under high vehicle mobility. In this paper, we propose an end-to-end urban V2V link scheduling method called Map2Schedule, which can directly generate V2V scheduling policy from the city map and vehicle locations. Map2Schedule delivers comparable performance to the physical-model-based methods in urban settings while maintaining low computation complexity. This enhanced performance is achieved by machine learning (ML) technologies. Specifically, we first deploy the convolutional neural network (CNN) model to estimate the CSI from street layout and vehicle locations and then apply the graph embedding model for optimal scheduling policy. The results show that the proposed method can achieve high accuracy with much lower overhead and latency.

Machine learning, a vital part of artificial intelli-gence, improves our ability to make predictions from complex data. The success of these predictions relies heavily on the model's fit with its data and the data's consistency. Accurate predictions depend on closely matching the model to the data patterns. However, missing data can seriously disrupt the accuracy of predictions, causing errors. To address this, we recommend adopting a proposed framework that enhances predictions by effectively filling in missing data. Our objective is to refine the accuracy of our predictions, especially in scenarios where the data might be incomplete and features exhibit patterns of dependency. In the context of missing data, our approach concentrates on enhancing regression performance to minimize the effects of missing data as effectively as possible.

The sequential fusion estimation for multisensor systems disturbed by non-Gaussian but heavytailed noises is studied in this paper. Based on multivariate t-distribution and the approximate t-filter,the sequential fusion algorithm is presented. The performance of the proposed algorithm is analyzed and compared with the t-filter-based centralized batch fusion and the Gaussian Kalman filter-based optimal centralized fusion. Theoretical analysis and exhaustive experimental analysis show that the proposed algorithm is effective. As the generalization of the classical Gaussian Kalman filter-based optimal sequential fusion algorithm, the presented algorithm is shown to be superior to the Gaussian Kalman filter-based optimal centralized batch fusion and the optimal sequential fusion in estimation of dynamic systems with non-Gaussian noises.

This paper systematically investigates the performance of consensus-based distributed filtering under mismatched noise covariances. First, we introduce three performance evaluation indices for such filtering problems, namely the standard performance evaluation index, the nominal performance evaluation index, and the estimation error covariance. We derive difference expressions among these indices and establish one-step relations among them under various mismatched noise covariance scenarios. We particularly reveal the effect of the consensus fusion on these relations. Furthermore, the recursive relations are introduced by extending the results of the one-step relations. Subsequently, we demonstrate the convergence of these indices under the collective observability condition, and show this convergence condition of the nominal performance evaluation index can guarantee the convergence of the estimation error covariance. Additionally, we prove that the estimation error covariance of the consensus-based distributed filter under mismatched noise covariances can be bounded by the Frobenius norms of the noise covariance deviations and the trace of the nominal performance evaluation index.
