Fast Heterogeneous Multi-Problem Surrogates for Transfer Evolutionary Multiobjective Optimization

Transfer evolutionary multiobjective optimization leverages the relevant knowledge from other source problems (distinct but possibly related) to assist the optimization of the target problem of interest. Multi-problem surrogates stack multiple source surrogates to reduce the number of function evaluations of the target expensive problem. The current multi-problem surrogates only considers several source problems and the source and target problems are assumed to be homogeneous. In order to address the above issues, this paper proposes fast heterogeneous multi-problem surrogates for transfer evolutionary multiobjective optimization with a large number of surrogates. First, an iterative surrogate selection strategy is designed to select the highly relevant surrogates from the large-scale surrogate pool to avoid negative transfer. Second, heterogeneous multi-problem surrogates are established to align the features of the source and target models. Finally, an adaptive k-fold cross-validation method is proposed to obtain the predicted values of the target model with low computational costs. Experiments on the multiobjective optimization benchmark problems and multiobjective neural architecture search problems have demonstrated that the proposed method is able to avoid negative transfer in the large-scale scenarios and reduce the computational costs. In real-world datasets, leveraging the low-rank and sparsity properties enables developing efficient algorithms across a diverse array of data-related tasks, including compression, compressed sensing, matrix completion, etc. Notably, these two properties often coexist in certain real-world datasets, especially in Boolean datasets and quantized real-valued datasets. To harness the advantages of low-rank and sparsity simultaneously, we adopt a technique inspired by compressed sensing and Boolean matrix completion. Our approach entails compressing a low-rank sparse Boolean matrix by performing inner product operations with a randomly generated Boolean matrix. We then propose a decoding algorithms based on message-passing techniques to recover the original matrix. Our experiments demonstrate superior recovery performance of our proposed algorithms compared to Boolean matrix completion, with equal measurement requirements. © 2025 IEEE.

Autonomous navigation of a tracked unmanned ground vehicle*

This work proposes a complete autonomous navigation system for a tracked vehicle. The system enables a complete autonomous execution of waypoint and patrolling tasks selected by the user. It also enables user-vehicle shared autonomy, switching between the user teleoperation and the vehicle autonomous operation. Our navigation system uses the model predictive control scheme based on a navigation function. We propose the navigation function which takes into account changing environments, any-shape footprint, and non-holonomic motion of the tracked vehicle. Besides the waypoint and patrolling tasks, we implemented a fail-safe scenario in case of the user-vehicle communication loss, in which the vehicle returns autonomously to the previously visited goal where the communication was stable. The efficiency of the proposed system is validated by experimental results on the Komodo tracked vehicle.

Ensemble systems, pervasive in diverse scientific and engineering domains, pose challenges to existing control methods due to their massive scale and underactuated nature. This paper presents a dynamic moment approach to addressing theoretical and computational challenges in systems-theoretic analysis and control design for linear ensemble systems. We introduce the Legendre-moments and Legendre-moment transform, which maps an ensemble system defined on the L2-space to a Legendre-moment system defined on the 2-space. We show that this pair of systems is of one-to-one correspondence and shares the same controllability property. This equivalence admits the control of an ensemble system through the control of the corresponding Legendre-moment system and inspires a unified control design scheme for linear ensemble systems using structured truncated moment systems. Changes in coal seam hardness cause fluctuations in the feed resistance at the drill bit during the drilling process, leading to unstable feeding speed. This paper proposes a robust dynamic output feedback controller to suppress disturbances caused by the variations in coal seam hardness in the feed system. Firstly, an unknown parameter measuring coal seam hardness is introduced, and an uncertain model of the feeding system is established based on the finite element model of the drill string. By designing weighted functions based on industrial field requirements and constructing a generalized plant, the controller achieves loop shaping, reducing the low-frequency impact of coal seam hardness variations on the feed system and suppressing the systems resonance peak. Simulation results demonstrate that the controller effectively suppresses parameter variations and external disturbances caused by changes in coal seam hardness, achieving stable control of the drilling speed.

BihoT: A Large-Scale Dataset and Benchmark for Hyperspectral Camouflaged Object Tracking

Hyperspectral object tracking (HOT) has exhibited potential in various applications, particularly in scenes where objects are camouflaged. Existing trackers can effectively retrieve objects via band regrouping because of the bias in existing HOT datasets, where most objects tend to have distinguishing visual appearances rather than spectral characteristics. This bias allows the tracker to directly use the visual features obtained from the false-color images generated by hyperspectral images without the need to extract spectral features. To tackle this bias, we find that the tracker should focus on the spectral information when object appearance is unreliable. Thus, we provide a new task called hyperspectral camouflaged object tracking (HCOT) and meticulously construct a large-scale HCOT dataset, termed BihoT, which consists of 41,912 hyperspectral images covering 49 video sequences. The dataset covers various artificial camouflage scenes where objects have similar appearances, diverse spectrums, and frequent occlusion, making it a very challenging dataset for HCOT. Besides, a simple but effective baseline model, named spectral prompt-based distractor-aware network (SPDAN), is proposed, comprising a spectral embedding network (SEN), a spectral prompt-based backbone network (SPBN), and a distractor-aware module (DAM). Specifically, the SEN extracts spectral-spatial features via 3-D and 2-D convolutions to form a refined prompt representation. Then, the SPBN fine-tunes powerful RGB trackers with spectral prompts and alleviates the insufficiency of training samples. Moreover, the DAM utilizes a novel statistic to capture the distractor caused by occlusion from objects and background and corrects the deterioration of the tracking performance via a novel motion predictor. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our proposed SPDAN achieves state-of-the-art performance on the proposed BihoT and other HOT datasets. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In this paper, the problem of collaborative vehicle sensing is investigated. In the considered model, a set of cooperative vehicles provide sensing information to sensing request vehicles with limited sensing and communication resources. A base station (BS) determines the subset of sensing request vehicles that each cooperative vehicle will serve and the sub-regions that each cooperative vehicle will detect. We formulate an optimization problem aiming to maximize the number of successfully detected sub-regions of sensing request vehicles while satisfying the cooperative sensing energy requirement by jointly determining the cooperative vehicle association and the sensing sub-region selection. To solve this problem, we propose a graph attention based reinforcement learning (RL) algorithm that can generate the graph information vectors based on the correlation between each cooperative vehicle and each sensing request vehicle. Using the learned graph information, the joint cooperative vehicle association and sensing sub-region selection strategy will be determined. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can improve the number of successfully detected sub-regions of sensing request vehicles by up to 12.5% compared to the conventional RL algorithm without using graph attention networks (GANs).

This study addresses linear attacks on remote state estimation within the context of a constrained alarm rate. Smart sensors, which are equipped with local Kalman filters, transmit innovations instead of raw measurements through a wireless communication network. This transmission is vulnerable to malicious data interception and manipulation by attackers. The aim of this research is to identify the optimal attack strategy that degrades the system performance while adhering to stealthiness constraints. A notable innovation of this paper is the direct association of the attack’s stealthiness with the alarm rate, diverging from traditional approaches that rely on the covariance of the innovation or the Kullback–Leibler divergence, which are conventional metrics that have been extensively explored in previous studies. Our findings reveal that the optimal attack strategy exhibits some structural characteristics in systems of low dimensions. The performance of the proposed attack strategy is demonstrated through numerical examples.

SSF-Net: Spatial-Spectral Fusion Network with Spectral Angle Awareness for Hyperspectral Object Tracking

Hyperspectral video (HSV) offers valuable spatial, spectral, and temporal information simultaneously, making it highly suitable for handling challenges such as background clutter and visual similarity in object tracking. However, existing methods primarily focus on band regrouping and rely on RGB trackers for feature extraction, resulting in limited exploration of spectral information and difficulties in achieving complementary representations of object features. In this paper, a spatialspectral fusion network with spectral angle awareness (SST-Net) is proposed for hyperspectral (HS) object tracking. Firstly, to address the issue of insufficient spectral feature extraction in existing networks, a spatial-spectral feature backbone (S2FB) is designed. With the spatial and spectral extraction branch, a joint representation of texture and spectrum is obtained. Secondly, a spectral attention fusion module (SAFM) is presented to capture the intra- and inter-modality correlation to obtain the fused features from the HS and RGB modalities. It can incorporate the visual information into the HS spectral context to form a robust representation. Thirdly, to ensure a more accurate response of the tracker to the object position, a spectral angle awareness module (SAAM) investigates the region-level spectral similarity between the template and search images during the prediction stage. Furthermore, we develop a novel spectral angle awareness loss (SAAL) to offer guidance for the SAAM based on similar regions. Finally, to obtain the robust tracking results, a weighted prediction method is considered to combine the HS and RGB predicted motions of objects to leverage the strengths of each modality. Extensive experiments on the HOTC dataset demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed SSF-Net, compared with state-of-the-art trackers. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.
