In this article the legend of Fig. 6 was presented without a reference. The legend of Fig. 6 has been changed from "The general framework for knowledge distillation involving a teacher-student relationship" to "The generic teacher-student framework for knowledge distillation [33]." In Sharma et al.’s research, two results obtained from the "KNN with ten-fold cross-validation" and "KNN with leave-one-subject-out cross-validation (LOSOCV)" methods are reported as the final results. Unfortunately, we mistakenly attributed the accuracy of one method. While we correctly listed the name of the method used, which is KNN with ten-fold cross-validation, we inadvertently entered the precision of the KNN with leave-one-subject-out cross-validation (LOSOCV) method. Therefore, we updated our results table (Table 7). The correct Table 7 is shown below. (Table presented.) COVID-19 pandemic restrictions limited all social activities to curtail the spread of the *** foremost and most prime sector among those affected were schools,colleges,and *** education system of entire nations had shifted to online education during this *** shortcomings of Learning Management Systems(LMSs)were detected to support education in an online mode that spawned the research in Artificial Intelligence(AI)based tools that are being developed by the research community to improve the effectiveness of *** paper presents a detailed survey of the different enhancements to LMSs,which are led by key advances in the area of AI to enhance the real-time and non-real-time user *** AI-based enhancements proposed to the LMSs start from the Application layer and Presentation layer in the form of flipped classroom models for the efficient learning environment and appropriately designed UI/UX for efficient utilization of LMS utilities and resources,including AI-based *** layer enhancements are also required,such as AI-based online proctoring and user authentication using *** extend to the Transport layer to support real-time and rate adaptive encrypted video transmission for user security/privacy and satisfactory working of *** also needs the support of the Networking layer for IP-based geolocation features,the Virtual Private Network(VPN)feature,and the support of Software-Defined Networks(SDN)for optimum Quality of Service(QoS).Finally,in addition to these,non-real-time user experience is enhanced by other AI-based enhancements such as Plagiarism detection algorithms and Data Analytics.

log-Sigmoid Activation-Based Long Short-Term Memory for Time-Series Data Classification

With the enhanced usage of artificial-intelligence-driven applications, the researchers often face challenges in improving the accuracy of data classification models, while trading off the complexity. In this article, we address the classification of time-series data using the long short-term memory (LSTM) network while focusing on the activation functions. While the existing activation functions, such as sigmoid and tanh, are used as LSTM internal activations, the customizability of these activations stays limited. This motivates us to propose a new family of activation functions, called log-sigmoid, inside the LSTM cell for time-series data classification and analyze its properties. We also present the use of a linear transformation (e.g., log tanh) of the proposed log-sigmoid activation as a replacement of the traditional tanh function in the LSTM cell. Both the cell activation and recurrent activation functions inside the LSTM cell are modified with log-sigmoid activation family while tuning the log bases. Furthermore, we report a comparative performance analysis of the LSTM model using the proposed and the state-of-the-art activation functions on multiple public time-series databases. © 2023 IEEE.

Artificial intelligence-inspired comprehensive framework for desertification prediction

Desertification greatly affects land deterioration, farming efficiency, economic growth, and health, especially in Gulf nations. Climate change has worsened desertification, making developmental issues in the area even more difficult. This research presents an enhanced framework utilizing the Internet of Things (IoT) for ongoing monitoring, data gathering, and analysis to evaluate desertification patterns. The framework utilizes Bayesian Belief Networks (BBN) to categorize IoT data, while a low-latency processing method on edge computing platforms enables effective detection of desertification trends. The classified data is subsequently analyzed using an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) optimized with a Genetic Algorithm (GA) for forecasting decisions. Using cloud computing infrastructure, the ANN-GA model examines intricate data connections to forecast desertification risk elements. Moreover, the Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) model is employed to predict desertification over varied time intervals. Experimental simulations illustrate the effectiveness of the suggested framework, attaining enhanced performance in essential metrics: Temporal Delay (103.68 s), Classification Efficacy—Sensitivity (96.44 %), Precision (95.56 %), Specificity (96.97 %), and F-Measure (96.69 %)—Predictive Efficiency—Accuracy (97.76 %) and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) (1.95 %)—along with Reliability (93.73 %) and Stability (75 %). The results of classification effectiveness and prediction performance emphasize the framework's ability to detect high-risk zones and predict the severity of desertification. This innovative method improves the comprehension of desertification processes and encourages sustainable land management practices, reducing the socio-economic impacts of desertification and bolstering at-risk ecosystems. A Systematic Literature Review on the Security Attacks and Countermeasures Used in Graphical Passwords

This systematic literature review delves into the dynamic realm of graphical passwords, focusing on the myriad security attacks they face and the diverse countermeasures devised to mitigate these threats. The core objective of this paper is to identify existing security threats to graphical password schemes and the corresponding countermeasures developed to mitigate these attacks. The study process begins by identifying the usable databases and search engines to identify all the relevant resources. The inclusion and exclusion criteria were carefully selected to prioritize the study, focusing mostly on attacks and countermeasures related to graphical password schemes between 2009 and 2023. After thorough identification and selection progress, 59 studies met all the criteria. Among these studies, 47 mentioned shoulder surfing as a threat to graphical password schemes, while 20 discussed brute force attacks. Additionally, there were 21 papers on dictionary attacks, 13 on smudge attacks, spyware attacks, and social engineering, and 19 that discussed guessing attacks as threats to graphical password schemes. Furthermore, the papers identified several other attacks, including frequency of occurrence analysis attacks, video recording, eavesdropping, computer vision, sonar, and image gallery attacks, with the corresponding numbers of papers being 9, 17, 5, 2, 2, and 1, respectively. The results also highlight the countermeasures proposed in the study papers to mitigate the aforementioned attacks. Among the various countermeasures identified, most revolve around randomization, obfuscation, and password space complexity as the most commonly used techniques for enhancing the security of graphical password schemes. © 2013 IEEE.

Advancing Bankruptcy Forecasting With Hybrid Machine Learning Techniques: Insights From an Unbalanced Polish Dataset

The challenge of bankruptcy prediction, critical for averting financial sector losses, is amplified by the prevalence of imbalanced datasets, which often skew prediction models. Addressing this, our study introduces the innovative hybrid model XGBoost+ANN, designed to leverage the strengths of both ensemble learning and artificial neural networks. This model integrates a comprehensive set of features with parameters optimized through genetic algorithms, eschewing traditional feature selection approaches. Our research focuses on an unbalanced dataset of Polish companies and reveals that the XGBoost+ANN model, in particular, exhibits outstanding performance. Optimized using genetic algorithms and without feature selection, this model achieved the highest AUC (0.958), sensitivity (0.752), and accuracy (0.983) scores, surpassing other models in our study. This remarkable outperformance, along with the robust results, marks a substantial advancement in the field of bankruptcy prediction. It underscores the efficacy of our approach in addressing the persistent challenge of data imbalance, offering a more reliable and accurate solution for financial risk assessment. © 2013 IEEE.

Shadow extraction and elimination is essential for intelligent transportation systems(ITS)in vehicle tracking *** shadow is the source of error for vehicle detection,which causes misclassification of vehicles and a high false alarm rate in the research of vehicle counting,vehicle detection,vehicle tracking,and *** of the existing research is on shadow extraction of moving vehicles in high intensity and on standard datasets,but the process of extracting shadows from moving vehicles in low light of real scenes is *** real scenes of vehicles dataset are generated by self on the Vadodara–Mumbai highway during periods of poor illumination for shadow extraction of moving vehicles to address the above *** paper offers a robust shadow extraction of moving vehicles and its elimination for vehicle *** method is distributed into two phases:In the first phase,we extract foreground regions using a mixture of Gaussian model,and then in the second phase,with the help of the Gamma correction,intensity ratio,negative transformation,and a combination of Gaussian filters,we locate and remove the shadow region from the foreground *** to the outcomes proposed method with outcomes of an existing method,the suggested method achieves an average true negative rate of above 90%,a shadow detection rate SDR(η%),and a shadow discrimination rate SDR(ξ%)of 80%.Hence,the suggested method is more appropriate for moving shadow detection in real scenes.

Machine Learning-Based Chronic Kidney Cancer Prediction Application: A Predictive Analytics Approach

Chronic Kidney Cancer (CKC) is a disease that hindrances the blood-filtering mechanism of the kidney and is increasing at an alarming rate in the recent few years. As CKC does not show any earlier symptoms, the earlier prediction will be very effective to elevate its effect. In this paper, a machine learning-based method for diagnosing CKC at an early stage is proposed. SVM, Decision Tree, Random Forest, KNN, Native Bayes, Logistic Regression, LGBM, CatBoost, and AdaBoost are employed for classification purposes, and among these algorithms, Random Forest, AdaBoost, and LGBM give 99% accuracy. Data pre-processing and feature selection help improve the accuracy of the proposed model. The outcome of the comparative analysis of our proposed work with eight existing approaches proves the robustness and supremacy of the work. Furthermore, the best model is also used to develop a user-friendly web application. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC 2023.
