An Electromagnetically Consistent and Mutual Coupling-Aware Near-Field Communication Model for Holographic MIMO

As a potential technology to support the extreme requirements of next-generation communications, holographic multiple-input multiple-output (H-MIMO) refers to arrays with a large number of individually controlled and densely deployed antennas. An important challenge to realize this innovative concept is the need to integrate information theory, electromagnetic theory and circuit theory in modeling, which is also required for electromagnetic information theory (EIT). This paper aims to connect information theory and electromagnetic theory using circuit theory to provide electromagnetically consistent and mutual coupling-aware near-field communication models for H-MIMO systems. Specifically, first, the considered H-MIMO system model is given and represented as a linear multiport network in circuit theory. Unlike the mainstream models that only consider the wireless propagation environment, the circuit-based model is physically consistent and considers the radio frequency components, mutual coupling between different antenna elements, noise, etc. Second, the mutual coupling and propagation effects are represented in the circuit model by the impedance, which requires relating the quantities of the circuit to the fields generated by the antenna. The relationship between the quantities of the circuit and the fields generated by the antenna is given according to the reciprocity and reaction theorems. Furthermore, the method of moments (a computational electromagnetic method) is introduced to calculate the impedance in the line-of-sight case. Finally, the integration of the physical model with the digital model provides a framework for the design of H-MIMO. In the numerical simulations, the H-MIMO performance is provided using the proposed model. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

'Enhancing Patient Privacy and Data Security in Remote Healthcare Monitoring Using IoT and Wearable Technologies' is a new approach to healthcare IT's major privacy and data security issues. Security must be updated as wearable gadgets and the Internet of Things (IoT) becomes increasingly widespread in remote healthcare tracking. Many people worry about online patient data security;thus, this study develops a thorough security solution that fits with current healthcare IT systems. A full security architecture with cutting-edge encryption techniques, real-time data transmission protocols, and flexible privacy safeguards is used. The recommended solution outperforms current security methods. A stronger 256-bit key protects patient data at a higher security level. Getting connection latency down to 20 ms speeds up remote healthcare systems. The proposed technique is resilient enough to withstand hostile attacks while maintaining healthcare services. The approach also allows real-world data analysis while preserving patients' identities 92% of the time. The strategy may be employed in complex healthcare IT since it balances data security and research. Overall, this study's findings are promising for safe medical technologies. The recommended method's superior encryption, quicker transmission, and reliable system have raised telehealth tracking privacy requirements. In healthcare IT, wearable technology and the Internet of Things are connecting swiftly. Better security procedures that prioritize patient privacy and data protection are outlined in this study. © 2025 IEEE.

Coverage analysis in heterogeneous networks (HetNets) remains insufficient, especially under user mobility and diverse association strategies. To address this, this paper proposes a contact probability and coverage approximation based on association strategy (CPCA-AS) to analyze the coverage probability (CPr) in visible light communication (VLC) and radio frequency (RF) HetNets. Based on the proposed stochastic geometry framework, CPCA-AS evaluates coverage performance under various configurations, including RF-only, VLC-only, and hybrid RF/VLC scenarios. The model incorporates a contact probability mechanism and considers two strategies: opportunistic VLC and maximum received signal power (MRSP). For VLC networks, CPCA-AS utilizes the Gil-Pelaez inversion theorem, and Laplace transforms to efficiently approximate CPr. For RF networks, Markov and Gamma inequalities form conservative accurate approximations and lower bounds. CPCA-AS effectively captures the influence of the photodetector’s field-of-view (FoV) on interference and association behavior. Monte Carlo simulations validate the accuracy of the CPCA-AS. Results demonstrate that CPCA-AS improves CPr. The opportunistic VLC strategy performs better in high-interference and large FoV scenarios. In contrast, the MRSP strategy is more effective in low-interference and low-rate environments. © 2025 Optica Publishing Group. It remains to be extremely difficult to capture high quality photographs of low-light scenes. Low light causes the low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) problem which makes the image noisy. Such scenes almost always have the high dynamic range (HDR) problem caused by uneven lighting where a small area surrounding the light source is very bright while the rest of the scene is very dark, making it very difficult to simultaneously obtain high quality signals in both the dark and bright areas. This paper presents a new image restoration method for tackling the problems in low-light scenes. Fundamentally differing from existing approaches, the new method borrows ideas from inverse graphics rendering and re-renders the image with a canonical light source thus correcting the image from first principle. A deep learning based simplified inverse rendering model (SIRM) featuring implicit regularization is first developed for correcting uneven lighting and then an end-to-end convolutional neural network is constructed for reducing noise. Extensive experimental results are presented to demonstrate that the new method outperforms state-of-the-art methods, and is capable of effectively brightening up dark image regions while at the same time preserving details and color consistency. A Novel Circularly Polarized Filtering Reflectarray by Manipulating the Multimode Reflective Phase of Orthogonal Polarizations

This paper presents a novel design methodology for circularly polarized (CP) filtering reflectarray (RA). Unlike conventional filtering techniques based on magnitude response, the proposed filtering RA solely manipulates the phase responses of the reflected wave under the total reflection condition. An isosceles triangle patch radiator loaded with slots is employed as the unit cell. Two sets of orthogonal resonant modes of the triangular patch are exploited to produce a phase difference between the u- and v-polarized components. By adopting slot loading, first- and third-order resonant states are induced in the two orthogonal directions. Next, the phase difference is fully controlled by adjusting the slope of the reflection phase. In the passband, the phase difference is maintained at 180°, while outside the band, it rapidly rolls down (up) to 0° (360°), enabling steep band edges. Finally, a CP filtering RA using the optimized element is constructed for the first time, which verifies the validity of the proposed method. The fabricated RA exhibits satisfactory performance, including a 3-dB gain bandwidth of 25.7%, 3-dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth of 29.8%, and the out-of-band suppression levels of 33.5 dB (22.8 dB) in the low (high) frequency band. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Geomagnetic disturbances are a threat to the reliability and security of our national critical energy infrastructures. These events specifically result in geomagnetically induced currents, which can cause damage to transformers due to magnetic saturation. In order to mitigate these effects, blocker devices must be placed in optimal locations. Finding this placement requires a dc representation of the ac transmission lines, which this paper discusses. Different decisions in this process, including the method of representing the blocking devices, result in significant variations to the power loss calculations. To analyze these effects, we conclude the paper by comparing the losses on a sample network with different modeling implementations.

In high-power inductive power transfer (IPT) systems, multiple coils are used to enhance efficiency, but interactions between coils on the same side can reduce overall performance. Traditionally, decoupling coils are added to minimize these interactions, however they don’t contribute to power transfer and may even hinder system efficiency. This article introduces a new IPT system and coil structure that integrates decoupling coils, which not only improve mutual interaction between same-side coils but also actively contribute to power transfer. The coils are optimized for high mutual inductance, strong coupling coefficient, reduced self-inductance, and minimized side-by-side mutual inductance, performing well even with X-axis, Y-axis, and angular misalignments. Using 3-D Finite Element Analysis (ANSYS-Maxwell), the magnetic coupler’s performance is thoroughly evaluated, and a downsized experimental setup demonstrates the system’s feasibility. The proposed system achieves a maximum dc-dc efficiency of 94.27%, successfully delivering 1 kW across a 120-mm air gap with zero-voltage switching, presenting a significant advancement for multi-transmitter and multi-receiver systems.

This letter proposes a wideband two-dimensional (2-D) switched beam antenna array with single/dual/quad-lobed switched beams for direction of arrival (DOA) estimation. A planar and compact 4-order Hadamard matrix (HM) without any intersection structure works as its feeding network. The HM provides four groups of output signals with equal amplitudes and coded 0° /180° phase differences between adjacent outputs. It adopts four universal building blocks arranged planarly, each of them is realized by a 3-dB wideband quadrature coupler cascading with a 90 8 phase shifter. For demonstration, a HM prototype operating at 2.4 GHz is designed, fabricated, and measured. Its overall circuit size is 0.67 × 1.34 λg 2 and bandwidth is larger than 47.6%. Finally, a wideband 2-D switched beam antenna array is constructed by the proposed HM and magnetoelectric dipole antenna array. The 2-D single/dual/quadlobed switched beams verify its effectiveness. © 2002-2011 IEEE.

Disturbance Rejection Control for PMSGs Based on Novel Sliding Mode Control Law and Unknown System Disturbance Estimator

This paper proposes a novel terminal sliding mode control strategy for the speed control of permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG)-based wind energy conversion systems (WECSs) to improve wind power generation efficiency. Firstly, a novel terminal sliding mode function based on exponential convergence is constructed, and a controller is designed accordingly, effectively addressing the system's nonlinear characteristics while achieving high precision tracking and chattering suppression with rapid convergence. Secondly, an unknown system dynamic estimator (USDE) is designed to estimate disturbances caused by external environments and inaccurate model parameters, further enhancing the system's disturbance rejection capability. Finally, the proposed USDE-based novel exponential sliding mode control is applied in a 1000 W PMSG-based WECS hardware simulator. Experimental results indicate that compared to the full-order sliding mode controller, the proposed control method exhibits stronger speed tracking, chattering suppression, and disturbance rejection capabilities. © 1986-2012 IEEE.
