The increasing demand for high-speed space communication networks enabled by dense constellations has placed CubeSats as a key enabling technology for future wireless communication networks. An origami antenna for CubeSats operating in the Terahertz Band (0.1-10THz) has been proposed to provide a compact, high-gain wideband solution to meet the demands of ultra-wideband space networks without occupying space within the CubeSat's internal components. The origami horn antenna's initial form is compactly placed on the sides of a 1U CubeSat before deployment in space. One proposed mechanical risk of such origami antenna is potential errors in deployment or degradation of flanges over time. In this paper, the potential errors and degradation are simulated, and the antenna beam pattern, gain, and surface current are shown using the multilevel fast multipole method (MLFMM) computational method in Altair FEKO electromagnetics software. © 2023 ACES.

The effects of electricity may be understood in a way that makes the idea of the world developing without it absurd. But even after more than 70 years since our independence, India still has a significant number of rural regions without electricity. Such rural locations are far apart from the development of the populace's fundamental needs. They required affordable and reliable electricity for development in their local areas. Demand-side development of renewable power plants is possible in these regions to meet both the needs of the populace for electricity and those of industry. The design of both a grid-connected and solar-powered stand-alone system is covered in this article. Such a proposed microgrid system can be used as a stand-alone system or a grid-connected system. This microgrid system is used for house and small industry electrification. For capturing the maximum sunlight radiation, we used maximum power point tracking technology in this article. To connect different types of loads, the suggested microgrid system is created using MATLAB and Simulink. The Simulink model demonstrates how well and efficiently the suggested microgrid system satisfies the locals' load requirements. The proposed microgrid system is environmentally friendly, has a very low operating and maintenance cost, and is a reliable system that can be used to fulfill on-load demand in rural areas. © 2023 IEEE.

Security of a computing system can be compromised by physical attacks against the hardware. Side-channel attacks involve the observation of integrated circuit (IC) or system behavior to extract assets such as cryptographic keys. Fault injection attacks involve the manipulation of underlying circuits to provoke erroneous operations that lead to the escalation of privilege or leakage of secret information. Some side-channel and fault injection attacks force circuits to work at temperatures out of operating range. Several countermeasures have been proposed to detect temperature change. However, they do not perform well in wide temperature fluctuations, have a large overhead area, or introduce other reliability concerns. This paper proposes a calibratable Null Convention Logic-based (NCL) polymorphic sensor that changes its functionality with temperature and can sense whether the temperature goes below or above a carefully designed application-specific threshold. It can be used with a wide range of process technologies without requiring significant modification. Low area overhead, low power consumption, configurable nature, and easy integration make it ideal for ICs. Our results show that this sensor can work at various temperature ranges with reliable operation with ± 1 0 C confidence, 8 μm 2 area and 19.2 μW power overhead, which is approximately 40 $x$ less overhead compared to alternative techniques.

With the development of the mobile communication and intelligent information technologies,the intelligent transportation systems driven by the sixth generation(6G) has many opportunities to achieve ultralow latency and higher data transmission rate. Nonetheless, it also faces the great challenges of spectral resource shortage and large-scale connection. To solve the above problems, non-orthogonal multiple access(NOMA) and cognitive radio(CR) technologies have been proposed. In this regard, we study the reliable and ergodic performance of CR-NOMA assisted intelligent transportation system networks in the presence of imperfect successive interference cancellation(SIC) and non-ideal channel state information. Specifically, the analytical expressions of the outage probability(OP) and ergodic sum rate(ESR) are derived through a string of calculations. In order to gain more insights, the asymptotic expressions for OP and ESR at high signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) regimes are discussed. We verify the accuracy of the analysis by Monte Carlo simulations, and the results show: i) Imperfect SIC and channel estimation errors(CEEs) have negative impacts on the OP and ESR; ii) The OP decreases with the SNR increasing until convergence to a fixed constant at high SNR regions; iii) The ESR increases with increasing SNR and there exists a ceiling in the high SNR region.

A conflict of interest exists between alerting the public over cellular communications and ensuring drivers operate vehicles hands-free. Active shooters, criminal pursuits, and kidnappings on our roadways can create dangerous conditions that may lead to fatalities and serious injuries. Thus, sharing suspected criminal images within future vehicular ad-hoc networks may improve transportation safety and help authorities crowdsource feedback for apprehending criminals. We present a novel system allowing broadcasting images of suspected criminals and related vehicle information into the vehicular ad-hoc network as a public emergency notification system for the population on the road. Image-based public safety messages broadcast from the infrastructure-to-vehicle (I2V) link into the vehicular ad-hoc network on the roadways. Similar studies show issues with bandwidth limitations of the I2V link and ensuring a high packet reception rate (PPR) for vehicle density in multimedia messages. In this work, we transmit images instead of video to mitigate network challenges and increase packet reception probability. We successfully transmit images within the Dedicated Short-Range Communication (DSRC) vehicular ad-hoc network. The results show that the vehicular ad-hoc network can receive traveler information messages with large image payloads even at high vehicle densities. In addition, the proposed system does not negatively affect the PPR of the existing vehicular ad-hoc network. © 2023 SPIE.

In this work, a deep reinforcement learning (DRL)-based controller is presented to improve the performance of an existing control process in inverter-based resources (IBR). A DRL algorithm is utilized to learn a model-free value function which further improves the transient response of an IBR over fast response time frames. In addition, the developed controller provides black-box control, that is, it performs the desired control action without accessing or modifying the internal parameters of the existing controller in an IBR. The developed controller is tested in case studies utilizing EMT simulations in PSCAD/EMTDC and its performance, resilience, and adaptiveness are verified. © 2023 IEEE.

Many applications such as datacenters and electric vehicles require well-regulated isolated DC-DC power converters. However, these often require high voltage gains for a wide input voltage range or when the input supply is lost. Although resonant converters, especially LLC converters, are great candidates for such dc-dc converters, their performance at the nominal operating conditions must be sacrificed to enable the converter to reach high gain levels with the conventional frequency modulation. Matrix transformers are commonly employed to distribute the high output currents evenly among the different elemental transformers. This paper proposes a control method to utilize matrix transformers to achieve high gains while operating at the resonant frequency. One or more secondary rectifiers (SRs) can be phase-shifted with respect to the other SRs to create periods where the transformer windings are partially shorted, resulting in a precise boost to the resonant tank energy, and hence, the resonant tank gain. This technique is implemented on a 400 V/12 V LLC converter for datacenters that requires high transformer gains during the hold-up period. © 2024 IEEE.

Corrosion is a prevalent issue in numerous industrial fields, causing expenses nearing 3 trillion or 4% of the GDP annually with safety threats and environmental pollution. To timely qualify and validate new corrosion-inhibiting materials on a large scale, accurate and efficient corrosion assessment is crucial. Yet it is hindered by a lack of automatic tools for expert-level corrosion segmentation of material science experimental images. Developing such tools is challenging due to limited domain-valid data, image artifacts visually similar to corrosion, various corrosion morphology, strong class imbalance, and millimeter-precision corrosion boundaries. To help the community address these challenges, we curate the first expert-level segmentation annotations for a real-world image dataset [1] for scientific corrosion segmentation. In addition, we design a deep learning based model, called DeepSC-Edge that achieves guidance of ground-truth edge learning by adopting a novel loss that avoids over-fitting to edges. It also is enriched by integrating a class-balanced loss that improves segmentation with small area but crucial edges of interest for scientific corrosion assessment. Our dataset and methods pave the way to advanced deep-learning models for corrosion assessment and generation - promoting new research to connect computer vision and material science discovery. Communication-based devices are extensively used in the power grid, and studying the power and communication systems as a cyber-physical system before their deployment is essential. Co-simulation can be used for studying power system stability, cyberattack detection and mitigation strategies, and controller performance. In co-simulation, both the power and communication layers are simulated simultaneously. Previous work has developed co-simulation platforms;however, it does not provide a comprehensive comparison of different co-simulation platforms. Furthermore, the slow simulation speed of co-simulation in some of the proposed platforms reduces the scalability capability dramatically. In this paper, five cyber-physical co-simulation platforms are implemented using PSCAD v5, and their merits and demerits are comprehensively evaluated. © 2023 IEEE.

Analytical modeling equations for characterizing the threshold voltage (Vth) of carbon nanotube field effect transistor CNTFETs are presented in this study with chirality. The equations have been derived based on the charge and potential distributions existing between the gate and substrate in a CNTFET. The research demonstrates a significant correlation between the chiral vectors of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and their threshold voltage (Vth)• The findings indicate a high level of coexistence between mathematical and visual simulation methodologies. The findings indicate that the determined threshold voltage (Vth) of a carbon nanotube field-effect transistor (CNTFET) possessing a chiral vector of (7, 2) exhibits a high degree of agreement with the relevant literature. © 2023 IEEE.
