In this paper, a high-precision three-dimensional (3-D) near-field (NF) localization method is proposed under an underdetermined case based on a symmetric enhanced nested array (SENA). Firstly, the symmetry of the array and the fourth-order cumulant (FOC) are utilized to construct the equivalent virtual far-field (FF) reception data. Then, a gridless sparse and parametric approach (SPA), combined with an l 1 -SVD based pairing procedure, is used to obtain estimates for two paired angles. Finally, a one-dimensional (1-D) spectral estimator is applied to obtain the estimate of range parameter. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Based on the exact spherical wavefront model, an under-determined estimation method for three-dimensional (3-D) parameters of near-field (NF) sources using L-shaped nested arrays is proposed, referred to as the cumulant algorithm. This algorithm leverages the temporal-spatial domain cumulants of NF sources by constructing virtual data through delayed fourth-order cumulant (FOC) calculations of the original received data. Subsequently, a spatial-spectrum-based subspace method is applied for 3-D NF localization, which involves a 3-D spectral search procedure. Additionally, the maximum number of identifiable NF sources of the proposed algorithm is analyzed. Simulation results demonstrate that, based on the exact spherical wavefront model, the proposed algorithm can achieve underdetermined 3-D parameter estimation of NF sources without any matching process, and it performs better in localization than existing methods.

The equivalent rectangular stress block is the basis for determining the flexural strength of reinforced concrete members. Instructors commonly present the concept in two dimensions, contrary to its three-dimensional nature. Unfortunately, this can be particularly difficult for students to understand and visualize, especially for students with visual learning style preferences. This paper presents an overview of the equivalent rectangular stress block, select active learning methods, and four specific examples used by the authors to introduce the equivalent rectangular stress block in an undergraduate reinforced concrete design course. The first method focuses on understanding the terms associated with the equivalent rectangular stress block using a visual, hands-on learning activity;the second focuses on visualizing the internal forces and couple moment within a beam;the third uses a virtual three-dimensional model to derive the depth of the equivalent rectangular stress block;and the fourth illustrates the various stress blocks used in reinforced concrete flexure theory via physical three-dimensional models. Each description includes detailed instructions to create the resources and how to facilitate the related activities within a course. The overall goal is to provide educators with several examples that will help students better visualize the three-dimensional concept. © 2023 American Concrete Institute. All rights reserved.

Using computer vision techniques for robotic systems made for use in agricultural settings is optimal for identifying plants yielding fruit ready to be harvested. In this study, a system for identifying objects by comparing them to an image with a single shape and measuring the total difference between them is proposed as a base for a larger system that can correctly identify the stage of maturity of tomato fruit growing on a plant based on the difference in size and shape from a base image. This was performed by a program that compares a template image with a basic shape, such as a circle or square, and counts the number of pixels yielded in a generated image that highlights the difference between the template image and another test image. Another idea proposed in this study is a program that counts objects in an image by using a technique that involves splitting an image into a celled grid. This information can be implemented into a robotic system, such as a Turtlebot, to assist in object/crop detection in an agricultural setting.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common chronic disease in the elderly, with a high incidence rate. In recent years, deep learning has become popular in the field of medical image and has achieved great success. It has become the preferred method of analyzing medical images, and it has also attracted a high degree of attention in AD detection. Compared with general machine learning technology, the deep model is more accurate and efficient for AD detection. This paper This paper introduces ad related biomarkers and feature extraction methods, reviews the application of deep learning methods in AD detection, analyzes and summarizes AD detection methods and models. The results show that deep learning technology shows good performance in AD detection. © 2021

Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging algorithms are designed to image stationary scatterers. A moving target is mis-positioned and results in artifacts in reconstructed images. In this paper, we present a novel approach to ground moving target imaging (GMTI) using a single channel SAR data based on atomic norm minimization (ANM) that is capable of localizing targets with sub-resolution cell precision. We use ANM to decompose the received SAR data into the echoes received from each scatterer in the scene, which facilitates processing echoes individually and isolating velocity related phase variations by cross-correlations across the slow-time samples. We use these estimates for motion compensation, and form the SAR image using the dual polynomial of the atomic decomposition. Motion parameters are then numerically estimated without a pre-specified grid. We derive the theoretical requirements on SAR imaging parameters, and detectable velocity limit; and demonstrate the off-grid, sub-resolution cell localization capability of our ANM-based method in SAR-GMTI setting by numerical simulations.

This study extends the previous adaptive inverter control work and introduces an alternative adaptive voltage regulation control strategy that accounts the voltage regulation delays and power priority switch that could have profound positive impacts on the autonomous operations of the inverter-based resources and hence the real-time hosted grid dynamics. This work evaluates the expandability of the overall proposed adaptive inverter frequency and voltage control methodologies under an unbalanced meshed microgrid with fault-induced feeder switching and multiple contingencies in addition to random power output from renewable generators. The extensive favorable simulation results demonstrate that a phase-locked loop based "current-mode controlled" inverter with properly designed controllers can effectively enhance its hosted utility grid strength, improve power system resiliency under dynamic changing operational environments.

The boost operation mode of the LLC converter can be employed to expand its voltage gain range, thereby broadening the potential applications of the LLC converter. However, it is accompanied by a larger turn off loss for half of the synchronize rectifiers (SR) and imbalanced thermal performance associated with different switching loss. To solve this problem, a rotation control of SR to improve thermal was proposed by changing the roles of SRs periodically so that the average device loss can be balanced. The proposed control method was verified on a 30kW LLC converter with 99% peak efficiency. Adaptive update time of updating compare registers for achieving the rotation control was adopted to avoid duty cycle loss during the mode transition based on TI’s TMS320F28388D.

Microgrids are growing at a rapid pace, and as a result, power electronic inverters are more necessary than ever. However, the development of an adaptable inverter based on a changing control objective that also contains grid-related functions is lacking. This paper investigates the development of a novel two-level, four-leg smart inverter for a microgrid that can solve this problem. First, the inverter topology is discussed, modeled, and controlled using a standard dual-loop voltage control. Second, grid-forming functions are investigated. Third, an additional layout and control system are created for the grid-following inverter. Fourth, a simulation is constructed, and the capabilities of the smart inverter are highlighted.

The number of installed remote terminal units (RTU) is on the rise, increasing the observability and control of the power system. RTUs enable sending data to and receiving data from a control center in the power system. A distribution grid control center runs distribution management system (DMS) algorithms, where the DMS takes control actions during transients and outages, such as tripping a circuit breaker and disconnecting a controllable load to increase the resiliency of the grid. Relying on communication-based devices makes the control center vulnerable to cyberattacks, and attackers can send falsified data to the control center to cause disturbances or power outages. Previous work has conducted research on developing ways to detect a cyberattack and ways to mitigate the adverse effects of the attack. This work studies false data injection (FDI) attacks on the DMS algorithm of a fully inverter-based microgrid in real time. The fully inverter-based microgrid is simulated using an RTDS, an amplifier, an electronic load, a server, a network switch, and a router. The DMS is integrated into the server codes and exchanges data with RTDS through TCP/IP protocols. Moreover, a recurrent neural network (RNN) algorithm is used to detect and mitigate the cyberattack. The effectiveness of the detection and mitigation algorithm is tested under various scenarios using the real-time testbed.
