Automatic Speaker Identification (ASI) is so crucial for security. Current ASI systems perform well in quiet and clean surroundings. However, in noisy situations, the robustness of an ASI system against additive noise and interference is a crucial factor. An investigation of the impact of interference on ASI system performance is presented in this paper, which introduces algorithms for achieving high ASI system performance. The objective is to resist the interference of various forms. This paper presents two models for the ASI task in the presence of interference. The first one depends on Normalized Pitch Frequency (NPF) and Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCCs) as extracted features and Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) as a classifier. In this model, we investigate the utilization of a Discrete Transform (DT), such as Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT), Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) and Discrete Sine Transform (DST), to increase the robustness of extracted features against different types of degradation through exploiting the sub-band decomposition characteristics of DWT and the energy compaction property of DCT and DST. This is achieved by extracting features directly from contaminated speech signals in addition to features extracted from discrete transformed signals to create hybrid feature vectors. The enhancement techniques, such as Spectral Subtraction (SS), Winer Filter, and adaptive Wiener filter, are used in a preprocessing stage to eliminate the effect of the interference on the ASI system. In the second model, we investigate the utilization of Deep Learning (DL) based on a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) with speech signal spectrograms and their Radon transforms to increase the robustness of the ASI system against interference effects. The administration of anesthesia is critical for ensuring the safety of surgical procedures, yet it comes with inherent risks associated with medication mistakes. Monitoring EEG signals during anesthesia is crucial for understanding patient physiology;however, the accuracy of this information heavily relies on effectively eliminating noise. Decreasing noise in EEG signals is vital for accurately interpreting data, ultimately enhancing patient safety and refining anesthesia management. This research concentrates on an advanced preprocessing technique for EEG signals, employing segmentation, detrending, variational mode decomposition (VMD), and noise reduction through Gaussian filtering, moving averages, Independent Component Analysis (ICA), and Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT). The study utilized EEG data collected during surgeries and applied these preprocessing approaches to reduce noise and artifacts. Our results indicate that employing the Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) for denoising is robust and produces superior outcomes compared to other techniques investigated, achieving a high Signal-To-Noise Ratio (SNR) of 43.23 dB. © 2025 IEEE.

This letter builds on the previous works of authors, which discuss HVAC disaggregation strategy for aggregated levels without requiring sub-metered information. The integration of solar energy harvesting into small-cell networks is a promising solution for achieving energy-efficient and sustainable wireless communications. However, the inherent variability and intermittency of solar energy, coupled with precise inter-cell interference management, significantly hinder efficient network operation. To resolve these challenges, we propose a multi-agent distributed deep Q-network (MA-DDQN) framework, where the distributed base stations learn the optimal transmit power control policies. To further enhance adaptability under varying solar conditions, we present a daily model transfer with a fine-tuning approach, enabling efficient deployment without extensive training overhead. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed methods remarkably improve energy efficiency while maintaining robust adaptability under dynamic solar conditions, revealing their potential for sustainable small-cell network deployments. © 2014 IEEE.

In post-disaster search and rescue (SAR) missions, it is crucial for robots to distinguish between actual victims and dummy objects, despite their similar characteristics. Edge video analytics have demonstrated exceptional performance in such missions, however, the trade-off between high-performing deep learning models and computational complexity often results in inadequate computational efficiency for SAR robotics. This study tackles this challenge by deploying a deep learning (DL) algorithm, i.e., MobileNet Single Shot Detector (SSD), specifically tailored for embedded systems, to perform object detection and classification tasks on lab-scale SAR robots. The proposed algorithm is developed in Python and implemented on a low-powered edge computing device. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in object localization is highlighted by its mAP score of 0.6247 and an average IoU of 0.9036. Experimental tests using a confusion matrix showed that the model accurately predicted 42 dummy objects and 43 victim dolls. The model achieved an overall accuracy of 89.47%, with a precision of 1.0, a recall of 0.8947, and an F1 Score of 0.9444. Real-time testing confirmed the model’s robust performance, maintaining high accuracy and a stable frame rate of 47 FPS. These findings corroborate the efficacy of the MobileNet SSD algorithm in reliably detecting and differentiating objects within embedded SAR robotic operations. © 2024 IEEE.

The network switches in the data plane of Software Defined Networking (SDN) are empowered by an elementary process, in which enormous number of packets which resemble big volumes of data are classified into specific flows by matching them against a set of dynamic rules. This basic process accelerates the processing of data, so that instead of processing singular packets repeatedly, corresponding actions are performed on corresponding flows of packets. In this paper, first, we address limitations on a typical packet classification algorithm like Tuple Space Search (TSS). Then, we present a set of different scenarios to parallelize it on different parallel processing platforms, including Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), clusters of Central Processing Units (CPUs), and hybrid clusters. Experimental results show that the hybrid cluster provides the best platform for parallelizing packet classification algorithms, which promises the average throughput rate of 4.2 Million packets per second (Mpps). That is, the hybrid cluster produced by the integration of Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA), Message Passing Interface (MPI), and OpenMP programming model could classify 0.24 million packets per second more than the GPU cluster scheme. Such a packet classifier satisfies the required processing speed in the programmable network systems that would be used to communicate big medical data.

Speech is a fundamental means of human interaction. Speaker Identification (SI) plays a crucial role in various applications, such as authentication systems, forensic investigation, and personal voice assistance. However, achieving robust and secure SI in both open and closed environments remains challenging. To address this issue, researchers have explored new techniques that enable computers to better understand and interact with humans. Smart systems leverage Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) to mimic the human brain in identifying speakers. However, speech signals often suffer from interference, leading to signal degradation. The performance of a Speaker Identification System (SIS) is influenced by various environmental factors, such as noise and reverberation in open and closed environments, respectively. This research paper is concerned with the investigation of SI using Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCCs) and polynomial coefficients, with an ANN serving as the classifier. To tackle the challenges posed by environmental interference, we propose a novel approach that depends on symmetric comb filters for modeling. In closed environments, we study the effect of reverberation on speech signals, as it occurs due to multiple reflections. To address this issue, we model the reverberation effect with comb filters. We explore different domains, including time, Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT), Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT), and Discrete Sine Transform (DST) domains for feature extraction to determine the best combination for SI in case of reverberation environments. Simulation results reveal that DWT outperforms other transforms, leading to a recognition rate of 93.75% at a Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) of 15 dB. Additionally, we investigate the concept of cancelable SI to ensure user privacy, while maintaining high recognition rates. This study aimed to develop and evaluate a costeffective Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) system for gait analysis, comparing its performance with the Vicon system and the VideoPose3D algorithm. The system comprises five calibrated sensors and a mobile app to measure lower body orientation during gait and stair climbing. Eight healthy participants were involved in the experiment, each performing ten repetitions to analyze hip and knee flexion angles. The IMU system demonstrated significantly lower mean square error than deep learning-based approaches and comparable results to the Vicon system, indicating its potential for clinical and research applications. © 2023 the author(s), published by Walter de Gruyter Berlin/Boston.
