Artificial visual perception neural system using a solution-processable MoS_(2)-based in-memory light sensor

Optoelectronic devices are advantageous in in-memory light sensing for visual information processing,recognition,and storage in an energy-efficient ***,in-memory light sensors have been proposed to improve the energy,area,and time efficiencies of neuromorphic computing *** study is primarily focused on the development of a single sensing-storage-processing node based on a two-terminal solution-processable MoS2 metal-oxide-semiconductor(MOS)charge-trapping memory structure—the basic structure for charge-coupled devices(CCD)—and showing its suitability for in-memory light sensing and artificial visual *** memory window of the device increased from 2.8 V to more than 6V when the device was irradiated with optical lights of different wavelengths during the program ***,the charge retention capability of the device at a high temperature(100 ℃)was enhanced from 36 to 64%when exposed to a light wavelength of 400 *** larger shift in the threshold voltage with an increasing operating voltage confirmed that more charges were trapped at the Al_(2)O_(3)/MoS_(2) interface and in the MoS_(2) layer.A small convolutional neural network was proposed to measure the optical sensing and electrical programming abilities of the *** array simulation received optical images transmitted using a blue light wavelength and performed inference computation to process and recognize the images with 91%*** study is a significant step toward the development of optoelectronic MOS memory devices for neuromorphic visual perception,adaptive parallel processing networks for in-memory light sensing,and smart CCD cameras with artificial visual perception capabilities.

The article introduces an adaptive threshold detection mechanism aimed at enhancing a decentralized radar inertial odometry (RIO) framework, enabling resilient localization in challenging hostile environments. Considering that frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) radars possess characteristics enabling measurements in challenging indoor and outdoor environments, the fusion of multiple radars in an ensemble configuration, along with an inertial measurement unit (IMU), holds promise in surpassing individual sensor limitations. This approach thereby enhances robust perception. The proposed adaptive autonomous residual threshold mechanism employs a real-time residual analysis to dynamically adjust the sensor fusion process by comparing the variance between two extended Kalman filters. This adaptive approach addresses irregularities in data samples from multiple sensors, thereby enhancing the decentralized smoothing estimator's precision in providing localization while navigating through hostile environments marked by limited visibility, extreme weather, or high interference. Consequently, it contributes to the resilience and adaptability of autonomous systems in real-world scenarios. The proposed framework effectively showcases precise localization through decentralized radar inertial odometry(RIO). © 2024 IEEE.

This paper proposes a novel approach to address the challenges of deploying complex robotic software in large-scale systems, i.e., Centralized Nonlinear Model Predictive Controllers (CNMPCs) for multi-agent systems. The proposed approach is based on a Kubernetes-based scheduling mechanism designed to monitor and optimize the operation of CNMPCs, while addressing the scalability limitation of centralized control schemes. By leveraging a cluster in a real-time cloud environment, the proposed mechanism effectively offloads the computational burden of CNMPCs. Through experiments, we have demonstrated the effectiveness and performance of our system, especially in scenarios where the number of robots is subject to change. Our work contributes to the advancement of cloud-based control strategies and lays the foundation for enhanced performance in cloud-controlled robotic systems. © 2024 IEEE.

MMInstruct: a high-quality multi-modal instruction tuning dataset with extensive diversity

Despite the effectiveness of vision-language supervised fine-tuning in enhancing the performance of vision large language models(VLLMs), existing visual instruction tuning datasets include the following limitations.(1) Instruction annotation quality: despite existing VLLMs exhibiting strong performance,instructions generated by those advanced VLLMs may still suffer from inaccuracies, such as hallucinations.(2) Instructions and image diversity: the limited range of instruction types and the lack of diversity in image data may impact the model's ability to generate diversified and closer to real-world scenarios outputs. To address these challenges, we construct a high-quality, diverse visual instruction tuning dataset MMInstruct,which consists of 973k instructions from 24 domains. There are four instruction types: judgment, multiplechoice, long visual question answering, and short visual question answering. To construct MMInstruct, we propose an instruction generation data engine that leverages GPT-4V, GPT-3.5, and manual correction. Our instruction generation engine enables semi-automatic, low-cost, and multi-domain instruction generation at 1/6 the cost of manual construction. Through extensive experiment validation and ablation experiments,we demonstrate that MMInstruct could significantly improve the performance of VLLMs, e.g., the model fine-tuning on MMInstruct achieves new state-of-the-art performance on 10 out of 12 benchmarks. In today's advanced technological age, characterized by innovations like big data processing, cloud computing, and the Internet of Things (IoT), there is a rising utilization of medical multimedia data, especially medical images. These images, integral to the Internet of Healthcare Things (IoHT), necessitate secure transmission due to the increasing risks of unauthorized breaches and tampering. Current security methods, especially for cloud and mobile platforms, often struggle with challenges related to processing capacity, memory use, data size, and energy, making them ill-suited for extensive medical data or resource-limited environments. To address these challenges, this study introduces a novel hybrid cryptosystem, drawing on the unique qualities of the optical Arnold chaotic map, DNA (DeoxyriboNucleic Acid) sequences, and Mandelbrot keys, providing a fortified approach to the secure streaming of medical images. The proposed framework operates via a precise and structured procedure. It begins by applying the optical Arnold chaotic map cipher to each of the three-color channels (R, G, and B) within a medical image. This is followed by overlaying DNA encoding sequences on the resultant encrypted image from the earlier ciphering phase. Leveraging this groundwork, we incorporate an advanced Mandelbrot set-driven shift mechanism specifically designed to create complex confusion patterns within the R, G, and B segments of the encrypted medical imagery. The efficacy of the proposed cryptosystem is rigorously substantiated through an extensive array of simulations supported by a comprehensive security analysis. The results highlight its unparalleled resilience and security capabilities in the realm of medical image encryption, marking a significant leap over previous systems in the literature. Forecasting Electricity Demand in Greece: A Functional Data Approach in High Dimensional Hourly Time Series

This paper presents a novel approach to forecasting electricity demand in Greece by employing functional data analysis to analyze power consumption. Unlike traditional methods that predict a single future point, this approach forecasts a curve representing daily power consumption. This functional object enables electricity providers to better tailor their pricing and supply strategies in the upcoming day's megawatt hours (MWh) market. To achieve this, the ARIMA algorithm supplemented by functional principal components is utilized for one-step-ahead forecasting. The analysis also incorporates a functional regression using a functional linear model for functional responses, identifying patterns that link one day's consumption to the preceding day. The results demonstrate that the FDA-based method enhances the accuracy of short-term demand forecasts, outperforming classical time series algorithms and neural networks. By providing a more dynamic and comprehensive model of electricity demand, this approach offers significant implications for energy policy and management practices. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

A survey on cross-user federated recommendation

Recommender systems are effective in mitigating information overload, yet the centralized storage of user data raises significant privacy concerns. Cross-user federated recommendation(CUFR) provides a promising distributed paradigm to address these concerns by enabling privacy-preserving recommendations directly on user devices. In this survey, we review and categorize current progress in CUFR, focusing on four key aspects: privacy, security, accuracy, and efficiency. Firstly,we conduct an in-depth privacy analysis, discuss various cases of privacy leakage, and then review recent methods for privacy protection. Secondly, we analyze security concerns and review recent methods for untargeted and targeted *** untargeted attack methods, we categorize them into data poisoning attack methods and parameter poisoning attack methods. For targeted attack methods, we categorize them into user-based methods and item-based methods. Thirdly,we provide an overview of the federated variants of some representative methods, and then review the recent methods for improving accuracy from two categories: data heterogeneity and high-order information. Fourthly, we review recent methods for improving training efficiency from two categories: client sampling and model compression. Finally, we conclude this survey and explore some potential future research topics in CUFR.

Question Selection for Multi-Modal Code Search Synthesis using Probabilistic Version Spaces

Searching the occurrences of specific code patterns (code search) is a common task in software engineering, and programming by example (PBE) techniques have been applied to ease customizing code patterns. However, previous PBE tools only synthesize programs meeting the input-output examples, which may not always align with the user intent. To bridge this gap, this paper proposes Excalibur, a multi-modal (example and natural language description) and interactive synthesizer for code search. Excalibur ensures that the generated programs are correct for the provided examples (soundness) and include the user-intended program (bounded completeness). Furthermore, Excalibur helps the user identify the user-intended program through question-answer interaction. To minimize the required interaction efforts, question selection is crucial. To improve question selection for code search, we propose probabilistic version spaces (ProbVS), in which the user-intended program’s probability is high and others are low. ProbVS combines traditional version spaces for compactly representing extensive programs and large language models (on the user-provided natural language description) for adjusting programs’ probabilities to align with users’ intents. Extensive experiments on a benchmark of 44 tasks demonstrated the effectiveness of Excalibur and ProbVS and demystified how ProbVS affects probability distributions and how the configurable parameters affect ProbVS. © 1976-2012 IEEE.

Price prediction is one of the examples related to forecasting tasks and is a project based on data science. Price prediction analyzes data and predicts the cost of new products. The goal of this research is to achieve an arrangement to predict the price of a cellphone based on its specifications. So, five deep learning models are proposed to predict the price range of a cellphone, one unimodal and four multimodal approaches. The multimodal methods predict the prices based on the graphical and non-graphical features of cellphones that have an important effect on their valorizations. Also, to evaluate the efficiency of the proposed methods, a cellphone dataset has been gathered from GSMArena. The experimental results show 88.3% F1-score, which confirms that multimodal learning leads to more accurate predictions than state-of-the-art techniques. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

This article presents a nonlinear dynamic inversion-based motion plan for a levitating robotic satellite emulation platform. The frictionless motion of such a levitating platform has dynamic equivalency with a satellite’s realistic movement in space, thus evolving as an efficient demonstration tool as a hardware-in-loop satellite motion simulator. A brief design description of the emulation platform unified with various sensor and actuator units is presented, and an associated nonlinear mathematical model representing its coupled dynamic motion is described. The proposed control design architecture manipulates the associated nonlinear dynamics, which appear due to the coupling of translational and rotational movement of the robotic platform, thereby establishing an efficient trajectory tracking capability for various operating regions without the additional requirement of gain scheduling. In order to realize the control requirement through a set of ON-OFF thruster-based actuation units, which closely resembles the reaction control system of realistic satellite design, an optimal thrust allocation logic is proposed that accounts for various physical limitations of thrusters such as thrusters as its magnitude constraint and minimum on time. The efficacy of the proposed modelling and control scheme is experimentally validated in different realistic motion planning scenarios, such as point-to-point manoeuvres with terminal objectives and a superior path-following capability.
