The trend in renewable energy calls for safe peer-to-peer(P2P)energy trading in a microgrid. Blockchain technology (BCT) addresses this by providing a secure, tamper-proof ledger that enables transparent and sustainable energy exchange. This paper explores how smart contracts can make energy trading more efficient for microgrid users while securely recording all transactions for easy verification. The architecture designed for these smart contracts ensures reliable mechanisms such as simultaneous submission of bids, user registration, order placement and sorting, and automatic execution of the trading system. The proposed smart contract-based energy trading system improves energy efficiency and flexibility while supporting decentralized control within the microgrid. BCT directly contributes to the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) by promoting this technology, increasing renewable energy in the global energy mix, and improving energy efficiency. Furthermore, BCT supports SDG 9 by creating a resilient and sustainable infrastructure through technological innovation. This paper provides a detailed analysis of the P2P trading scenario, smart contract pseudocode, and visualization of the smart contract implementation in Solidity, aiming to navigate the real-world application of P2P energy markets. © 2024 IEEE.

Gas leaks and fires present dangers that require detection and decisive action to protect lives and property. This paper specifically proposes cutting-edge sensor technologies with intelligent threshold algorithms and real-time communication capabilities to enhance the safety and well-being of industrial workers by reducing the risk of accidents and injuries, which addresses Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3 (good health and well-being). It includes MQ5 and MQ135 gas sensors, a DHT11 temperature sensor, and an IR flame sensor to provide monitoring. The real-time data from the gas sensors is carefully analyzed to trigger alerts at two threshold levels directly linked to gas concentrations, ensuring warnings in case of any risks. If the second threshold is exceeded, indicating the presence of gas, the device activates a safety protocol. An exhaust fan swiftly dissipates any accumulated gas, while a servo motor promptly shuts off the gas supply, effectively preventing any escalation of the situation. An integrated Wi-Fi module will enable communication and notifications through a dedicated smartphone app or web interface to enhance functionality, which enables remote device control and real-time access to sensor data for users. This combination of sensor technologies, intelligent algorithms, and remote accessibility showcases how technology-driven solutions can significantly enhance safety measures. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

This study presents a novel solution in the form of a solar-powered water trash collector, designed specifically for deployment in backwaters and smaller water bodies, to address the critical issues of water pollution and waste management. Focusing on the challenges faced by national rivers, including hazardous polymers, plastic waste, and decaying organic matter, the collector operates under IoT-enabled Bluetooth control using mobile application, incorporating a conveyor belt mechanism for efficient waste collection, particularly targeting prevalent plastic debris in freshwater environments. A notable feature of this solution is its integration of solar power, ensuring self-sustained operation and reduced environmental impact, aligning with the imperative for eco-friendly waste management technologies. Bluetooth control enhances adaptability for smaller water bodies, crucial for precise navigation. The core objective is to provide an effective solar-powered water trash collector tailored for backwaters, addressing the escalating waste production due to population growth. Additionally, a comprehensive waste management approach is proposed, facilitated by an Android application for seamless navigation of integrated trash bins. Lung cancer, a malignant tumour originating in the lung cells, is notoriously challenging to detect early through conventional clinical procedures, which often require invasive techniques. This study introduces LungCanary, an innovative approach leveraging machine learning algorithms to address the global health challenge of early lung cancer detection. By employing advanced computational methods and utilizing transfer learning principles, LungCanary effectively extracts meaningful features from medical imaging data. The model incorporates multiple decision-making components to capture diverse data patterns, significantly enhancing diagnostic precision. Through rigorous experimentation, LungCanary demonstrated superior performance with an accuracy of 98.36%, a precision of 96%, and an error rate of just 1.64%. These findings highlight LungCanary's potential to outperform existing models, marking a breakthrough in the accuracy and reliability of lung cancer diagnostics. The significance of this research lies in its potential to revolutionize early detection methodologies, ultimately improving patient outcomes. © 2024 IEEE.

Movable Superdirective Pairs: A Phase Shifter-Free Approach to mmWave Communications

In this letter, we propose a novel Movable Superdirective Pairs (MSP) approach that combines movable antennas with superdirective pair arrays to enhance millimeter-wave (mmWave) communications. By controlling the rotation angles and positions of superdirective antenna pairs via low-power actuators on the user side, the proposed MSP approach maximizes the received signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of multipath signals without the need for phase shifters, thereby reducing hardware costs and insertion losses. An efficient algorithm based on alternating optimization and gradient projection is developed to solve the non-convex rotation–position design problem. Moreover, MSP is shown to be robust in both line-of-sight (LOS) and non-line-ofsight (NLOS) channels. Simulation results demonstrate that MSP achieves significant performance gains over fixed-position arrays, while maintaining low system complexity. © 2012 IEEE.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have been conceived as an available solution to substitute terrestrial base stations (TBSs) to provide downloading services for user equipment (i.e. mobile devices) that have difficulty communicating directly with TBSs. However, the mobility of user equipment (UE) and the random nature of the number of UE will cause several challenges including 1) the hardness of determining optimal user association and UAV resource (i.e., bandwidth and transmit power) allocation decision, 2) the burden of network function maintenance owing to the necessity of shutting down the entire system. Therefore, in this article, joint user association and resource allocation are designed for a software-defined network (SDN)-adopted leaderless softwarized UAV network, where each UAV is regarded as a flying SDN controller to enhance the control ability of the considered network. The purpose is to maximize energy efficiency (EE) with satisfying the quality of service (QoS). To this end, a joint method based on hierarchical agglomerative clustering (HAGC) and multi-agent deep deterministic policy gradient (MADDPG) is proposed. Specifically, the HAGC approach is utilized to determine the optimal MDs association with UAVs. Afterward, MADDPG approach is leveraged to obtain the best policy for resource allocation, aiming to achieve the maximum EE. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is confirmed by the evaluation results. © 2023 IEEE.

Application fingerprinting is a technique broadly utilized in diverse fields such as cybersecurity, network management, and software development. We discover that the mechanical vibrations of cooling fans for both the CPU and power supply unit (PSU) in a system strongly correlate with the computational activities of running applications. In this study, we measure such vibrations with the help of mmWave sensing and design a new application fingerprinting approach named mmFingerprint. We create a prototype of mmFingerprint and demonstrate its effectiveness in distinguishing between various applications. To showcase the use of mmFingerprint in cybersecurity for defensive purposes, we deploy it in a real computer system to detect the execution of reputable Rowhammer attack tools like TRRespass and Blacksmith. We find that the detection can reach a very high accuracy in practical scenarios. Specifically, the accuracy is 89% when exploiting CPU fan vibrations and nearly 100% when leveraging PSU fan vibrations. © ICST Institute for computer sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications engineering 2024.

Diffusion models benefit from instillation of task-specific information into the score function to steer the sample generation towards desired properties. Such information is coined as guidance. For example, in text-to-image synthesis, text input is encoded as guidance to generate semantically aligned images. Proper guidance inputs are closely tied to the performance of diffusion models. A common observation is that strong guidance promotes a tight alignment to the task-specific information, while reducing the diversity of the generated samples. In this paper, we provide the first theoretical study towards understanding the influence of guidance on diffusion models in the context of Gaussian mixture models. Under mild conditions, we prove that incorporating diffusion guidance not only boosts classification confidence but also diminishes distribution diversity, leading to a reduction in the differential entropy of the output distribution. Our analysis covers the widely adopted sampling schemes including those based on the SDE and ODE reverse processes, and leverages comparison inequalities for differential equations as well as the Fokker-Planck equation that characterizes the evolution of probability density function, which may be of independent theoretical interest.
